No shame losing to benetau he was a tough fighter in the early days. You know I still enjoy these Bullshido guys. Talking about "Effective" and "Real" martial arts, yet every video they post is under controlled rules with gloves and shin guards and what not. When these kids start releasing some Backyard, Bareknuckle, Kimbo slice style videos i will give them credit. Until then, they are just more wheels on a bandwagon.
@corkyfraud Kimbo Slice was a legendary street fighter but look what happened when he joined MMA. He got his ass handed to him. But he's a tough bare knuckle fister and he found out that Boxing suits him more and he's won all 4 pro Boxing matches. But Kimbo Slice would still destroy and rip the fuck out of any Wing Chun sifus. Boxing is just modernized version of bare knuckle fisting. Boxing is proven effective in MMA and Full Contact. It may not be the most ideal style but it works.
@EdDy4RheelZ You missed my point. My concern is not with how well Wing Chun or boxing works. My concern is that these posers from Bullshido blabber mindlessly about how "Effective" or "Realistic" a martial art is and then "Throwdown" using pads, gloves and rules. That is not "REALISTIC". Training for fun or competition and training for the variables of unforeseen violent conflict takes a very different mindset. 99% of these kids would shit their pants in the case of a home invasion.
Wing Chun is the Chinese close-quarters fighting art known for its practical hand-to-hand combat abilities. It is used by the Chinese Army as well as hundreds of military, self-defense experts & law enforcement agencies around the world including the US Navy Seals, FBI, CIA, French RAID and German SEK. Wing Chun's effectiveness is achieved through its efficiency, leverage and scientific movement rather than through brute strength or fancy techniques.
AGAIN if an obstacle prevents a straight line of attack Wing Chun principle (also mathematically correct theory) from happening the Wing Chun practitioner DOES NOT STOP and SIMPLY BECOME INEFFECTIVE :) A GOOD Wing Chun Practitioner will simply feel the resistant energy, shift her/ his structure to a better striking position and then continue with the original principle (STRAIGHT LINE OF ATTACK).. YOU GOTTA BE JOKING IF YOU REALLY BELIEVE an 'obstacle' WILL STOP WING CHUN ALL TOGETHER GEEZ :)
WING CHUN fundamentals: Watch the following movies just to see a nice choreographed version of Wing Chun principles or go to a good Wing Chun school under BILL GRAVES or DR. SCOTT MULLEN. The Movies: 'The Prodigal Son: Wing Chun vs. Dragon Style' and the movie: 'Warriros Two' not (Warriors 2) :) Gooood display of straight line of attack beats a circle and arcing attack. A more recent movie: IP MAN 1 is a very good display of Wing Chun principles. AGAIN if an 'Obstacle' prevents (Will Continue)
(Continued) Wing Chun consist of strikes (eye, throat, groin strikes to be specific) that will quickly end an organized fight. One BIG REASON why FULL Wing Chun can not be allowed in organized fighting is because the organization WOULD NOT MAKE MUCH MONEY OVER TIME :) If the fights all ended with in a few minutes or less (as a fight should end) and organization can't make money from customers who came to see a brawl. People like to see a back and forth fight that ends in a knockout PERIOD :)
VIDEO FOOTAGE :) is NOT the Proving grounds that decides if a martial art or fighting system is practical, efficient, and a good investment of one's time. If you watch UFC, K-1, Pride videos, and other organized fights there are RULES out the Ying Yang :) If you watch UFC and some one gets his balls 'busted' or takes an eye thrust (gouge)..the ball attack and/or the eye gouge is SOOOOOO EFFECTIVE ..:) The damn ref has to save the person on the receiving end. Wing Chun consist of (will continue)
Judo/ Yudo/ Jap Jiu Jitsu/ Brzl Jiu Jitsu/ Capoeira are arts that emphasize circular motions.
Boxing/ Taekwondo/ are arts that emphasize arcing motions.
Ving Tsun Gung Fu (Wing Chun) emphasizes NO circular NO arcing motions. Wing Chun uses a straight line of attack as a basis for the system :) In Ving Tsun we have a saying 'Straight line beats a Circle'.... If the straight line of attack encounters an obstacle before the attack hits its target then we simply and fluidly shift our structure :)
@Vvrroommm Please dont spam the pages of Wing Chun sucks vids, it makes you look stupid(no offence) it also gives the trolls something to talk about and start ranting on and on about how WC apparently sucks and MMA is amazing at everything, you watch they'll reply to me for making this comment.....
@TheLukeylala Looking stupid is the least of my concerns :) Learn to transcend the opinions of others and you'll not be so concerned either. Thanks for your objective point of view. Good day sir or ma'am.
@Vvrroommm its not the fact of your opinions its just there's no need to post like 30 comments one after the other if you know what im saying. as a WChunner myself i dont think it gives the best impression thats all..... :) and just ignore @Mcflanigan and @Wingchunisforhomos coz ive seen alot of there comments on WC vids and its like their there just to troll and claim there MMA superiority theories.......(No disrespect to MMA,but it wont teach you how to stop a knife...) :D
@TheLukeylala :) Everyone is given the opportunity to post as she/he wishes and also the owner's of her/his channel has the ability to remove post that she/he see's as a 'problem'. The owner of the channel is okay with my multiple post, I am also okay with the many post in a row that I posted. Post as you wish without limitations. Good day :)
@MacFlanahan Any evidence of someone using MMA to stop a knife?
ANYWHERE? no, but there are vids of knife defence in practice with Wing Chun. MMA is very, very good in a ring, but it wont save you in the street. In fact ive seen an MMA fighter who failed when doing a simulation knife attack, out of the 11 stab wounds he would of sustained, it only would of taken 1 to kill him, because an MMA fighters instinct at close range is to grapple.
@MacFlanahan The MMA knife fail vid is on youtube. And Wing Chun knife defence techniques are also used in Krav Maga, why would they use it if it didnt work? considering that alot of techniques from Wing Chun, Eskrima and Krav Maga(which are all very similar to each other) are taught to the Special Forces, CIA, Bodyguards etc dont be so ignorant.
@TheLukeylala Krav Maga and other styles are almost opposite to what Wing Chun teaches. Krav Maga and other styles don't worry about centerline or much trapping. They use full hip rotation and spar regularly. The similarties are few and the differences are many.
Please post the link of the MMA knife fail.
MMA works.
There's TONS of video of it working on the street and against decent fighters. Some of it against people with weapons.
@MacFlanahan The knife fail is on an episode of human weapon, Jason Chambers(a man who was taught by Eddie Bravo, who was the first man to beat a Gracie in a Grapple) Fails in a knife attack simulation(Krav maga episode) the full episode is on youtube. Would you mind showing me a vid of MMa working in the street(not being funnyor anything,i actually would like to see it)
Im not going to get into a stupid argument with you again, i believe almost every martial art has something to offer.
@MacFlanahan no imbecile...preferring something over others is simply a personal choice. If that were the case any idiot, like you, could "prefer" stuff and call it a style.
I never said I was a chunner did I? Why don't you knock on boxing then because it doesn't defend against a knife? Stinking moron....
@MacFlanahan A style has definitive lineage along with concepts and principles and a catalog of techniques that is uniquely different from anything else. New information. They don't change at the base level but they can change with time at the overall level. All schools have to share this common ground and teaching structure. It isn't a matter of personal preference like MMA, which is a combat sport steeped with regulations and protective equipment.
