James is right. The people pushing this stuff just never learn. There are better things we could be focusing on instead, like faster interplanetary travel, cheaper supersonic air travel, cheaper/faster networks (10Gb Ethernet for the price of 1Gb now, etc), free electricity for everyone, holographic displays (true "glasses free 3D"), hoverboards, Cyberlimbs that work just like the meat counterpart, CyberOptics with enhancements, CyberAudio similarly enhanced, etc, etc.
I know people will actually think i am crazy ... But this is not AI .. Its only lot of code that make him learn and understand ... Really AI is when a Computer will have Emotion . Give it twenty years and technology will make these robots so advanced and human like you'll hardly be able to tell the difference. Look at what Hanson Robotics came out with.
@CJBroesky i agree with you 110%, im will be studying a.i myself after a levels and this already progressing to a whole new diffrente level, its one of the most high in demand sectors in the i.t field and its so big that theyre even going to make a masters programme on robotics alone. And i will be doing that course :D
Did anyone else notice that when he shows it the mini cooper and tells Asimo that its a mini cooper, and Asimo responds "mini pooper?" another little box to show his focus (what he's thinking about) appears over James May's pooper? Its like it heard the word pooper and looked for any poopers that May could have been talking about.
@Xtclilium He did indeed say that. ASIMO is capable of recognising general objects such as cars, people etc. He didn't learn what the Mini Cooper was, but by reflecting on his prior knowledge, he was able to guess that it was a car, and so he said "maybe, toy car?".
If a soul is a speck of light, then so it is an object of conscious thought, same as a being of adaptive intelligence, not artificial. Once an intelligence is capable of mastering dimensional concepts, it is capable of existing in multiple dimensions so it is a simple process of dividing conscious thought in to a multiplication of awareness in to a more compact form. That is the true building blocks of consciousness.
Why do I have the feeling that this is old news. Yes it is an achievement, go further and give it what all artificial intelligent beings lack both in science fiction and in real life, the ability for independent creativity, in other words, your teaching it logic, but not feeling, it is the combination of these two principles in equal order that define what it means to be conscious and aware of what is around you at all times.
@LondonStudentTV I suggest you to read the compilation book "Perspectives on the Computer Revolution" by Zenon W. Pylyshyn and in particular the title "The destruction of the machines of Erewhon" by Samuel Blutter. Maybe it can helps you a little bit about not to fear machines ;)

@cuteseesamantha Both of the statements "we DO know about all of these concepts" and "the scientific paradigm has no idea" are incorrect in that they both employ the use of an absolute word. "No idea" and "all".

@Hammersley1967 What a mean argument: I have heard that MANY MANY... TIMES in my whole life long before a computer has even beaten a master chess player. They said: no computer could ever play as well as a human and now it plays better. Now you see ASIMO doing what it's doing and again a similar argument like yours is repeated on and on. The real thing is that we are NOW understanding what those concepts you named REALLY mean. Hundred years ago we couldn't fly, 42 years ago we reached the moon.
HE SAYS THE NAME OF THE OBJECT BEFORE ASKS THE THE ROBOT TO NAME IT SO HES ACTS LIKE HES TELLING U BUT TELLING THE ROBOT INSTEAD THROUGH THE HEADSET U DONT HAVE TO BE A SMART TO CATCH THAT
@SEALNAVYWAY actuall it isnt smart enough for it to understand what you are calling it when you arent telling him while showing him using the right tione and syntex so what u said is impossible
ugh..... this is not real AI ppl. this robot is just an advanced computer that can process programming codes and apply them. its still not able to create new code so it has no thoughts or human-like intelligence.
@ElanaVital83 The robots in star wars. Thats real A.I. basically, real A.I would be the ability for the robots to think for themselves, have thoughts, ideas, create a poem/song/painting, or anything else that requires creativeness and thought.
AMAZING! then I am totally sure you´ll love this one here: Search YouTube for "Stuntcat - Sandpiper Inn". It is a rascal robot from 1977 in a supercute music video!

"So your argument is again week."
All you irrelevant blather above aside...
My argument is as it always was on this thread...
The positive scientific paradigm has absolutely NO idea what consciousness is, how it operates, and how to replicate it...
As such ASIMO is merely a sophisticate piece of machinery...
It is not self aware, nor is it "intelligent"...
Hammersley1967 1 month ago
@hjoab
"what does produce consciousness? the brains"
OH REALLY!!!
Consciousness is PRODUCED by the BRAIN?
So it's a PRODUCTIVE property of the brain?
It's not an EMERGENT property of the brain?
It's not a TRANSIENT property of the brain?
And you have evidence that consciousness is produced by the brain?
In fact, it is even debated by some philosophers and neurologists as to whether the brain is the seat of consciousness at all.
But it seems that you are 100% sure...

Asimo not only recognized the chairs from the table.
He recognized the mini cooper as a toy car too. Note, he said 'maybe toy car' or 'baby toy car'

Guy: Asimo, this is a gun
Asimo: Gun...
Guy: Asimo, this is how you use it!
Asimo uses it successfully with his new modified body that withstands recoil.
Guy: VERY GOOD Asimo, now let me get some stuff from over there...
Guy unintentionally leaves gun lying near Asimo
Asimo walks over, sees it..
Asimo: Gun...
Asimo picks it up, points it at the person, and attempts to use it.
He succeeds.

Asimo isn't German. It's from Honda. Also, the voice it uses is familiar. I think I have heard the same voice that Apple uses for its IVR.

MrCooljob6 3 months ago
ugh..... this is not real AI ppl. this robot is just an advanced computer that can process programming codes and apply them. its still not able to create new code so it has no thoughts or human-like intelligence.

@yourtube2456 Hey, you seem to know about A.I. What is real A.I. then?
ElanaVital83 3 months ago
@ElanaVital83 The robots in star wars. Thats real A.I. basically, real A.I would be the ability for the robots to think for themselves, have thoughts, ideas, create a poem/song/painting, or anything else that requires creativeness and thought.

We are God in microcosm and therefore have every right to play God.
