  • Only a 3 month old bmw would have it's cooling fan fail...by the way, THAT'S CHEATING!

  • How does it work? The cam lost few times the markers :-(

  • Great! it's really nice like a terminator ;)

  • Wow very cool stuff! Could you imagine having these everywhere, for everything? AR really is the future. Amazing video!

  • как вы считаете, мой BMW M5 видео?

  • So much for being certified for something....its like reading and instruction manual.

  • Nice snapshot of the near future in service repair.

As for the vast amount of negative comments, all I can say is wow, what a bunch of luddites. (sarcasm)Yes, let's hold back innovation so that we can all keep our jobs. That's the ticket!(/sarcasm)

  • i used this glases to drive, idont own a drive lincences

  • My vision is augmented.

  • It may look cool, but it defeats the whole purpose of having to go to a trade school and specializing as a mechanic with a full SAE rating when anyone off the street can put these on and do what you spent a whole year + learning to do.

  • If this is released to the public... the aftermarket industry is going down and the economy will tank because all the mechanics will go out of business once these are affordable.

  • the future is going to be lame

  • THIS IS FOR RETARDS

  • I've tried the prototype once a couple of years ago. It's for real, and it works.

But as some people already said, trained technicians don't need that to do their work.

Futhermore this device will be used at guarantee works to check if every step of a procedure is correctly accomplished by the technicians (the guarantee regulations are very strict right now).

  • Lol this is for stupid asses

  • Comment removed

  • There are actually two push lock plastic rivets in the tabs on the side of that intake.

  • I would hope any mechanic working at a dealership would know what to do and not need a device like this

  • @kahunanekojin not even this is so cool. i only wish i had something like this when i was working as a mechanic; its alot of pressure to fix other peoples cars, FAST. They want you to cut corners to get it out the door. this thing tells you where the fasteners are? what size? and it records what you do? the less junk you have to figure out the better. it didnt give torque specs. try changing an alternator on one of these; the cyborg thing aint so bad now is it?

  • arkhipone.narod2.ru/bmw_m6_foto/ - bmw m6 фото

  • Is this for real??

  • I'll be more impressed when it can diagnose a problem.

  • it looks it could be useful for doing it yourself, but mechanics are trained to do it without it :)

  • But will it Blend?

  • @HoosierBuddy002 gesh corni..

  • lol

  • Looks like a first-pass trailer for "The Matrix".

  • proper AR

  • mp3 glasses

  • that would be awesome

  • Obviously they don't have a working prototype...what are the odds that the simulation would have the exact same screw driver as the "actor?"

  • The colling fluid then. How stupid are they at bmw.

  • @mrt5r What's colling fluid ?

  • Or you can just google / youtube it.

  • Mechanic Norman Jayden

  • unzip pants

  • lol malfuntion in goggles and you destroy car.....

  • This is true???

  • Hahahahahahaaaahhaa

  • cool now every idiot will be able to do repairs :D

  • Coracao jeff briges

  • Gee thanks glasses. Now the mechanic doesn't have to actually know anything.

  • You CAN pull a leg with those glasses, imagine doing this on your drunk friends cars.

  • what means? everyone can be a mechanic? LOL

  • adamlar aşmış abicim

  • It would be better to spend time making the car tool-less - All car designers should have to strip cars and reassemble

  • Computer: remove bolt, You: its stuck, computer: remove bolt, You: it stripped, computer: remove bolt, You: cant reach it, computer: remove bolt using special tool x3421B, You: whaaaaaa?

  • SHOULD BE SOMETHING SHORTER THAN ''NEXT STEP ''

    SHORT whistle WOULD BE BETTER

  • Remove everything :)))

  • Its only a matter of time before we have augmented reality beer goggles!

  • @daemonpoet

Really your calling me a"moron" cause of a spelling error? GFY buddy!

I could do that job with my eyes closed!

  • you need to be a moron for thous glasses

  • @bigA2tall "thous"? Guess we can identify one moron who'll need "thous" glasses.

  • His smile on the end - priceless :)

Repairs without mistake, I want to have those glasses :)

    That is the future.

  • Cool idea, but seems like it would be rather distracting with the repeating animations. Definitely a concept worth pursuing to see where its potential leads though.

  • Hey those look just like the Oakleys you can buy at any Oakley dealer!!...oh, wait...they are -.-

  • bulshit this is never going to happen

  • @pekar5 never know, there was fully functional AR Doom and AR Quake years ago on certain campuses, and there's a few AR games popping up on AndroidOS.

The technology is here, just a matter of finding people interested in a given application for it.

  • What if the bleeping screws are rusted in? Then what will the smart-alecky glasses tell you to do?

  • whata car...