@jamespohh Interesting. So can you name the lineage of Boxing? How about Muay Thai? Can you name the lineage of Wrestling? Speaking of wrestling, there's tons of different types of wrestling: there's Greco-Roman, and Folk, and Freestyle. They vary pretty significantly but they are all wrestling. Do you seriously think they are not 'Styles'?
@MacFlanahan Why do I need to name the lineage? You can research the historical roots of boxing, wrestling and Muay Thai on your own. Wrestling is the umbrella term that covers them all but they can be broken down into their own individual component styles. I never said they weren't styles. In the same sense kickboxing is an umbrella term that covers any style that kicks and punches - Muay Thai, Sanshou, Lethwei, etc. It can also refer to the sport and the rules dictated.
@jamespohh Yep. The lineages of many styles are unclear. For every style there was a creator. Someone (or some people) who already knew some other styles and created their own new take on how to fight
@MacFlanahan They're not that unclear. There are many old historical records, drawings, evidence to trace back to. Yet they each evolved with their own unique and distinct flavor of combat expression. A BJJ stylist is always going to look like a BJJ stylist. A Savateur is always going to look like a Savateur. A "MMA" person can be anything, a karateka, a sanda fighter, a thai boxer with cross training in some form of grappling. No two are alike. It's hardly a concrete style.
@jamespohh Absurd. While you can combine many things into MMA, a skilled MMA fighter will look like a skilled MMA fighter. If you know of another style (other than pankration) that has such an even mixture of striking, takedowns, and submissions, please list it.
@MacFlanahan MMA competition is not even unique LOL. Japanese did it and called it "shooto". Yet Shooto is not a style. Vale Tudo existed for ages in Brazil but it's not a style ya dope. It's a type of sport competition that allows standing and ground techniques and so by definition anybody can throw anything together to remain competitive. I mean my God, if I threw together some basic Judo and wrestling and called it BJJ ppl will have my head LOL. Get real.
@MacFlanahan K-1 is the "MMA" version of stand up fighting styles. Thai boxers, Karatekas, Kung fu stylists, Kenpo stylists, Kickboxers, boxers, etc can enter K-1 to test their skills. Does that make "K-1" a style? No.
@jamespohh the style they use in K-1 is kickboxing (mostly). Outside of Pankration, can you name another style that uses an equal misture of strikes, takedowns, and submissions? If not, the name of the new mixture of tecniques used is 'MMA'
@MacFlanahan Equal mixture? What defines equal? Filipino martial arts incorporates strikes, weaponry, grappling, locks and submissions. But it's not "MMA" is it? Same with Sambo or Jujutsu or Hapkido. So would Bujinkan taijutsu and many styles of Silat. I'd throw JKD in but isn't even a style but a training method and philosophy. Each has their own techniques, structure and evolved with new unique information, not just a mish mash of one's preferences.
@MacFlanahan Exactly what? I've already listed a good number of them. All of them have evolved in their own right to be truly unique in their own right. MMA isn't a style, it's just a mashup of stuff any schlub can put together for the purposes of sport combat. It's called training in more than one style. There is nothing new about that as it has been done for ages. There are no new unique ideas or techniques to be found.
@MacFlanahan Uh no. If anything MMA is an umbrella term for different organizations and their combat sports out there. Not a style. A MIX of martial styles. It has no new information, no distinctness, no unified techniques, nothing we have never seen before in other styles. It has no lineage other than someone coining the term "MMA". Styles are distinct from other styles, but there is little deviation within the style. MMA is not like that. It's all different per person.
@MacFlanahan Thank you for the attempt at defining the word "style". By that token I can swing my right cross twisted in a knot like a corkscrew and deem that a distinct style seperate from boxing. I call my new punching technique "smerg". Why? Because I felt like it. My preference as opposed to what my boxing coach showed me. Yea that sounds right. Puh-leez
@jamespohh You could totally create that style. There was a time when none of the styles we currently have had names. People chose some techniques over others and gave the preference of those movements a name.
Whether it's music, painting, martial arts, or anything else, a 'Style' is just a preference of certain techniques over others.
@MacFlanahan And yet even though a style is a preference, you tell other people that there preference is wrong and useless? That's just immature. And umm, yeah there should be evidence of it working considering what we do is very similar to Judo grappling.......
@MacFlanahan Fair enough. But any Self Defense martial art that is taught to special forces gets my vote, that's why Wing Chun, Eskrima and Krav Maga are my fav. Funny how MMA isnt taught to special forces........because it works real well in the ring with one guy and a set of rules, but not so much in the real world. I have the utmost respect for MMA fighters and there methods of training, but it isnt so effective in the real world as some other martial arts. MMA isnt the be all and end all.
@MacFlanahan Well i hadnt seen any 'Empirical' of training, so i assumed. I would like to see more than just 2 guys talking about it and demonstrating techniques though. Because otherwise it still lacks credibility of being effective in the real world against trained fighters, as the vid is just a 'Demo'. I dont think you understand the fact that its just as much about the fighter as the art, if you saw a terrible MMA fighter,y ou wouldnt say every MMA fighter sucked would you?
@MacFlanahan Its just a shame that there are alot of really bad chunners out there who 'think' they can fight. I cant prove that what im taught is effective to you, but im not stupid, i do not waste my time. i think my class is just a little different to most, seeing as we employ certain grabs and chokes from other arts(when neccessary). And we will also start sparring in a couple of weeks once Sifu gets back from Hong Kong, giving us a 'feel' of fighting against a resisting foe.
@MacFlanahan Your comments seem to be flagged as spam alot....... and those good chunners are probably in the kwoon, or at home and getting a life, instead of worrying about having a career of fighting in the ring or having to prove anything. Statistics show that a person who trains in a martial art that promotes maturity, spirituality and all round well-being have a much higher chance of defusing a fight situation than people who dont.
@TheLukeylala My comments get flagged because a number of chunners are cowards who would rather try to silence others than engage in a civil discussion.
@MacFlanahan Mature, Good Wing Chunners want nothing but peace, so yeah, you'll probably rarely if ever see one fight. And if im ever unlucky enough to get into a fight, i'll try finding any CCTV footage that the nearby shops or whatever might of captured. Anyway, im tired of your argument, i wish nothing but the best. Are you always on youtube just to spam chunners!? :D haha, seems like it. Sincerely, all the best man, in everything you do, peace. ;)
@TheLukeylala I never 'spam' chunners. I ask them questions they seem to have no answer for.
As for the peaceful nature of chunners, are they significantly more peaceful than karateka? Are the more peaceful than a Judo player? A tai chi practitioner?
No.
There's video of all of them, but none of wing chun working on someone decent.
Why?
Because it doesn't work.
If it did, with millions of chunners and millions of cameras, it could provide some video.
@MacFlanahan uummmmm, Judo and Karate are also sports, in which you compete to rank up, so yeah i wouldnt say its as peaceful. But how often have you seen a street fight with a Karate or Judo man?
Oh, and by the way Chunners have won Kick-boxing Tournaments, so it cant be that bad.
