  • I think it's funny how much propaganda we created during World War Two and the Cold War to support the war effort. Gotta love it when Donald Says he loves the USA!

  • Why the hell does that big one look like Patton?

  • @FalleNxMarin3bjs You think the greatest ruler to ever live was the man who killed over 9million peoples for nothig? The man who started 2nd WW? The man who was mad of power? Your freak...

  • @FalleNxMarin3bjs go burn in hell

  • Be careful what you say, not all Nazis were racist all men who could fight that lived in Germany were drafted.

  • @therockguitarist96

haha bitch please. Most of em did it willingly and knowingly, being damn sure that was the right thing to do. Only after they lost they hid their tails between their legs like fuckin cowards and started saying bshit bout themselves being victims. That's a lie, and you know that

  • @Serun He probably meant the wehrmacht and if he did he is right.

  • @yaddar I sure did! ;)

  • i dont think its offensive, it made fun of nazis and at the same time taught kids that not all germans were evil or wanted to support hitler.

  • Disney might have said this was anti Nazi propoganda but what it actually does is depicts the Nazis as bumbleheaded idiots and softens you up towards them

  • MOST PEOPLE THAT COME AGAINST THIS SHORT ANIMATED FILM ARE BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT WATCHED THE W-H-O-L-E FILM...KEEP IN MIND, DONALD IS HAVING A DREAM, AND YOU DON'T REALIZE IT IS A DREAM UNTIL THE VERY END. HE'S ACTUALLY A UNITED STATES CITIZEN, HUGS A FIGURINE OF THE STATUE OF LIBERTY, IS WEARING PAJAMAS WITH STARS AND STRIPES, AND TOMATOES ARE THROWN AT A BUST OF HITLER AT THE END OF THE FILM...I do wish people would pay more attention. THIS FILM IS ACTUALLY ANTI-COMMUNIST.

  • 3:25 jews are going up and up xD

  • @schranztech

    fuck you...

  • @taloknin fuck you, offended cunt.

  • You know how there's several guys there whose jobs are to tell that one guy to do his job? That's basically how Disney's animation studios worked a decade or so ago.

  • Thumbs if the Nostalgia Critic brought you here. Who knew Donald Duck was once a Nazi? Hmm...That explains a lot, actually! XD He never gives me his potions in Kingdom Hearts :(

  • That said walt disney was a huge racist that believed in eugenics and white supremacy. Anyone who thinks he wasnt read up on him...or watch song of the south and tell it to tarbaby

  • that is a bunch of bull one of walts early animators was black and walt hired his own animators. the song of the south was praised by the NAACP when it came out. he said that it was from one of the great negro philosophers. all the other stuff you are reading is wrong it all started when he testified during the McCarthy era.

  • As a jew I got to say seeing donald duck hail that son of a bitch with his ass is priceless

  • WTH? How is this racist? We all know why this was made.....Afterall, it was during the time of WWII.... and as you can see, they are clearly making fun of it- not supporting r being rascist. I mean the Germans did the same w/ us. Also, I know the military made little jokes like this too. This is not supporting Hitler, but rather making fun of....ending says all as well.......

I wont rant anymore on this though :P

  • ahhh...American propaganda you gotta love it

  • There's something special that warms my heart in seeing Donald Duck saying "Heil Hitler"

  • Wow, Hitler, Yamamoto, and Moussolini(sp?) in the same parody.

  • It not racist but Walt Disney in reality Mocking the Germans and their fantasy of conquering the world through stupidity. At the 7.54 mark the Hitler Jackass gets an American tomato in der face. Awesome. A tribute to a fine gentleman that Mister Walt Disney really was..............

  • Wonderful! And rather innocent.

Ridicule is the best when dealing with tyrants.

  • 3:30 looks like a middle finger

  • omg whuuuut!? that is... scary; and i wouldn't have thought disney would make something where they talk about nazis...

  • @KittyTheNekoAlien Scary? What do you find scary about it? Remember the fact that WE WERE AT WAR, this was made to MAKE FUN of nazis. Do you not know your history? ...aww, nevermind.

  • @CrazyBear65

no i rembember my history, but i didnt expect disney to do propaganda type stuff... especially since its geared towards children

  • @KittyTheNekoAlien

All the major animation studios did this back then. Times were different. To do this sort of thing now would cause a huge ruckus, not so back then.

  • That's THE most annoying rooster in the world.

  • what the fuckkkkkkkk

  • the fuck? heavy weapons guy need to kill them!

  • wow wonder why Walt disney want a nazizm episode saw is forbidden now?

  • Of course it is anti-nazism, but I like also the two sides of the Statue of Liberty. :D

  • if any1 remembers seeing this on tv tell me at the time tell me haha

  • American soldiers would sing this song during World War II. XD Except they didn't use a tuba to punctuate it.

