GM was given a $49.5 Billion taxpayer funded bailout. Only $6.7B of this was a pure loan, the taxpayers purchased 60.8% equity in GM, meanwhile Canada ALSO transferred an additional $9.5 billion to GM, $1.4B was a loan and $8.1B is an equity purchase.

ObaMao gave GM $13.4B MORE taxpayer aid money as "working capital" to pay back the government loan.

The Treasury Department got $11.7B back from GM's IPO.

GM was NOT bailed out, the Collectivist UAW Union was.

Also i 100% agree, free market capitalism is great. But when a huge corporation begins to fall apart due to corruption in a way that will channel billions of dollars per year into foreign markets, & meanwhile our economy is already in a downspiral?

The idea (i hope) is to eventually restore the free market. Until then, though, we have to stay afloat in a global market.

Perhaps the bankruptcy laws should have been honored and GM allowed to break into seperate parts including Chevy, Buick etc. The employees would have kept their jobs and the companies would be allowed to renegotiate with the unions or maybe even get rid of that anchor.

Instead those corrupt crony-corporatist polticians gave GM $Billions of "other people's money" just to keep the unions happy. This is NOT fair to all those competitors and everyone else who playes by the rules.

Why does GM keep bashing electric vehicles? Why do they insist on emphasizing how the Volt is better than every other EV out there. Why not explain why it's better than a gasoline powered car. The cars that most people are driving now.