Anyway, i hope ive convinced you that not all chunners are immature cry babies. And when i see a vid of your amazing fight skills, i believe you, until then your just another keyboard warrior. :)
@MacFlanahan What are you on about? i said that i'll be doing sparring in class soon didn't i? you know, against a resisting opponent......i don't think any of us will be able to 'take it on faith' once we have actually tried it against someone who doesn't wanna get hit and is fighting back! if a certain 'Sao' doesn't work in sparring do you think i'll keep using it? Absurd. You seem to think i am a complete idiot.
@MacFlanahan Fair enough, good to know. i love how people like you say its really useless when ive seen alot of the blocks and striking in other martial arts. in WC its called a 'Biu Jee' but in another art its called a high block, yet if you saw it in Krav maga you would say 'ooh that looks effective' but in WC you'd say it was useless. I think Wing Chun lacks.....aggression, which doesnt help. alot of chunners allow the other person to take the initiative by hitting first.
@TheLukeylala Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. Even a Model T will get you down the road. It's not whether Wing Chun will let you beat a noob; it's whether it will allow you do win against someone decent.
Wing Chun is like the four-move-checkmate.
It will win against a noob, but centerline, trapping, vertical punching, and a square shouldered stance will only get you hurt against someone decent.
@MacFlanahan What are you on about, there's nothing wrong with the centerline theory, since Krav Maga, a proven art uses it.......or vertical punching. its alot safer and more powerful to throw a punch with your thumb up than a twisted fist, quicker too(im not on about hook punches now) and you've got a much lower chance of breaking your wrist. but yeah, i dont like the stance, i'll do it to keep sifu happy but yeah, ive never liked it. And PLEASE show me evidence of an MMA street fight, cheers.
@MacFlanahan I'll be going to a Krav Maga class soon(though i suppose you'll say that it couldn't possibly be as good as MMA either) and if i find anything more useful than WC do you think i'll use it? Hell yes. besides the boxing punches and the stance, its very similar, they also use a centerline theory and below the belt kicks, and the blocks are very similar too, along with the elbows etc.
@TheLukeylala Lots of evidence of krav maga being effective against a decent opponent in the ring and on the street.
None of wing chun.
When wign chun can provide empirical evidence, it should be believed. Until the, it's as credible as someone saying they can beat a great runner by running backwards.
@TheLukeylala The 'Not-bad' chunner of which you speak seems to be like some mystical Bigfoot that some have seen but no one has ever managed to get on camera.
@MacFlanahan and im trying to collect anything that will work. personally i dont like the Wing Chun stance, i much prefer a kickboxing stance or something similar, however the centerline is the quickest route to your opponent. Even if a Wing Chun punch isnt the most powerful its most certainly the most dangerous because it gets to your opponent faster and you can keep hitting once youve got that first hit in. I like some MMA stuff to, but grappling wont do you any good against more than one guy.
@TheLukeylala I'm glad you're ditching the stupid Wing Chun stance. Keep ditching things and you'll find you're a much better fighter.
As for going against more than one fighter, what are you going to do if one of them tries to take you down? Land a perfect knockout strike? Don't count on it.
If multiple people try to take you down, you NEED grappling to know how to defend.
@MacFlanahan Uuuum, i could sprawl or move out the way and hit them on there exposed neck. And you dont need a knockout punch to stun someone and knock them back, in the street you dont wanna just stand there and try to hold off 2+ guys, you wanna take them out, quick. And again to your 'Grappling advice' if im trying to grapple one guy, his mate is punching my face in, im telling you, in the street grappling on the ground WONT help.
@MacFlanahan Paul Vunak, a man who trains Navy Seals to KILL, KILL, uses alot of wing chun along with eskrima. from watching him on youtube, trapping does work. in the range that your trying to throw the guy of you because he has you pinned against the wall, he'll be trapping your hands and hitting you in the face with a lovely bony elbow, a good hit to your Adam's apple and punching your face in. The only people who dont like Wing Chun are people who have never done it before, or sucked at it.
@MacFlanahan Go ask for a fight with him or anyone he's ever trained, and im sure you'll see it work. Also, the government asked HIM, not an MMA trainer to train there special forces. And if you've ever seen a chunner get beaten, its probably in the ring right? on the other fighters terms. Ive never seen it the other way round, on the chunners terms.
@MacFlanahan Anecdotal is more like someone saying something happened or you experienced it,even though it may be true you cant be sure that it is and Empirical is seeing the evidence, such as youtube. But if you did ask for a no holds bar fight with him, then posted your messed up face on youtube, then that would be some good evidence. And all these vids show BAD Wing chunners, if you saw alot of people playing a sport really bad would you assume that everyone that played that sport was bad?
@TheLukeylala No, anecdotal evidence is notoriously bad.
If you have empirical evidence of 'good' wing chun please post it.
Until you can provide empirical evidence, it has all the credibility of bigfoot, faerries, ghosts, and all the other thing supported only by anecdotal evidence.
@MacFlanahan And you seem to thing that i dont deal with grappling AT ALL. we cover grappling in our class, once we get to that range, and use submission techniques such as arm lock while disabling a leg etc.
@MacFlanahan He's right dirtbag. Jason Chambers (MMA) tried his stuff on a nationally televised episode of Krav Maga on Human Weapon and promptly "died". Even the instructor told him he was good in the ring, but in reality he sucked.
We also have the incident of Joe Lozito, an MMA enthusiast/fan, who nearly died when he tried to single leg a knife wielding attacker on the NYC subway.
@jamespohh dirtbag?!! LOL. Someone disagrees with you and they suddenly become a 'dirtbag'?!
Can anyone wonder why I LOVE chunners? It like I just told a Christian that I don't think he actually turned water into wine. Question them even a little bit and you're a 'dirtbag'.
But I digress.
It's hard to fight someone with a weapon. EXTREMELY hard. There are some examples of people winning, but it's rare. watch?v=BdyD4Qceo2A
There are ZERO examples of Wing Chun winning vs. a weapon.
@MacFlanahan Ur right....cocksucker is a better term. Ur a cocksucker. Sure there are examples. It isn't hard to pak sao someone who's got a weapon and punch him out or lock him up...and I've done that. Can you do that? No. Plus it's done ALL the time when it comes to Filipino Martial arts. I like dopes like you. So easy to trample on.
You know what people don't get is that if this stuff doesn't work, then why are a lot of the principles incorporated into a lot of the training that our special forces go through? And come on, knocking on Bruce Lee and Emin Boztepe, that's just ignorant. Bruce practically invented MMA by being the first person to start a successful school that broke away from traditionalism. That being said I laughed really hard at the last joke, stop smoking the bong sau.
:) BAD WING CHUN gives some of you all INCORRECT CONCLUSIONS regarding Ving Tsun Gung Fu :) GUARANTEE (just for thinking fighters): GUARANTEE: If you TOUCH HANDS with a good Wing Chun Lineage you will not out fight any of those Wing Chun practitioners :) LINEAGE to TEST Your SkILLS..Ok HErE Ya Are: BILL GRAVES or SIFU SCOTT MULLEN. GOOD WING CHUN will give you a better perspective of How to REALLY FIGHT Efficiently and not like a BUFFOON :) GOOD Ving Tsun versus BAD Ving Tsun
