  • Not an engineer, but I challenge anyone hating on them to get off their butts and try to do half the things engineers have to do while not enjoying the benefits they have brought to their lives. Your very existence has brought about the standards they have to adhere to. They have to make ALL of us happy.

  • The engineer handles himself like the robotic engineer types I've met. The Standard. The Standard. Fuck the Standard. It is just an expensive way of ruining the quality of life which already there.

  • fuckin civil engineers are sooooooooo annoying

  • I recall a Penndot meeting like this. Typical NIMBY response by local residents to a by the book answers from a Traffic Engineer. How many times can A guy say " to meet the standard?"

  • How can anyone be that stupid??? lol

  • Holy shit, this conversation is so annoying its hilarious haha

  • Dude, a crummy commercial?

  • I thought the engineer was pretty sensible for most of it

  • Wow, deja vu... I had this conversation before... They completely messed up the traffic patterns in my area.

  • woman-1 engineer-0

  • moral hazard 101

  • Intelligent people are often really brain dead.

  • @Esoparagon They usually only appear that way because so many people around them are too dumb to understand what they are talking about.

  • @EmperorofCartoons No, I find many of their opinions to be void of rationality and insight when they express them. Although, I am aware of the phenomena of smart people seeming like crazy people to dumb people. I'm very personally aware lol.

  • The standard is safe because the standard is the standard and it's not safe unless it's the standard.

  • Conversation with a government employee.....

  • I am with the resident, the engineer is a fool that works for an over bloated government agency that wants to legislate urban planning, very sad and very real. Are are working for them, are you one of them?

  • Check these short skits as well!

  • m8 im doing that one next lol

  • @Lexs you are right. This was awesome.

  • the woman is stupid.

  • @PlatinumHexafluoride Your comment is about as useful as your name.

  • @PlatinumHexafluoride You're the one that is stupid; the home-owner is the smart one.

  • I clicked on this video thinking it was an engineer hating his job because people cant understand simple things such as flattening a street. Turns out that i just wasted 8 minutes of my life. holy shit hahah

  • @crusader84941 If you watched the whole video, and couldn't figure out the meaning of the discussion, you don't have any brains to begin with, thus - your life was a waste before you got here.

  • Here's an engineer with no common sense.

  • Catch twenty-friggin'-two.

  • I could listen to the engineer bear repeat "deficiencies" alllll day.

  • I feel for the white bear thingy.:(

  • OK, how old is this woman? She says she has lived at that house for 30 years and has kids “old enough” to be playing outside in her yard unsupervised and she still has a child she needs to pull around in a stroller. She also complains about making investments that will pay off for 10 to 15 years. To that I say, why have children? Most of them won’t “pay off” for at least 20 years if at all. She also thinks she is so self important that if she doesn’t go across the street to the businesses

  • @canon914 Actually, she is complaining about investments that won't give any (as in $0) returns over the course of 10 to 15 year, then after that time they start paying taxes (but by that time the roads in the new section of town will probably be needing repairs so overall they won't contribute anything but will actually cost the town money). The business will close because nobody would walk across the 4-lane high traffic street, once you're driving you'll probably go to a larger store.

  • Seems like "talk with an engineer" should be replaced with "talk with a city planner or administrator". Most of the talk is about tax subsidy areas assessment etc.

Yes, determining road safety is an engineering responsibility. It should be noted that the Netherlands are abandoning the "forgiving highway" (north american approach) for the "self explaining road" (i.e. reducing clear zone)

so engineering safety doesn't mean turning all into highways.

  • So many mayor's offices could learn from this video........

  • At some point, you have to shoot the engineers and start production.

  • This is funny and sad.....

  • booooooring

  • CRAP THIS IS SO SHIT

  • This sooooo depressing..I think changing my major to astronomy..

  • cool,can yall see mine

  • I wish school learning was more like this, I understand this movies so well! :/

  • i made a couple of funny ass videos using animation go see them on my channel

  • /watch?v=OTvSGXLRVHI WAYYY FUNNIER LOLLLLL

  • @oldmanjoenotold2 no it's not ignore this fool

  • Notice: There's no street.

  • I have my own video: Train Incident: The Homeboyz conversation.

    Please view it.

  • I love it.

  • i love it.

  • This video should have been called "Conversation with a Beaurocrat".

  • streets arent supposed to be flat.. then they'd flood...

  • Who cares if they drive fast -.- its doesnt increase chance of crashing or anything...

  • @NaomiWillett We should all care if the cars drive fast. Speed is the primary factor in determining if a pedestrian will die in a crash. At 20 MPH most pedestrians will survive. At 40 MPH most pedestrians will die. But the 40 MPH road will meet the standards.

