I have had a cleft palate repair and extensive speech therapy. It is all worth it in the end, and no one will ever kno! :P Hearing problems are the most annoying side affect I think. x
bethanyleebumblebee i am really interested how old were you when you had your operation to fix the cleft palate and how much it cost and what kind of operation you got ?and tell me how old were you during your sessions with the therapist in the course of your life the reason i ask is because my child was born with a cleft palate and i want your experiences i rwould really apreciatted it thank you
I was 8 months old when i had a soft palate repair. There is still a very tiny hole at the back that I cannot feel, but surgeons confirm is there. I live in Australia, and the government pay all costs of cleft palate repairs. I began speech therapy casually age 3 and finished at 13. No more lisp!
Man Each child is different though, and if I had a child born with a cleft, I'd love them all the more!
Just be conscious of any hearing difficulties, as this is linked to clefts.
Hi Sir, i have my cleft palate. When i was a baby my mom told me that when i sip the milk, the milk went out from my nose. But i have no deform outside of my nose or mouth. It is inside my mouth that has a deform. It's in the upper part. My question is, do you think i can speak clearly once i will be operated? Philippines
if you will be operated infact it is acording to your faringeal muscules position and growth,you can speek as well.the reason depend on ultimate surgery and it must be just not far
i had my operation when i was in high school. Then i still can't speak well. So what do you think is the problem with it? they've told me that this is only a minor operation. But why i cannot still i cannot talk well or atleast 95% is fixed. Do you think i will need to have another operation? I never been with speech therapy here. So do you think i need to go this extensive therapy? Ok thanks...
phtubesam08 i am very interested in what you had or still have dificulties you say you have problems with some words what are the words you find dificult to pronounce?? and how old are you??and what other problems?? the reason i ask is because my child was born like you only with the cleft palate and i want your experiences so i can treat my child in the future and yes i am plan to have him operate when he reaches 1 year old and have speech therapy but i want your experiences thank you
claudias1871, yeah i still have a problems with my speech. For example good, zigzag, and dig. So i am 28 yr. old now. Do you think i can still talk good? So what is the best remedy for this? i've been with operation but still i have speech defect. So please give me some help i want to be fixed. Thanks guys!