TexasWingChun dot CM.. Sifu Scott Mullen under his Sifu from Florida (Mr. Bill Graves)..Bill Graves now in Switzerland to take over a local Wing Chun school because these folks where learning bad Wing Chun..So WING CHUN CAN SUCK but not under Dr. SCOTT MULLEN and BILL GRAVES from the lineage of Yip Man..Dr. Scott Mullen accepts walk in challenges and probably always will: people with the unstoppable technique leave understanding its all about leverage and position (Wing Chun concepts) :)
Lineage: Yip Man -> Leung Sheung -> Kenneth Chung -> Ben Der -> Ken Werner -> Karl Godwin-> Bill Graves->Dr.SCOTT MULLEN
KARL GODWIN 2 of 2
Karl learned the entire art from Ken Werner as his sole pupil and opened a public class in August of 1982. Because of Ken's long arms, his Chi Sao had developed a "long bridge", offering an unusual and effective approach to a traditionally close-in martial art.
Lineage: Yip Man -> Leung Sheung -> Kenneth Chung -> Ben Der -> Ken Werner -> Karl Godwin-> Bill Graves->Dr.SCOTT MULLEN
KARL GODWIN 1 of 2
Karl Godwin brings you modern training methods of Wing Chun Kung Fu. He been teaching Wing Chun since 1982, and during that time has taught many students who have become masters of the art. Karl has been training consistently for nearly 30 years.
"I have been training at The Dragon Institute for just a few months and can already see an improvement in my balance and endurance. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to better themselves both physically and mentally."
"I drive all the way from Pasadena, to train here. Depending on traffic, the travel time is about an hour and a half. The way I look at it, if I'm going to spend my time training, I want it to be the best training I can get. Not just somewhere that's close."
"As a jiu-jitsu black belt I've always loved martial arts but felt like I needed something more practical for street self-defense. After taking a private lesson at The Dragon Institute during a surf trip to San Clemente I fell in love with the effectiveness and efficiency of Wing Chun." -Victor Chaves, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
"I've searched from LA to Orange County to San Diego for the best Wing Chun. After two years and three different instructors, I finally found The Dragon Institute in Orange County. This is REAL Wing Chun - pure, authentic, not watered down!"
"If you want a Wing Chun system that really works, check out The Dragon Institute. These guys are as good as it gets. Sifu Adam is a rare case of someone that pretty much lives and breathes Wing Chun and does it in incredible fashion!" -Lukas Klaus, Berlin, Germany
"...the school was very clean and professional yet had a warm, family-type feeling to it... everyone was very welcoming and seemed to be excited about helping me even though I had no idea what I was doing... the value of the classes is extremely inexpensive considering the level of knowledge..."
Wing Chun Primary Lineage: Historical Ancestors > Yat Chum > Cheung Ng (Tan Sao Ng) > Leung Yee Tai > Dr. Leung Jan (Leung Tak Wing) > Chan Wah Shun > Ip Man 葉問 (Yip Gai-Man) > Leung Sheung 梁相 > Kenneth Chung (Chung Maannin) > Ben Der > Ken Werner > Karl Godwin > Bill Graves > Sifu Scott Mullen
Wing Chun is most famous for being the art that shaped the life, philosophy and martial arts system of Bruce Lee. His sifu was the legendary Ip Man (aka Yip Man), the grandmaster credited with being the first to teach Wing Chun publicly.
Today, it is considered by many experts to be the most effective self-defense systems in the world. A highly efficient combat-tested system of self defense, fighting skills and defensive tactics, Wing Chun emphasizes aggressive, direct/scientific movement and realistic training. It has been taught and integrated into the training programs of hundreds of military & law enforcement agencies around the world such as the US Navy Seals, the FBI, CIA, the French RAID, German SEK units.
If you can open your mind up to it, Wing Chun can easily influence every aspect of your life. The concepts and philosophies found through Wing Chun training bring about a new way of looking at life's challenges. They help you to deal with situations in whole new way - things you just don't find in other activities!
Wing Chun is also the art that shaped the life philosophy of Bruce Lee. Many of his personal quotes came directly from Wing Chun concepts. What Bruce Lee, like other students of Wing Chun, learned is much more than just physical movements. He learned the spiritual essence of the art as well as the deep philosophical teachings.
Sifu Bill Graves is a certified instructor under Karl Godwin and has practiced wing chun for 30 yrs. Graves has 6 successful senior students with schools in Florida, Georgia, California and Texas (DR. SCOTT MULLEN). Also, Sifu Graves teaches students in Zurich, Switzerland.
Ving Tsun: Dr.SCOTT MULLEN similarly to Wong Shun Leung aka:"King of Talking Hands" had many of fights. Dr. Scott Mullen fought many 'tough' and 'strong' guy's in New York @ a place called RIKERS ISLAND :) Dr. Scott Mullen comes from a strong Wing Chun lineage. Lineage: Yip Man -> Leung Sheung -> Kenneth Chung -> Ben Der -> Ken Werner -> Karl Godwin> Bill Graves > Sifu Scott Mullen (1 of 6 of Bill Graves students)
“The best form of self-defense is to become invisible...
If you can't do that learn Wing Chun!” - Wong Shun Leung
Wong Shun Leung was a Chinese martial artist from Hong Kong who studied wing chun kung fu under Yip Man and is credited with training Bruce Lee. Wong reportedly won at least 60, and perhaps over 100, street fights against martial artists of various styles. Due to his reputation, he came to be known as 'Gong Sau Wong' ('King of Talking Hands').
Ving Tsun: There is no PROOF like Personal PROOF. Walk into a Wing Chun school challenge the teacher POLITELY mind you. Test your Jiu Jitsu, Muay Tai, Kempo, Taekwondo, open hand Kali/ Escrima/Pekiti Tursha, Krav Maga, etcetera. Only do this if you are decently proficient. If you need a video. Make your own video versus Wing Chun (a seasoned fighter not a 6 month trained student). Be nice now :) Wing Chun Dr. SCOTT MULLEN is a good place for you to start your challenges :)
Good day. Hey we all have our experiences..Some people have witnessed small people win fights against very large 'fighters.' Some people have seen 'ineffective arts' being effectively used in a fight without rules. When a person first starts out learning (using her/his brain) to understand the fighting concepts and how she/he may implement those concepts; the person picks up a book or other source. Books really give you the science and Wing Chun is scientifically more efficient
In Ving Tsun we say a STRAIGHT LINE BEATS A CIRCLE
Ving Tsun saying: We don't wrestle a wrestler, we don't box a boxer, and we don't kick with kickers. When we fight we see all fighters as fighting Ving Tsun. If the fighter is fighting with circular motions we say that is ineffective versus my straight punch...thus we punch straight over and over, we simultaneously destroy the structureof the person (that is if the person even has her/ his root firmly planeted in mother earth).. A lil esoteric
Asking "Does Wing Chun require eye, groin, and throat attacks to work? Would you lose if you couldn't do those things?" This is LIKE asking A ground fighter can you Submit me if we don't allow you to fight on the ground ? If I am doing Wing Chun then I'm DOING WING CHUN CONCEPTS: EYE THROAT GROIN..if you can't handle that the DON'T FIGHT A seasoned WING CHUN PERSON because you going have to deal with protecting ALL your VITALLY EXPOSED AREAS..:) Joke of a question
ARC beats a CIRCLE (example: a Hook the way 'IRON' Mike Tyson throws hooks will beat a circular punch the way a Cowboy throws in a bar fight)...STRAIGHT LINE beat an ARC (example: the straight punch of Yip Man- Bruce Lee's Master- would throw a straight punch against an ARC punch from a boxer. Remember folks: an Arc beats a Circle and a Straight punch beats an Arc. Wing Chun (not the Female but the system) deals with beating CIRCULAR Motions and beating ARC's (not NOAH's.lol) SuperiorLeverage

