  • My eyes ---> O_O

  • TUT PLZ?

  • plz make tut video.

  • O_O Nice! what was the render time?

  • Perhaps you could do a class... if you are in LA there are plenty of people who most likely wouldn't mind spending half a day to learn some of these tricks (or an online course).

  • @brandoncyoung Try gettin your vd in some highstreet stores, people are more likely to buy it if its there infront of them!

    good luck!!!

  • good job

  • seriusly, most realistic 3D smoke out there!

You said you were selling DVDs? Gotto check out.

    Amasing work!:)

  • i will say it look niiiiiice but was the bakeing and rendering worth it i liek seeing test videos aslong as peopel have a project to back it up wit lik blender water physics videos alot fo people spend hours makeing them with no use to use it for its a waste of time

  • anyone here who knows the link to his dvd on a torrent site? aka piratebay?

  • Looks like a gigantic grey brain.

  • luckily i know how to download youtube videos

  • why did you put this on a useless gray screen rather than a green one??

  • @nosajj12345 Not sure if complimenting the realism, or just stupid.

  • @nosajj12345 I think so no one steals it by downloading the youtube video.

  • Bro when are tutorials coming along I must have! Will buy!

  • PUT YOUR tutorials up on Lynda!

  • can i use this for some videos plz ?

  • Dude, I'm not even kidding, that looks entirely real.

  • @brandoncyoung Incredible stuff, can't wait for the dvd. Hope everything goes through a-ok with Gnomon. Have made a few decent purchases from them. Cheers!

  • dvd is on hold since gnomon never paid me for the first dvd.

  • @brandoncyoung

Looks like whats happening with the Chilean Volcano xD!

    Nice work btw!

  • @brandoncyoung Hi, I'm wondering what the DvD will cover? I have FumeFX, and I understand how to use it and how to achieve a look that I set out to achieve, however I have a problem with lighting and rendering with it. I can't get photoreal results. Will your DvD cover just Fume? Or rendering and lighting Simulations as well? If it's not a problem, could you tell me what your lighting setup is in this scene? Thank you for your help.

  • @brandoncyoung Are you selling the DVD now? I'm really interested in improving my FX skills...

  • awesome

  • Gorgeous. Bravo.

  • is that real time or slowed down?

  • ohhhh

    its just me

i had to FART SOMEWERE !!?

  • thats what i make when i smoke weed in my bedroom..

  • @nicesatu pass the marijuana

  • its in the form of a fist:P

  • AWESOME!

  • Epic

  • How do you get so much detail. My stuff is never this detailed in Maya or anyother autodesk software.

  • It wont be free... I find it an insult that anyone would even say that they think it should be just free. I provide a service that well apparent you cant achieve. I think 40 bucks for a dvd full of knowledge and files is pretty reasonable

  • @brandoncyoung , how's this DVD going?

  • @brandoncyoung

Dont get your hopes up buddy, I guarantee we'll be seeing your DVDs on torrents soon enough =). And if you decide not to sell now, well you aint the only one that can make this, bunch of tutorials out there, more to come.

  • @7SenSiz

cool if you can do it or get it elsewhere then go for it saves me a bunch of time.

  • @brandoncyoung

Found several on youtube already lol...im not sayin this to make you angry, just though you should face reality. That said doesnt mean ill be downloading your torrented dvds, ill stick to the free and legal online tutorials.

  • @brandoncyoung someone's a big dick

  • @brandoncyoung 40 bucks? holy crap lol i'll just find a torrent

  • @pokealong1227

40 bucks is incredibly cheap, allan mckay sells his dvd's for about £80+ and some tutorials on renderman were over a grand, count yourself lucky.

  • @kacktustoo torrent gives dvd's for about $0 and some tutorials were not over zero dollars, i will count myself lucky. :)

  • @pokealong1227

I would have thought there'd be some kind of moral objection there? :/

Considering he's taking the time and effort to make these, it's only fair.

  • @kacktustoo i'm just a teenager, i don't have hundreds of dollars to spend and i've got a car to save for, a computer to fix, and christmas coming up which i plan on buying gifts for my family and girlfriend. i've got more important things than to fork out $40 for a dvd on virtual smoke. He sells 2 dvds and makes $80, i make that in 2 weeks if im lucky.