  • But... i dont see a road... there just standing on grass...

  • "slowing down the cars would not be safe" lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ha ha ha.

    oh geez

    truthknowledge. com

  • Dude I'm leaving.

  • first i understand dilbert cartoons now this...

    man im getting old =/

  • how does it improve safety to have a drag strip out my from door hahaha

  • Woman: "Do you understand, that my children play in this clear zone?"

Engineer: "I would not recommend that..."

    LOL

  • @10101110101111111111 How long do you take to log in to YouTube?

  • @GODOFWAR11911 715775 seconds, apparently.....

  • after a certain point you can't be any more clear in explaining lol

  • This has little to do with engineering.

This is all urban planning and department of transportation.

My father, uncle, wife, son, cousins, and friends are engineers.

Most engineers I know think the WA department of transportation should be dis banned and rebuilt from scratch.

Stop go traffic can be calculated by the interest on the money per square foot of freeway compared to the average gas tax per vehicle per day.

    We need cheaper freeways.

  • Andy's bullshit.

  • @TheKrustaceox Sexist.

  • worst advertisement ever

  • should of known it was gonna be a woman

  • @tropicallanterns Sexist.

  • i thought this was making fun of homeowners. so confused. video should've been "designed" better.

  • That was boring

  • I get it. I guess you need to understand the relationship between engineers and customers.

  • 0:15 - 0:26 NERD

  • just as mind numbing as an actual conversation with an engineer. And just as impossible to show him how his ideas conflict with reality

  • just as mind numbing as an actual conversation with an engineer.

  • typical conversation between a man and a woman.

  • @joester013 you mean the man is unnecessarily complicating things because he's a corporate drone and the woman just wants to leave things the way they are because they work?

    you man-hater

  • so funny XD i love it

  • I won't pretend there isn't bad city planning.

If you won't pretend peoples desire to live in small suburban communities and commute to work doesn't create traffic congestion.

  • I will go to the website it suggested

  • In other words the Mayor wants a kick back from the Township Engineers he hired for the last year and give the illusion he is spending the tax payer money effectively . The sale of firewood will go to someone and not even be in the specs. Plus the increase in storm water will be ignored as the local streams get more erosion and pollution. We are widening the New Jersey Turnpike to the tune of 2.5 billion dollars. Can you imagine the kickbacks going on there. This video is accurate.

  • that voice! can't get it out of my head! somebody please make them stop!!!

  • I don't think the bad reviews this video gets are deserved. I agree that the video took a bit long to get to the point, but the problem discussed here is one that has been recognized by many urban planners - that neighborhoods and property values suffer as streets are converted to highways, and the benefits are at times minimal or nonexistent, so 50 years down the road they will be spending government money again to take the same highway back out again (ex: the I-93)

  • the funniest thing about this is that someone actually put effort into it and thinks they can stop the project. annoying soccer mom strikes again!

  • What a biased load of crap. The homeowner is not only portrayed as ignorant and naive, but short-sighted and narrow-minded. It was completely surprising when they ended up trying to spin it so that SHE looked like the protagonist. How ridiculous.

  • 23 people haven't owned their own homes or had children yet.

  • @brandonp4 ...or were expecting something funny.

  • @brandonp4 this is the most stupid comment I've seen in a while...

  • U should watch milky and friends its a pawz movie butFUNNY

  • watch my first vid :P Its funny :P

  • BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

  • Here an awesome cartoon too: /watch?v=KinBZd2pRHw

  • I am an engineer and don't find this funny...

  • @sainta09 I am studying to be an engineer and find this hilarious because it shows how little critical thinking most people have.

  • is this Microsoft Sam?

I'm just asking because maybe we can use this voice style to translate shows in foreign country's like China by hooking into the closed captioning system that is already in place and then converting those words written in Chinese into english (or some other language) words that it would then say out of a speaker.

Or maybe just translating the words as they are being said.

    But thats just me.

  • Did i just watch this and spent dear 8 minutes of my life for this?

    bullshit

  • this presentation basically makes the street safe for cars and dangerous for everyone else.

  • stupid standerds

  • how cute :o

  • this is rediculous!

  • The flip side of this? The engineers who push for such idiocies as lowering the radius of traffic circles "because it will make things more dangerous, so the drivers have to slow down"..

  • So you GONNA make the street more safe, And how do you Gonna make the street more safe?

  • So true -- "By then the grocery still will be turned into a Dollar Store and there will be a new tax subsidy zone!"

  • watch mine :) /watch?v=XAQi-81cecs&feature=channel_video_title

  • Sounds just like my engineering professors....

In other words, they make no fucking sense.