Wing Chun Kung Fu is based on efficiency and attacking vital areas that are RED FLAGS in competition fighting. Check out the WING CHUN COMPENDIUM for a better grasp of the craft. Relaxation is a must to use WING CHUN effectively. Good day folks.
TRY THIS LITTLE EXERCISE Continued... Which drawing was fastest for you. Okay now with the same motions or shapes do this exercise. Have someone time you for one minute. Punch only using circular motions like a cowboy in a bar fight, next punch using arc's like a boxer's hook punch (like Iron Mike Tyson), lastly use a straight punch like Yip Man's Ving Tsun Punch. How many punches did your friend tally for each motion? Your RESULTS REVEAL your most efficient motion: Circle, Arc, Straight Punch
TRY THIS LITTLE EXERCISE: Use a piece of white typing paper (8½ by 11 inch typing paper) for three separate drawings. Using half the paper draw a circle on one paper, next draw an arc on another paper approximately the same in inches of your circle drawing, lastly draw a straight line approx. the same in inches as both your circle and that of your arc drawing. Have someone time the amount of seconds it takes to draw each drawing. Notice which drawing is fastest? Circle, Arc, or Straight Line?
take the shortest, most direct path, and take time to learn to do it efficiently and effectively. Nah, no merit in that at all. It must all be crap and the world's best fighters only exist in the UFC. What else would motivate anybody besides a trophy and a lucrative sponsorship?
@diablodiablodiablo Actually, in the end it comes to what will save your ass on the street. Not the ring or some birdcage! It depends on the individual's ability to defend them self in the most effective manner possible. Martial arts is not about sport fighting in a ring or birdcage, but warfare and survival. I get so tired of this arrogant, cocky, wannabe tough guy attitude from a lot of you MMA guys!
@KungFuKid1015 Warfare and survival, street? easy, get a gun. But seriously I think we’re all talking about sports here. Sorry if I sounded cocky. All i say is get in the ring, prove yourself and your discipline, plain and simple. Cheers.
@diablodiablodiablo You're cool. But there is a slight difference. People who do sport fighting, train for sport fighting. So they have to abide by guidelines, rules, etc. People who train for realistic self defense, will train with weapons, guns, knives, and unarmed combat. Then you have the traditional martial artists, who train to learn the art, which is sometimes hurtful. I say combine all three. That's what I do anyway.
@MacFlanahan I'm not trying to say they can't defend themselves. I am just pointing out the ridiculous argument that so many have about martial arts being useless unless it's in a cage! It's foolish and childish! It is not the arts themselves that make the fighters tough, but their training. However, their training is also sport based. They train for sport. They have to abide by certain rules and regulations. But, I am sure they can defend themselves.
@MacFlanahan And to be honest, me too! But you won't find that. You may find people sparing or engaging in a full contact fight, because many people video tape those things. However, a real street fight, where there is a danger or surprise attack, very few people are gonna video tape it. This is the problem people have. They think that because we live in a modern age that everything will be on camera. Not the case.
I had to roll my eyes at bullshido sometimes. It's the fighter; not the style. It seems like bullshido loves to use mma as a reference that equates to street combat (notice I said street combat not street fight). Looks like another group of holier than thou attitudes.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Wing Chun sucks.
Most useless, ineffective martial art in the world.
Can't believe people still believe into this donkey shit and spend hundreds and thousands of dollars learning this ridiculous bullshit.
I love this video.
It clearly debunks all their useless demonstrations and techniques. Not only Beneteau but so many average fighters have debunked it.
EdDy4RheelZ 2 weeks ago
No shame losing to benetau he was a tough fighter in the early days. You know I still enjoy these Bullshido guys. Talking about "Effective" and "Real" martial arts, yet every video they post is under controlled rules with gloves and shin guards and what not. When these kids start releasing some Backyard, Bareknuckle, Kimbo slice style videos i will give them credit. Until then, they are just more wheels on a bandwagon.
corkyfraud 2 weeks ago

