2005-2006 were the peak years for technology in Formula 1 with custom tires, traction control, and high downforce. Look how much more stable the cars are compared to today. Not to mention how much prettier they are!
I don't understand why people take such a strong dislike to Tilke. The FIA is the one that tells his which track to modify, and how to modify it. So blame the FIA, not Tilke
@18PacWest Hopefully, after the amount of traffic during the knockout sessions it's insane no to include single lap qualifying. They probably done this to save fuel or tyres or something.
@Claymore2408 this is fp3 - Friday practice 3. qualifying was the same in 2005 though you did 2 laps 1 on saturday and one on sunday before GP. the totals were added together
One of the most technical track around, just love it. Other one is San Marino Imola track, also very hard track and I would love it if they get it back to f1 calendar.
its a shame sato didnt have a lot of success in that car but you could see it wasnt very fast. at 1:21 it says hes done 290kmh-180mph. Most of the other cars in the field would be going a lot faster at that point
V10 power of the STR Cosworth engines! Too bad they kept it at 18,000 rpm, they should have put it at 19,000 rpm while the V8 should have 21,000 rpm. That'll be faster, but less reliable.
i cant recall the season when drivers were only allowed 1 warm up lap, and 1 qualifying lap (no q1 q2 or q3) one shot showdown as some commentators said...
1 qualifying lap was in 2003 to 2005, one warm up lap i think was in 2003 or so? Not sure about the warm up lap, but in 2003 to 2004 they had 1 session in which you try 3 laps: Warm up, Flying lap, cool down lap. In 2005 there are 2 sessions: Saturday and sunday qualifying, which is also 3 laps each. The times from both sessions are added together and the driver with the least time gets pole position. Since the last driver to take to the track on saturday qualifying will get the best rubber on..
A fractured skull is not something you just shake off, he had massive head trauma. Massa will likely be out for the rest of the season. Schumacher has been looking for a way back into a car and now he has the opportunity, it has been confirmed that he will take the seat so long as he passes some health exams.
I'm not saying he isn't, he managed two championships before Ferrari. But what I said before still stands, Ralf's line was better and Schumi's car was faster.
Fuji speedway really sucks! It´s just another of those boring tilke products. Suzuka is much more challenging and interesting circuit. Can´t wait for this year race!
Agreed, should have some fast times this year too, by that time in the season the cars should be much better and the addition of slicks will make the first few turns really fast.
Fuji has no challenge. Just some slow corners, it's to wide. Suzuka is a very good example for a good F1 track. Narrow, fast and slow corners, difficult braking.
not a scott speed fan, but i personally think there should be at least one american in F1... it's just sad and a shame that the united states is glued to nascar...
That's the sad truth about it. The USA can't contribute one human being into the F1. The F1 doesn't really welcome American drivers very well since maybe Mario Andretti some 30 years ago.
Marco was supposedly going to be in F1 but obviously that was a bit of a wishful thinking there. He wouldn't last.
Napcar. To be honest, they really do have the commercial time, advertising money, it's gotten bigger than it really is. Such a damn prehistoric sport.
People keep saying that they want F1 back at Brands Hatch but I've driven there and the Barriers are way too close to the track for that kind of motorsport now. Brands Hatch would have to be completely redesigned to accomodate F1 but no one seems to think of that.
Yep was one of my favourite too... It's was a true masters track, depended mostly on drivers skills.... Fuji is just another track where car means a lot.
Agree about Suzuka. I seem to remember Fuji from an old PC game (GP2 or maybe something earlier) as a glorified bike track. Apparently Tilke has been involved in revamping the track...hopefully a good sign.
I love f1, best drivers in the world along with rally drivers. very entertaining to watch, even though Sato isn't one of the better drivers, there is not such a thing as a "bad" driver in f1.
yeah i'd like to know too... hopefully they do, i don't want to see suzuka go forever...although i'm really excited to see how they'll do on the fuji...
Suzuka is one of the most technical and challenging tracks out there, especially in F1 Championship Edition

It is one of the greatest tracks in the calendar, next to Spa-Francorhamp .