  • I'll take a few for my LAN party...

  • i already saw this 8 years ago in a research center of siemens... its so old fashioned!

  • Start car....Get jumper cables..... attack negative and positive cables to battery.... attach opposite jumper cables to tounge and gooch then wait.... if problem still occurs have a friend rev engine just below red line, be sure to engage parking brake and pedal brake for... if problem still occurs replace your battery and alternator with larger more powerful models and repeat steps....

  • Now this shows the power of augmented reality.

  • questo sistema e' uscito??? ,no', perche' vorrei fare un regalo a quei pecoroni della mia ex concessionaria di "fiducia"

  • is it real?

  • This is going to destroy the whole mechanic industries...

  • Why not just get the computer to do it? :p

  • @Nicoenzz robotic hands are really expensive and still can't do everything that human hands can

  • great for those that just jacked a nice bmw and now have to dismantle in a hurry, saves time and damage to those parts needing to be sold back to the owner getting it put back together

  • i dont need no fancy goggles , gimme a toolbox and i`ll fix it.

  • I wish they would make AR Arc Flash and Shock Hazard Labels (70E Standard) that would display things like PPE, boundaries and maybe even flash potential of equipment when viewed through a smart phone.

  • mój staruszek tak robi tylko bez okularków.... i napewno robi to lepiej...

  • I work at a BMW shop, I hope this never comes out because I will go crazy at work with everyone saying "next step" all the time. Besides I fix bmw's just fine without those.

  • Does it work on women?

  • @leopower7 OH HELL YEAH, now that would be KICKASS.

  • @leopower7 Haha fantastic reply xD

  • @leopower7 LOL

  • if this shit goname make me say those stuff i say fuck you

  • How can I release a screw if I cant see where it is because it's hidden under some animation?

  • @jetzaber - There would probably be some way to turn the animation off, if not, just take the glasses off.

TBH - I don't like this. Another way to get rid of some greatly NEEDED jobs...

  • omfg this is soooooooooo kool

  • wow, this is so awsome technology, i see that in the future you can use glasses with instruction to do all kind of thinks, like cook, repair something, create things even build a house, maybe could be use by doctors to do medical sirguries,

    this is really exciting

  • brillient so anyone could work on there own BMW or car :D of course they just have to buy those probably million+ doller glasses lol

  • @Ardrius51SCFR

Yeah, you just need to buy the $4,000 dollars worth of tools that you will need to work on your car, and risk the chance of voiding your new vehicle warranty.

  • this is just to replace parts not to find the problem the good old mechanics will be always need it ,i rather do it myself than let someone else do it xD

  • cool technology

  • this isn't augmented reality

it is a cheap video animation with over-layering showing how it would be like

augmented reality should trace the object and have a base to recognize where the target should be

  • Fucking sucks... you don't need any skills to fix your car now .. :(

Where are the good old mechanics all dirty in oil saying "i got it, i got it i'll just touch here and there and your car will be ready to hit the road in a minute"

  • @shigalbigal believe me not fake and it traces his position

  • @semphony100

well yes, I know it isn't fake, but I like the old way of fixing your car, when you're all in oil and dirt from just changing your radiator fan lol

  • Install a new fan just because the old one wasn't plugged in?

  • yaaaaa righttt. this is fake

  • cool example of ar aplication... this plus Natal equal an amazing future. especialy for robatics and space travel... I'm glad that i'm young and will wet to witness all this...

  • @CrimsonCoastie just that tool case costs 3 thousand dollars

  • @CrimsonCoastie I think a mechanic can still do this faster than you with the help of the glasses. This glasses can prlly teach you how to control a helicopter(Does that reminds you of the Matrix? OMG!).

  • response to the last comment: yeah the glasses will be affordable but do you really think BMW would make the server based software readily available. We are currently developing augmented reality at our offices at touchthesun co uk. . . its really cool stuff, loads of applications for it!

  • that would be pretty insane! i just recently bought a bmw and plan to do alot of projects on it. this would com ein handy (:

  • Reminds me of Ironman's heads-up-display.

  • Fucking fantastic idea. Glad I'll be the proud owner of a '97 320i.

  • humans telling the computer/robot what to do,

    "Next step"

    computers/robots bossing humans around...

  • OMG!!, that is so awesome!!...hopefolly this product passes prototype status

  • In Germany, how much would a brand new BMw M3 cost? I am wondering if its a little pricey in the US because its an import

  • @DukeBlueDevils055 in Slovenia new M3 is 60k€ to 70k€. depends on accessories.

  • omfg this is a nice idea but a lot of work

  • That is sick, how much they cost?

  • it's a fake!

  • @zacagno My phone has Augmented Reality, not fake bro.