(BREAK'N NEWS FOUND in NO RULES' ARENA')

TheLukeylala 4 weeks ago
@TheLukeylala Krav Maga and other styles are almost opposite to what Wing Chun teaches. Krav Maga and other styles don't worry about centerline or much trapping. They use full hip rotation and spar regularly. The similarties are few and the differences are many.
Please post the link of the MMA knife fail.
MMA works.
There's TONS of video of it working on the street and against decent fighters. Some of it against people with weapons.
There's NONE of Wing Chun doing the same.

jamespohh 2 weeks ago
@jamespohh If a 'style' is preferring some techniques over others, mma is DEFINITELY a Style.
MacFlanahan 2 weeks ago
@MacFlanahan no imbecile...preferring something over others is simply a personal choice. If that were the case any idiot, like you, could "prefer" stuff and call it a style.
I never said I was a chunner did I? Why don't you knock on boxing then because it doesn't defend against a knife? Stinking moron....
jamespohh 2 weeks ago
@jamespohh so what makes something a 'Style'?
MacFlanahan 2 weeks ago
@MacFlanahan A style has definitive lineage along with concepts and principles and a catalog of techniques that is uniquely different from anything else. New information. They don't change at the base level but they can change with time at the overall level. All schools have to share this common ground and teaching structure. It isn't a matter of personal preference like MMA, which is a combat sport steeped with regulations and protective equipment.
jamespohh 2 weeks ago
@jamespohh Interesting. So can you name the lineage of Boxing? How about Muay Thai? Can you name the lineage of Wrestling? Speaking of wrestling, there's tons of different types of wrestling: there's Greco-Roman, and Folk, and Freestyle. They vary pretty significantly but they are all wrestling. Do you seriously think they are not 'Styles'?
MacFlanahan 2 weeks ago
@MacFlanahan Why do I need to name the lineage? You can research the historical roots of boxing, wrestling and Muay Thai on your own. Wrestling is the umbrella term that covers them all but they can be broken down into their own individual component styles. I never said they weren't styles. In the same sense kickboxing is an umbrella term that covers any style that kicks and punches - Muay Thai, Sanshou, Lethwei, etc. It can also refer to the sport and the rules dictated.
jamespohh 2 weeks ago
@jamespohh Yep. The lineages of many styles are unclear. For every style there was a creator. Someone (or some people) who already knew some other styles and created their own new take on how to fight
MacFlanahan 2 weeks ago
@MacFlanahan They're not that unclear. There are many old historical records, drawings, evidence to trace back to. Yet they each evolved with their own unique and distinct flavor of combat expression. A BJJ stylist is always going to look like a BJJ stylist. A Savateur is always going to look like a Savateur. A "MMA" person can be anything, a karateka, a sanda fighter, a thai boxer with cross training in some form of grappling. No two are alike. It's hardly a concrete style.
jamespohh 2 weeks ago
@jamespohh Absurd. While you can combine many things into MMA, a skilled MMA fighter will look like a skilled MMA fighter. If you know of another style (other than pankration) that has such an even mixture of striking, takedowns, and submissions, please list it.
Otherwise, MMA is a unique 'Style'
MacFlanahan 2 weeks ago
@MacFlanahan MMA competition is not even unique LOL. Japanese did it and called it "shooto". Yet Shooto is not a style. Vale Tudo existed for ages in Brazil but it's not a style ya dope. It's a type of sport competition that allows standing and ground techniques and so by definition anybody can throw anything together to remain competitive. I mean my God, if I threw together some basic Judo and wrestling and called it BJJ ppl will have my head LOL. Get real.
jamespohh 2 weeks ago
@jamespohh Vale Tudo, Shooto, UFC, Pride,... these are all just locations (and sets of rules) by which one fights.
The 'Style' of fighting is MMA.
MacFlanahan 2 weeks ago
@MacFlanahan K-1 is the "MMA" version of stand up fighting styles. Thai boxers, Karatekas, Kung fu stylists, Kenpo stylists, Kickboxers, boxers, etc can enter K-1 to test their skills. Does that make "K-1" a style? No.
jamespohh 2 weeks ago
@jamespohh the style they use in K-1 is kickboxing (mostly). Outside of Pankration, can you name another style that uses an equal misture of strikes, takedowns, and submissions? If not, the name of the new mixture of tecniques used is 'MMA'
MacFlanahan 2 weeks ago
@MacFlanahan Equal mixture? What defines equal? Filipino martial arts incorporates strikes, weaponry, grappling, locks and submissions. But it's not "MMA" is it? Same with Sambo or Jujutsu or Hapkido. So would Bujinkan taijutsu and many styles of Silat. I'd throw JKD in but isn't even a style but a training method and philosophy. Each has their own techniques, structure and evolved with new unique information, not just a mish mash of one's preferences.
jamespohh 2 weeks ago
@jamespohh EXACTLY!! Al these styles contain the elements of striking, grappling, and submissions, BUT THEY ARE NOT MMA!!
MMA is a unique 'Style'
It varies from person to person, but there are clearly some techniques favored over others.
MacFlanahan 2 weeks ago
@MacFlanahan Exactly what? I've already listed a good number of them. All of them have evolved in their own right to be truly unique in their own right. MMA isn't a style, it's just a mashup of stuff any schlub can put together for the purposes of sport combat. It's called training in more than one style. There is nothing new about that as it has been done for ages. There are no new unique ideas or techniques to be found.
jamespohh 2 weeks ago
@jamespohh MANY styles that currently exist have are mashups of earlier ones.
No.
A style is just a preference for certain things over others.
Whether it's painting, or music, or martial arts.
MacFlanahan 2 weeks ago
@MacFlanahan Uh no. If anything MMA is an umbrella term for different organizations and their combat sports out there. Not a style. A MIX of martial styles. It has no new information, no distinctness, no unified techniques, nothing we have never seen before in other styles. It has no lineage other than someone coining the term "MMA". Styles are distinct from other styles, but there is little deviation within the style. MMA is not like that. It's all different per person.
jamespohh 2 weeks ago

