In this video, Fink talks about the ratio of Israelis killed to Palestinians killed. Without uttering a single false word, he was able to create the impression that Israel had acted disproportionately. But he completely omits Hamas' blatant war crimes, upon which Cast Lead was predicated. Israel's response was proportionate and overdue.

Chiomob, you say "no wonder he was denied tenure." Do you know the events surrounding the tenure denial? Alan Dershowitz, unscrupulous lawyer, and to Harvard's shame, a law professor there, whose scholarship does not come close to matching that of Finkelstein's, launched a well-documented smear campaign against Finkelstein to affect this denial of tenure. He is well known for pressuring and threatening university administrators who allow debate and serious study re: the Middle East.

I'm no fan of Alan Dershowitz either, if only because he had no ethical reservations in defending the murderer OJ Simpson, although I believe him to be a far better scholar than Finkelstein. In any case, I think you drastically overestimate his power if you think he was instrumental in defeating Finkelstein's tenure bid at DePaul. What sort of threats or pressure could Dershowitz level at DePaul U to compel them to deny Finkelstein's tenure? And what concrete evidence of this theory exists?

have you ever considered the possibility that the very fact that he is Jewish is the reason why he says what he says and takes the positions he takes?

Finkelstein is the son of Holocaust survivors. his mother was in Majdanek, his father was in Auschwitz. and he gets very angry when he sees (some) Israelis and American Jews using the memory of his parents' suffering to justify the infliction of suffering on the Palestinians. not too hard to understand.