  • I like how the mechanic wears sun glasses indoors. Surely, the display can be made less.. black.

  • fake. software ready but not the hardware part.

  • rust error

  • Nice fake video. Cant believe how many people fell for it...

  • @cunhacaldeira I'm not sure if the video is fake or not, but I have read from multiple places that BMW is in fact experimenting with augmented reality through LCD equipped glasses for this exact purpose.

  • @cunhacaldeira naw.....but they actually have this technology for real....wonder if you even knew that b4 i told u...

  • Whats the fun in repairing cars? who ever made those glasses is a dumb ass hole. Im going to make him/her a new life so he/she can stop using his/hers.

  • 1:15

  • With this kind of technology we can get any 'hands on' job we like and not have to be qualified! If man screws up it is computer's fault. We'd no longer get fired either! Cool!

  • Bet the mechanics are pissed about this one lol

  • Just goes to show BMW mechanics can't think for themselves.

  • While this is fairly cool it will definately separate the boys from the men, when it comes to putting your money where your mouth is, in car mechanics. I hope mechanics do not become dependent on tools like that because it seems like at a certain point their true skill level would drop to that of a backyard mechanic. That is just my opinion I would rather problem solve and learn the hard way that way I would never forget it.

  • I also wear my gascan shades when I work on my BMW!

  • That shit only seemed real fucking annoying!

  • 感心するばかり。これは便利だ。

  • is that really true????

  • Ofcourse not! It's only in the beginning stages. Give it another 10-15 years.

This is with that documentary i saw with touchscreen phones in 2000. And we all said: "Pffft! It'll take another ten years before we see those!".

And those glasses... they were also on that docu. And they're yet to come around!

  • good

  • If it removes the need for mechanics so be it.

If it doesn't, and it only helps, fine.

That's humanity's intellectual evolution.. People who would be mechanics will go to a similar field instead. We'll utilise our work force better. We'll be more efficient either way.

(as long as people don't stop thinking and start letting the machine think for them, but a mechanic would only bother with these goggles the first couple of time he does that type of procedure)

  • @mooman lol man

  • waw incroyable

  • quality cars that needs a new fan :D

  • Conclusion: In the future everyone can repair their own car?

    We don't need mechanics anymore!

  • @blocbonbon

i worked for a multibrand analyzer and i think that there will be a copyright problem. I suppose that in the near future this tecnology will be available only for authorized mechanics.

  • @blocbonbon seriously u think its simple as that?first we already have those kind of tool except its on paper they tell you what to do (mitchells, all data) ... people still send their car to mechanics.. secondly, even if u have those glasses, will u buy a pair of glasses that cost 20 000$ ? they will be useless since u need another 20 000 for tools, third: those glass doesnt help u from finding a problem, u still need experience to do find rough idle, no start no crank ect, ...................

  • @blocbonbon (part2) and for the code reading ?? u will need another 5 000$ to buy the scanner, and time ? do you have time and place to do big job like removing transmission or engine... u will need a lift add another 15 000$ so dont hope to much.... its not tomorrow the day that u will not longer need mechanics sorry to break ur kind of bubble and fourth like i said Mrs anybody dont have the experience to deal with certain situation, remove a fan and change engine internal are different thing!

  • @blocbonbon And how we will be able to know what's going wrong in the engine? lol, there you can do nothing ;)

  • @blocbonbon This is to help the technician, of course the data displayed in the glasses are transmitted to it from BMW data base which requires access, through a WLAN network in the repair shop

  • @blocbonbon: If the only thing mechanics can do, would be following colored pictures -no matter if per augmented-realitv-glasses or book- we even wouldn't need them today

  • @blocbonbon No more corrupt mechanics.

  • @blocbonbon

    - blondy is hearing. - remove spring and shock absorber

    - ok , next step

  • @blocbonbon

Cars of the near future 2020s will be modular in that if you have a problem the whole drive system (engine) will be removed in a few minutes and replaced with a new one.

And the old one will be sent back to the factory for recycling.

If you have a front accident the whole front section will be disconnected and replace with a new section.

There will be no small back mechanics. It will be technicians carrying out modifications.

All cars will be on an intelligent network.

  • @bighands69 @bighands69 just how insanely expensive are you wanting car maintenance to be? Having to REPLACE AN ENTIRE ENGINE instead of just replace a few parts? Having to REPLACE HALF OF THE CAR rather than just fix a few body parts?? I would much rather keep an older vehicle instead. That way if I get a good-sized dent or two on the front of my vehicle, it'll cost about $800 to fix, instead of the $5,000 - $8,000 REPLACING the entire front of the car like you say.

