I neither watch US or English football all that closely but when ever Fullham was playing I always made a note to put it on because watching McBride is always a pleasure.
To all you complaining that hes goals aren't "flashy enough" know very little about football. He never complained, always played his heart out, was a great leader, and is complete class, which imo, makes a great footballer. Many traits that today's "stars" lack.
I'm American. My older brother and I always played the game, and when my brother was in school he used to play against McBride probably twice a year. He was always the best player on the pitch, like a man against boys. He was destined to be amazing. That he became a legend at Fulham was something I did not anticipate. I wish I could thumbs up this video another 100 times. Hats off to one of the greatest Yanks ever.
That aside. It's a shame that he has to retire at the end of this year. He was an absolute fantastic player. Represented the USA and showed the world that Americans CAN play the beautiful game.
Even though the US will probably never win a WC in the next 100 years, I can always respect the way their players handle themselves on the field around the world and in WCs. They have a very blue collar attitude where if they're down they fight back harder, win or lose. i grew up watching Brian McBride play for the Columbus Crew, i was really lucky to get an opportunity while studying England in 2006 to get to see him play for Fulham against Arsenal, where he put in two header goals. It's just good to see an American fella play some ball with the best in the world. As we all know every country besides America is better at football. When we're growing up in the states as young kids we play football (AMerican) and baseball. Hence thats why the rest of the world is ahead of us in the sport. It's just good to see an American fella play some ball with the best in the world. As we all know every country besides America is better at football. When we're growing up in the states as young kids we play football (AMerican) and baseball. Hence thats why the rest of the world is ahead of us in the sport. It just comes natural to those kids, they grow up with it. I just wish we were able to truly show the passion we have here in the states. Gotta love the guy!!!

id say him and reyna are neck-in-neck at this point, even though claudio declined very rapidly in his older years while mcbride only seemed to get better.