MacFlanahan 2 weeks ago
@MacFlanahan And yet even though a style is a preference, you tell other people that there preference is wrong and useless? That's just immature. And umm, yeah there should be evidence of it working considering what we do is very similar to Judo grappling.......
TheLukeylala 1 week ago
@TheLukeylala Yep.
I ABSOLUTELY tell chunners that their preference is not wise.
I would also tell competitive swimmers that running backwards is not wise.
I would tell competitive high-jumpers that jumping face forward is not wise.
I would tell competitive swimmers that swimming with a backstroke during the freestyle is not wise.
This isn't me 'limiting someone free expression' or not 'using what is right for the situation'
Some techniques are simply better than others.

It can't.

@TheLukeylala No. Judo and Katate are martial arts that also happen to compete.
They (unlike wing chun) don't do imaginary techniques and take it on faith that it will work.
They want to test what does and doesn't work.
And because of this, the techniques that don't get weeded out.
When wing chun starts doing this regularly, it will get the silliness weeded out.
Until them no intelligent person should believe it works without proof.

TheLukeylala 4 days ago
@TheLukeylala Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. Even a Model T will get you down the road. It's not whether Wing Chun will let you beat a noob; it's whether it will allow you do win against someone decent.
Wing Chun is like the four-move-checkmate.
It will win against a noob, but centerline, trapping, vertical punching, and a square shouldered stance will only get you hurt against someone decent.
If you have proof otherwise, I'd love to see it.
Without proof, it just isn't credible.
MacFlanahan 2 days ago
@MacFlanahan What are you on about, there's nothing wrong with the centerline theory, since Krav Maga, a proven art uses it.......or vertical punching. its alot safer and more powerful to throw a punch with your thumb up than a twisted fist, quicker too(im not on about hook punches now) and you've got a much lower chance of breaking your wrist. but yeah, i dont like the stance, i'll do it to keep sifu happy but yeah, ive never liked it. And PLEASE show me evidence of an MMA street fight, cheers.