  • @pokealong1227

Whoever said i'm not a teenager, saving up for a car, trying to sort out my computer, buying gifts for family and friends, yes i may not earn much but i try to buy everything i can legitimately.

And who can put a price on your future ;D

university fee's are going up to £27,000.... so.... yeah :/

  • @kacktustoo i get all A's and go to highschool through the college i want to go to. Not to mention my dad has to pay child support directly to me when i turn 18 if i go to college. And i will have a job when im 16, can't get a job around here at 15. A DVD is not my future, i actually haven't even downloaded this dvd because you can find tutorials on this stuff anywhere on the web. Finding the tutorials separate for free saves you more money than buying a dvd about it.

  • @pokealong1227

Lol i'm not saying you have to buy this when it comes out, just if you want it then it's a small price to pay, until i was 18 the only job i could get was a paper route, no joke and this was when i had tried eeeeeeeeverywhere :/

But i managed to save up for allan mckays tutorial dvd's :D

But if you want to go into a career such as this, trust me any help is far more worth it than you think, same goes for anything, but if not then there really isnt any point lol ;)

  • @kacktustoo Like i said, plenty of tutorials everywhere. "A tutorial is one method of transferring knowledge and may be used as a part of a learning process." so a tutorial helps. So yes, any help is far more with it, i already know that and already said it. And i've babysat, mowed, and taken care of dogs and i'm only 15.. if that's you only job you could find before you were 18.. then wow.

  • @pokealong1227

Yes i understand that but referring to someones tutorials as expensive then saying you'll find a torrent implies your just going to steal it, that was my point. if you wanted to find other tutorials why make the point when you could just go elsewhere easily.

I meant more a job job but i was luckey enough to cut grass, wash cars, do chores etc for years if that's what your implying.

Ps. The definaition of "tutorials" was as relevant as you taking about pies for 5 minutes

  • @kacktustoo Actually the definition was 100% relevant if you had any knowledge at all. I mentioned free tutorials and you implied that i don't think help is worth it. I showed the tutorial definition to show you that it is a form of help, and anybody with common knowledge would put the two together and realize i obviously DO realize how important help is or i wouldn't care about finding tutorials. I make about $180 a month. That's not much and i'm not blowing it on a dvd. Some tutorials are free

  • @pokealong1227

    Lol this is fun xD

*sigh* me saying the definition of "tutorials" was irrelevent was because i know what it means, not because it has nothing to do with the subject at hand.

I never said you don't understand the value of help, i'm just saying to get the knowlage and experience of a proffessional maybe it's not so bad to spend just 40 bucks, sometimes it's neccessary first hand experience is far more valuable than just knowing what something does.

woo we get a similar income.

  • @kacktustoo Okay so your right "sometimes it's neccessary first hand experience is far more valuable than just knowing what something does." so $40 is not necessary, why not just dive into the program and teach yourself? First hand experience. And if your over 18 and make $180 that's really sad haha.

  • @pokealong1227

Wow now that's just insulting lol

In my opinion teaching yourself is by far the best way to do it, but refinig those skills usually requires outside input from someone more experienced. And in most cases that experience comes at a price but you learn far more, much faster than you ever could just by yourself, it's the fundementals humans base their understanding on, passing down knowlage from one person to the next, it's much harder to start from the ground up.

  • @kacktustoo It is the fundementals humans base their understanding on, so why do they charge for it.

  • @pokealong1227

Because most things in this world arnt free ;)

  • @kacktustoo But the basic fundamentals of human understanding should be. I mean i understand if McDonald's isn't but come on...

  • @pokealong1227

Yeah i agree with what your saying and the world would be better without a sense of monetary value bit like pure communism, but it's impossible because were human, the idea of everybody helping one another for the benefit of everyone is something one can only dream of sadly, i mean in todays world lol

So trading is the best we can do.

  • @kacktustoo So true. But in my opinion, knowledge is priceless. So the fact that somebody is putting a price on it seems kind of ridiculous when one could figure it out himself and if you ran into something you didn't understand a quick google search or something could get you the answer and move on with your project. That's what i do.

