It's not about being "fruity". It does seem pretty touching but I've noticed that people look at each other when they haven't practiced a particular song together and they end up doing a duet. Look at the end of this video as well and Eddie sang an extra "don't lose" where David didn't. So he looked at him. In the movie, I think that it happened because they were mimicking how they watched each other. Remember they were most switching members throughout. A few parts were dramatizations.