  • They really gave you this Book when you got married...

  • 1:29 the house looks like hitler lol

  • yo coming at hitler tho this mess is too funny why it gotta be donald tho lol

  • If this is forbidden then how did you up loaded it???

  • @eaglesky20 magic

  • i didn't understand A WORD x) and it's the best thing in Donald cartoons!

  • I think it's funny you can talk about killing someone in the middle of TOTAL WAR in a cartoon about being forced at gunpoint to make weapons, but you can't say "hell."

  • im glad ww2 is over >D

  • wtf haha the asian had to be yellow lol

  • lol

  • I could not stop laughing when the rooster was screaming "HEIL HITLER".

  • This is hilarious

  • Hahahahaaaaaa!!!!!!!!! :-D

  • I like those bushes :D

  • I'm German, and it's funny to hear how americans think about the german language. By the way, good film.

  • @SparkyxDSparky you don't need to tell us you're german, that's pretty obvious after your last two words, cuz this can say on video with thousands of swastikas with nonstop heiling/hitler saluting ONLY german

  • i like the clock that quietly whispers heil hitler

  • Lol my last name is Goering!

  • And theres also a Hess at my school in my grade

  • I remember watching this cartoon about 9 or 10 years after the end of World War II.

There was a great "push" to make the 6:9 format of the movies, into the 4:3 format of television, back then.

(Of course, all cartoons were in black-and-white, only, in the 1950s)

  • @orlovna2

CORRECTION: All "televized" (ie, on TV) cartoons were not in color, in the 1950s.

Color TV came along, in 1960. But, most color-TV sets were so expensive that people could not afford them, until some years later.

  • super-duper-super-men! that was funny!

  • This is *supposed* to be anti-Nazi. It was made back in the 1940s. I was a small kid back then. Why would anybody think this is racist?

You're supposed to hate the Nazi. You'd be evil if you didn't hate the Nazi's. What was there to like about Nazi???????

No, of course this was never banned, don't be silly. It was made during WWII to promote the message of anti-nazism which should be the same message today in 2010, and why not? Gheeesh, some of you people writing comments sure are young.

  • I thought this episode was very good, especially if u watch it till the end :D

  • Disney though Nazis would take over the world in WWII?

  • Nothing racist about this. It's STILL perfectly fine to make fun of Nazis.

I think the main reason this episode hasn't been re-released is because it is so incredibly dated. Most 5 year olds would be bored by this. Disney doesn't exactly pander to adult viewers.

  • @AcidJack1973 In Germany its even forbidden to SHOW the "Hakenkreuz"... you really dont know what its like to be a german guy who really cant do anything for this...Most of the Germans absolutely HATE Hitler, because now everytime you say, that youre german everyone else says " Youre Nazi" -..-

  • that's so stupid!

just because someone is german does NOT mean they were a Nazis or in Hitler's 'FanClub"

You sure as hell can't generalize in that area

    unbelievable.

  • @megghan18 Youre speaking right from my heart (: youre so right :D

  • @NewEternity Mhmm!!!

  • This is Anti Nazi, (the tomato says it all.) So..yeh.

  • this is anti nazi cartoon, then racist.

  • they showed this in my history class. It's more anti nazi than racist

  • thats a pretty crappy ending

  • It seems much more anti-nazi than anything else.

  • lol

  • I think they aired it to the GI's in the front during WW2

  • Haha, this disappoints me so much, my childhood is ruined :(

  • HAHAHAHA

  • Hilarious!....Rofl!......

  • oh my god this must the funniest think EVER!!!

  • hahahahahhaahhhahhahahahahahaa

  • Sieg Heil! Seig Heil! Right in der Fuhrer's face!

Damn that is one catchy tune.

  • I saw this in history today. 1:06 to 1:08 made me laugh so hard.

  • this cartoon was not banned

it was made suring WWII to promote the message of anti-nazism

  • Whahahaha :D

  • ich habs immer gewußt...donald der olle faschist! ;)

  • Comment removed

  • the bread is made wood lol

  • 5:08-5:09 did he say under his breath, "you son of a bitch!"

    XDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • Indeed he did!

  • we had to listen to this song over and over again when i was doing gcse history last year and say the 9 steps to nazi rule over and over in our heads to the music so we wouldn't forget it and it worked! i can still remember it now :) brings back some good memories this vid :')

  • Wow, this was almost embarrsssing to watch at the beginning, but at least it had a happy ending! :]

  • This episode is a personal favorite, for the Fact it was a Satire of Nazi's and good proganda, whats a better way of Justifing a war then with a Cartoon Character saying its good to be an American....makes you wonder

  • looks like what the US is comin g to under BO

  • It's amazing how fluid and consistent their animation was back then.