  • @pokealong1227

Oh yeah in most things that's exactly what you can do, with something like this it's a bit more proffessional and complex, of course you don't have to get them but google just doesnt always have answers, you can always try forums in like cgsociety, that's usually very good, but if someone spends the time to create something, you know, they want to get something out of it, lol anyone would. It's like any kind of education even though you don't pay for schools your taxes do.

  • @brandoncyoung Mate your right these things a quiet expansive if you want to learn it in uni. Im studying 3d design and animation and it costs around 13,000 dollars for just a year and its 3 years! And i doubt anyone is gonna put this kinda stuff on torrent as its waste of talent and time which could have been payed of quiet well :)

Good job on the animation by the way looks freaking awsome!

  • I Cant wait till' the dvd comes out, I'll only get it if its free though.

  • amazing!

  • Hey, brandonyoung, how do i shade the clouds with vray? :) cus mine are just plane grey, i don't like that

  • brandon, can you share the dimensions of your fume box?

  • 24 gigs of ram... holy fuck, Me, with my measly 2 can only dream of such a project ;(

  • @ werez ur right sorry about that! its dual intel nehalems 2.66 ghz im currently working on a DVD for just fume stuff. id love to hear what everyone wants to see on the dvd. Thank you!

  • holy ficking shit

    what grid and spacing? o.O

  • A-W-E-S-O-M-E-!

  • No u cant have it... Haha.

  • could I get this in hd with transparent background?

  • WOW. thats awesome!

  • I wish Maya had this plugin

  • Hi, I could watch this over and over and over, it's so beautiful !!

I wonder, could it be possible to see this smoke column with a white back ground ?

Have a nice day, and keep up the good work !

  • im stunned just stunned

  • sorry i havent responded much.

the system is a dual quad core 24 gigs of ram.

ram doesnt speed it up, just lets you sim at a higher res. the more ram the better it looks.

this sim took around 35- 40 hours. 1000 frames.

  • @brandoncyoung Hi I'm running on a 49gb ram system with two x5650 4ghz (total threads 24) and when I am simulate a large grid res in FumeFx the memory runs out, is it possible to clear the ram while simulating?

  • This is beyond amazing I'm definatly subscribing I'm guessing this is your job or is it a hobbie O_o?

  • amazing dude, this render blows my brains out. I am struggggling to get that kind of detail. The turbulence is insane...I will fight on ;)

  • Very nice smoke loving the details, I work a lot with FumeFx as well.

I wish i had 10000€ extra money to build a monster pc.

  • Thats not fair u obviously work in the industry! These details are just perfect! try to do a composite with an image id love to see the result!

  • Whoah, it's exactly like the giant ash cloud from that one Icelandic volcano (which has a ridiculously difficult name).

  • Good work! Could you tell me what size of simulation area it was? Width,length...

  • truly amazing. great job.

  • good work buddy!.. shall be creating one like this my self tomorrow.. its going into a big project am working on.. thanks for the inspiration :)

I got the i7 @ 3.8ghz but only 6gig ram so I wont be doing it as detailed as yours! :P

  • what do you recommend to do if my scene is very small. my fumefx just doesnot creat that much detail. I sim about 200-300mb memory

  • Amazing!!! you got yourself a new subscriber!

  • breathtaking work, can you tell me what goes into making some of these simulations on your channel, there amazing

  • your stuff just keeps getting more and more insane...this looks incredible :)

  • the machine it was simmed on is a dual quad core hyper threaded i7 3.0 ghz 24 gigs of ram.

rendering took about 7 mins a frame.. it took about 40 + hours to sim. it was 1000 frame sim. the actualy render took a couple seconds its all the shadow calculation!

  • im looking to build an 8 core machine, what motherboard would you suggest?

  • @brandoncyoung does having more RAM equate to faster sim times or is there a limit, or am I just missing something in general.

  • @brandoncyoung i7 has only one QPI link and can't work in dual CPU configuration.

  • holy balls, are you doing this for a movie or something? bet this took weeks!

  • Amazing. This looks absolutely fantastic. What specs are you running on, and how long did it take to simulate and render?
