Dont think its a CHEK press as, with the hip thrust its putting quite a lot of sheer force through the lumbar spine, and with the increased ant. tilt of the pelvis the tva is harder to recruit.
Not critising in any way though. Very good exercise!
This guy is my favorite UFC fighter. Representing all the vegan/vegetarian in the MMA. I'll incorporate this Check push press in my work workouts from now on. Never thought about it actually. Thanks for the tips.
as a vegan, I'm with you. Mac Danzig rocks too. I just worry about Luke in the sense that his LifeFood diet and fasts are a bit extreme. I saw him last month live in Columbus, and he looked a bit lethargic.
Please elaborate on what your interpretation of what a CHEK Press is since there seems to be a few variations depending on the underlying reasoning. Paul Chek himself modified the "Arnold Press" to stimulate more shoulder girdle involvement. As long as your elbows are moving in & out at the bottom & top of the movement, scapular and thoracic musculature are more involved than a standard shoulder press. BTW - Are you a CHEK Practitioner and what level? Just curious.
I guess technically one could call it a variation but it looks more like a "push" press to me. I'm a level 1, but I sent this to a fiend who's a long time "Cheky," he sais more or less the same thing.
not a check press!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're correct. You can also call it a "CHEK Push Press" if you'd like.