TheLukeylala 4 weeks ago
@TheLukeylala I'm glad you're ditching the stupid Wing Chun stance. Keep ditching things and you'll find you're a much better fighter.
As for going against more than one fighter, what are you going to do if one of them tries to take you down? Land a perfect knockout strike? Don't count on it.
If multiple people try to take you down, you NEED grappling to know how to defend.

TheLukeylala 2 weeks ago
@TheLukeylala If you spend you're time punching them and they're tryingto take you down, if you don't knock them out, they WILL take you down.
Defending the takedown is a massive part of grappling. So is getting up if taken down.
If you're fighting more than one person, you NEED these techniques.
MacFlanahan 2 weeks ago
@MacFlanahan Paul Vunak, a man who trains Navy Seals to KILL, KILL, uses alot of wing chun along with eskrima. from watching him on youtube, trapping does work. in the range that your trying to throw the guy of you because he has you pinned against the wall, he'll be trapping your hands and hitting you in the face with a lovely bony elbow, a good hit to your Adam's apple and punching your face in. The only people who dont like Wing Chun are people who have never done it before, or sucked at it.
TheLukeylala 2 weeks ago
@TheLukeylala Heh. Any empirical evidence of it ever happening. I'd love to see that clip.

In case we're unclear, demos don't count. Resisting and/or skilled opponents only.
MacFlanahan 2 weeks ago
@MacFlanahan Go ask for a fight with him or anyone he's ever trained, and im sure you'll see it work. Also, the government asked HIM, not an MMA trainer to train there special forces. And if you've ever seen a chunner get beaten, its probably in the ring right? on the other fighters terms. Ive never seen it the other way round, on the chunners terms.

@TheLukeylala Asking him for a fight would be 'Anecdotal' evidence.
Do you REALLY not understand the difference between anecdotal evidence and empirical evidence?
MacFlanahan 2 weeks ago
@MacFlanahan Anecdotal is more like someone saying something happened or you experienced it,even though it may be true you cant be sure that it is and Empirical is seeing the evidence, such as youtube. But if you did ask for a no holds bar fight with him, then posted your messed up face on youtube, then that would be some good evidence. And all these vids show BAD Wing chunners, if you saw alot of people playing a sport really bad would you assume that everyone that played that sport was bad?
TheLukeylala 1 week ago
@TheLukeylala No, anecdotal evidence is notoriously bad.
If you have empirical evidence of 'good' wing chun please post it.
Until you can provide empirical evidence, it has all the credibility of bigfoot, faerries, ghosts, and all the other thing supported only by anecdotal evidence.
MacFlanahan 1 week ago
@MacFlanahan And you seem to thing that i dont deal with grappling AT ALL. we cover grappling in our class, once we get to that range, and use submission techniques such as arm lock while disabling a leg etc.

@TheLukeylala Sounds awesome. Any evidence of it reliably working in a fight?

There are some examples of people winning, but it's rare. watch?v=BdyD4Qceo2A
There are ZERO examples of Wing Chun winning vs. a weapon.
MacFlanahan 2 weeks ago

Wing Chun allows people to...
Borrow an attacker's force and turn it back against them
Gain strategic control of an attacker from the moment of the first touch
Fire rapid punches like a machine gun
Close the gap quickly, jam up an attacker, and neutralize their ability to fight
Defend with the brain not the brawn, defeating even a larger, stronger attacker using superior techniques

Wong Shun Leung was a Chinese martial artist from Hong Kong who studied wing chun kung fu under Yip Man and is credited with training Bruce Lee. Wong reportedly won at least 60, and perhaps over 100, street fights against martial artists of various styles.

In the end it all comes to this: GET IN THE RING.
diablodiablodiablo 2 months ago
@diablodiablodiablo Actually, in the end it comes to what will save your ass on the street. Not the ring or some birdcage! It depends on the individual's ability to defend them self in the most effective manner possible. Martial arts is not about sport fighting in a ring or birdcage, but warfare and survival. I get so tired of this arrogant, cocky, wannabe tough guy attitude from a lot of you MMA guys!
KungFuKid1015 2 months ago
@KungFuKid1015 Warfare and survival, street? easy, get a gun. But seriously I think we’re all talking about sports here. Sorry if I sounded cocky. All i say is get in the ring, prove yourself and your discipline, plain and simple. Cheers.
diablodiablodiablo 2 months ago
@diablodiablodiablo You're cool. But there is a slight difference. People who do sport fighting, train for sport fighting. So they have to abide by guidelines, rules, etc. People who train for realistic self defense, will train with weapons, guns, knives, and unarmed combat. Then you have the traditional martial artists, who train to learn the art, which is sometimes hurtful. I say combine all three. That's what I do anyway.
KungFuKid1015 2 months ago
@KungFuKid1015 People who do MMA have full knowledge of self-defense. Most of them did TMA before they switched.
MacFlanahan 2 months ago
@MacFlanahan I'm not trying to say they can't defend themselves. I am just pointing out the ridiculous argument that so many have about martial arts being useless unless it's in a cage! It's foolish and childish! It is not the arts themselves that make the fighters tough, but their training. However, their training is also sport based. They train for sport. They have to abide by certain rules and regulations. But, I am sure they can defend themselves.
KungFuKid1015 2 months ago
@KungFuKid1015 If you can find video of WIng Chun working on the street against someone decent, I'd love to see it.
Until you do, it lacks credibility in either locale.
MacFlanahan 2 months ago
@MacFlanahan And to be honest, me too! But you won't find that. You may find people sparing or engaging in a full contact fight, because many people video tape those things. However, a real street fight, where there is a danger or surprise attack, very few people are gonna video tape it. This is the problem people have. They think that because we live in a modern age that everything will be on camera. Not the case.