  • @blocbonbon and who is going to have a car when nobody have a job because all the work is done by machines?

  • It helps people with no automotive training do basic maintenance on cars which have not been modified or damaged. It does not replace a trained mechanic who can work with modded cars and be flexible enough to recognise and repair damage.

  • Peal Bananan, Next step, Eat it. next step. Dont eat humans. ZOMBIE WIN

  • Wunderbar hahaha.

  • AND SO IS THE TRANSFORMATION OF MAN INTO A BLOODY TRAINED MONKEY

NEXT STEP, 'duh', NEXT STEP, 'duuuh'

  • hey, can i get a job as a technician at bmw with this glasses, i am not a mechanic, but i am a good instruction follower.

  • LOL

Who is sucn an idiot that he does not know how to use screwdriver n' stuff....

big help my ass normal guy coud set apart whole car whitout this fakin glasses. Bunch bullshits.......

  • Hahah, right! :)

  • @Aleksej79ns

    Well it's not nuclear science.

it's pretty much simple task, for hardest taks this glases couldnot help.

  • You are right. Although most of the money you spend on your vehicle and house are general maintenance. The glasses will work with everything from fixing your car to building a pc. From cooking recipes, to building a model car.

  • It shows the screwdriver to show the user where the screw holes are. There is time wasted trying to find screw holes. Now the mechanic does not need a book showing him where stuff is on an unfamiliar vehicle. This can also be great to teach school age students Auto shop classes. There are millions of uses

  • @mahony007 But i don´t think this will be able to replace regular knowledge and learning. Also, this technology won´t ever be entirely problem free. In some cases it might mistake one vehicle for another, who knows? Point is, this is revolutionary, but not that revolutionary. When technology completely replaces the need for learning, then we have a technological revolution

  • tendra un progama para tocarme la polla!!!!!!

  • this is cool i would be happy to have something like this....but as allways BMW tend to sell very expencive stuff , so i gues this would cost like 3000$ if not more ,its like i wnt to the BMW dealer and they had a BMW hat for 30 euro ! are they insane 30 euro for a hat !!! so i dont think this handy think would be cheap , rather insanely expencive

  • scribd (dot) com/nb812

  • Wipe ass?

  • Who cares about this application...imagine when the glasses are sold with a cartridge slot (or maybe a wifi connection) and you can see how to make lemon marangue pie, install a garbage disposal, perform open heart surgery on your cat...

  • these glasses are for an idiot that doesn't know how to tie his own shoes. If you don't know shit on what you are doing and just duplicating what the instructions say then maybe you shouldn't be working on a car at all. What if a bolt brakes will that POS tell you what to do? Or will you call a real mechanic?

  • @labedra yeah this is what veteran drivers say about GPS today... while others find them indispensable.. :-)

  • yeah and pay 1000 $ to fix something ...i dont think so , i rather have the gasses

  • really cool except what i think about this technology is that. what if the consumer wants a upgrade to their car. how would that new component be compatible with augmented reality glasses

  • @socktrooper....

well of course you would get a manual that came with your new upgrade part to upload to the glasses.

  • I could see this as being used as an aid or educational tool. But if you fix cars for a job you should already know this. I guess this could be good for home use by non-professionals where you can download a how to or a cd that comes with a product that helps you learn how to use something or put something together.

  • And yet, we use simple tools like calculators and computer programs to voluntarily augment our cognitive abilities. You can think of the human like a robot if you want, akithered, but I think of him as human 2.0

  • This poor guy seems to be just a little bit more than a robot. If the computer give instructions, then humans are useless.

  • not necessarily, humans are very deft and mobile. Some modern jobs are very complex or hard to learn. This would be an excellent training tool. Think of all the goods we could produce with a workforce that didnt have to think for itself!!!

(people dont think for themselves anyways lol, might as well take advantage of the situation :)

  • I'm not saying this isn't useful :) And of course has advantages! Actually such tools could just help in spatial analysis, while the human still manage the knowledge. But I still find this so sad... It's just a step away from replacing the guy. (Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.)

  • @akithered I think you understand now; replacing him *is* a good thing; the more jobs that are taken by machines, the less humans have to do. Eventually, humans won't be responsible for any mundane tasks.

  • The implications are so many and so complex that saying *now* about what *is* good a good thing is probably a nonsense. Actually, you can *think* and *hope* that having machines doing human's work is a good thing (and I hope this, too), but you can't actually say that IT IS a good thing. You can't see the future, I guess... Working is a fundamental and underestimated subject, you shouldn't take it so lightly. (By the way, I'm almost of your same opinion, but I'm really really careful ;)

  • @akithered You're not intelligent. Read coastermonger's comment.

  • I think you didn't even understand what I said.