I look at some of the cartoons on TV nowadays, and I'm like "What the fuck?"

Stale, choppy animation, lack of detail, inconsistencies in the shapes of objects, and and stupid, uninteresting characters.

  • short summery

    flash< traditional animation

  • This cartoon is... controversial, to say the least, but I've got to give it to them: These guys knew how to make cartoons.

"The Animator's Survival Kit", "Illusion of Life: Disney Animation"; and "Cartoon Animation" are considered BIBLES on the subject. They're the best books I've ever read on animation.

Granted, they talk about traditional animation, but technology can only help as long as the people in charge know theory and practice about animation.

  • you have to be blind to not see that it is a caricature & american propaganda : so I don't see in what it can be called "controversial".

  • The problem here, with it, are the stereotypes. Sure enough, they were at war with the Axis powers, and the media had to stereotype them, but now, the image of a short, yellow, small-eyed man with glasses and big teeth is offensive to our days.

Besides, even if the nazis were ridiculed here, and even if Disney won an Oscar over this cartoon, they kept it out of circulation for quite a while because of that -- it was a propaganda cartoon.

  • If you put it in its context it cannot be offensive ; it is an historical document. People who have no set-back about what they see and hear might think it's offensive, yes, but not because of some don't understand doesn't mean it must be hidden and kept away from everybody. This cartoon has its very qualities as a document and is funny too :3.

  • @TrunkJunky Yeah,it's sad how they just don't seem to make much effort with cartoons anymore at least here in the states.

  • @TrunkJunky

give me an example of choppy animation in a modern tv show...

and i totally agree, a buck toothed yellow japanese man is the epitome of genius in terms of creating a character with depth...

  • @djdogdog

The Secret Saturdays, Batman: Brave & the Bold, etc.

  • @TrunkJunky could not be more right

  • Anti-Nazi propaganda at it's finest. <3

  • Schweinehund, verdammter Esel LOOOOL!! xD

  • tja...und das war noch bevor die ganze Scheiße rauskam...

  • what a great episode! really

  • lol 1:07. This cartoon is crazy. I wonder what people thought of it when it came out.

  • it didn't came out that's the whole point!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes it did see:Der Fuehrer's Face is a 1943 animated cartoon by the Walt Disney Studios, starring Donald Duck. It was directed by Jack Kinney and released on January 1, 1943 as an anti-Nazi propaganda movie for the American war effort. The film won the 1943 Academy Award for Animated Short Film and in 1994 was voted #22 of "the 50 Greatest Cartoons" of all time by members of the animation field.

  • This short was released January 1st, 1943 as anti-Nazi propaganda for the American war effort. It won the 1943 Academy Award for best Short Animated Film. The reason for it not being broadcasted on television in the later years was due to it being propaganda and not having to do anything with race issues. We must remember as well that animated shorts in those years were made for an adult audience prior to the commencement of a feature film.

  • I couldnt belive this was real at first... but at the end I realised it. What a crazy world we live in!

  • The cartoon is patriotic---but is it based on the Spike Jones song?

  • this is funny and LOL at the gay comments

  • Folks, this isn't racism. It's propaganda. That was an exagerrated characiture of Hirohito. America was united during WWII to defeat our enemies. Disney was making fun of Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and Imperial Japan, not the races themselves. We've become way too overly sensitive as a society to things like this. This cartoon was made when 3 dictators had a good chance of conquering the world for a war-tired US population.

  • thank you for being an intelligent commenter.

  • hahahahahahahahahaha verything is that mark of hes xDxDxDxDxDxDxD

  • it's a big lie!

  • Although it makes me laugh that people scream racism when they see the depiction of the Japanese character when the German was just as bad especially Hitler itself but every one hates Hitler so every one overlooks that especially when that was the point if the cartoon

  • Has this been retitled? I could swear I saw this same cartoon called "Donald In Nutsy Land"... did they change the name after Spike Jones had the big hit with Der Fuehrer's Face?

  • god i love this episode its funny as hell

  • i was lmao hahaha!

  • The Shell production in this movie is like in todays USA.

  • donald just get draget into all kinda stuff x) poor duck.

  • Poor Donald at the assembly line!

  • Kind of Disturbing. The swastikas are kind of annoying

  • seig heil.

  • lol he was a nazi.

  • I can see why it was forbidden. For one there's swastikas EVERYWHERE! And second, I'm sure that parent didn't want there kids hailing everywhere. Kids copy whatever they see on TV.

  • It was not forbidden. It was propaganda.

Why should the government make propaganda illegal?