It seems like they have ideas that can improve a person's quality of life, but in truth it's just bullshit and alot of time and money wasted.

  • this took WAY too long.

  • 25 feet.....You understand this is my entire front yard?

  • OMG This is hilarious! That doggie asks a LOT of questions!

  • This doesn't make sense...a house can't be less than a hundred feet from the road. The clear zone must be at least one quarter of the average distance between the houses and the road.

  • This would be more convincing if the resident weren't an idiot.

  • THE STANDARD IS TEH BROKE!

  • They "improved" my town by ripping up the asphalt of all the major intersections and laying decorative tiles--like cobblestone. This took years. It created huge traffic problems and people went bankrupt from having their businesses cut off from customers. And all we've got to show from it now are BUMPY intersections. Every time I drive over the bumps I think of the horrible price we paid on some idiot's whim.

  • Bernake / Obama 2012...WOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!!

  • Man, all politicians are like this >.<

  • Hey how did you move their heads like that. I just made one and they have no expression or aything but it is very good other then that. I have other videos if you guys can check em out too.

  • What.is.a.youtube.video?

  • This is a very interesting video as a points to such a prevalent problem with continued car oriented development in this country at the expanse of everything else. "Just build more roads, screw transit, that's a waste of money, people don't need options." Its funny how they are "building for future increased traffic and demand" but when it comes to transit, they turn that logic around and say its not needed therefore assuming cars are the only way we should ever get around forever.

  • @Konman91316 Now that the car manufacturers are less politically powerful, those selling public transit should make their move.

  • @Konman91316

or maybe its about useless regulations when it comes to making roads as I see it cars aren't going anywhere.

  • do u have to pay 4 this

  • this is so wierd

  • /watch?v=XAQi-81cecs&feature=channel_video_title

  • lol go watch mine..it was my first time making one..it also has something to do with driving. Mine is with the dummy though.

  • Engineering of the 1940's

  • typical engineers haha

  • @brewmaster - well not knowing the details of your city, I don't want to overstep in my response. All i can do is repeat the idea that if towns were planned so that people actually could walk to the places they want to go, and roads were not overdesigned, then the USA would have a more cost-effecitve economy, with better mobility for everyone, not just drivers. It sounds like your city really overbuilt some roads and now is trying to fix that, compounding overspending with more spending...

  • 15 people have no sense of humor

  • But guys, all the shovel-ready jobs from the Stimulus Package(s) and local offices are helping to make America a more efficient and safer place!

    Psych.

  • a little anticlimactic at the end... i was also expecting the woman to burst out angrily. still this video is definitely thought provoking.

  • This is the most retarded video I have ever seen.

  • The 12 people who disliked this video are the engineers that had this idea. :P

  • /watch?v=oPHEHphU88E

  • man i expected somthing funny :l

  • @RodneyPlusGirls mine is funny: Indian Bear God. Search it.

  • @RodneyPlusGirls, it IS funny :-D Absolutely hilarious.

  • In what kind of crazy, mixed-up world does anybody (mother or not) in their right mind ever walk to the local grocery store or restaurant? I guess worlds made up of well-educated fuzzy bunnies. She probably only has to buy carrots and go out for carrot soup of en evening while the bunny-sitter comes over...she also appears to rabbit-on quite a bit.

  • @jabrett I do. I walked to get Indian for lunch on Saturday, and I usually walk over to the grocery store for something or other at least once a week.

  • Comment removed

  • That white Bear-dog thing is an idiot!!!!!!

  • I actually sided with the engineer in this video. The woman is an idiot.

  • @nick00goku Sorry, but cars moving faster in our cities is a problem. What are you doing to change the tragedy of around 40,000 people per year killed in the USA each year? That's something that touches us all. Engineering can help by calming traffic in cities.

  • @HowardFair , isn't that exactly the same number used for smoking-deaths? Not to minimize this or anything; but with nearly 20,000 cities in the USA -- the 2 a year (although traggic) does not appear to be above the curve.

  • @HowardFair , isn't that exactly the same number used for smoking-deaths? Not to minimize this or anything; but with nearly 20,000 cities in the USA -- the 2 a year (although traggic) does not appear to be above the curve -- and I would suspect there would be more if everybody went to the grocery store on foot....

  • @HowardFair

Speed limits r for wimps!! If everyone speed up, noone crash!

It too bad if people get hitt by cars then anyway, they just obviousenlely werent lookinghaha.

  • I have to tell you, that despite a lot of effort spent to demonize the engineer here, the white safety mom comes across as ignorant, self-centered, and concerned with very little beyond the issuance of her own uterus. Just like real life.

  • @axlotl1031 I don't agree--yes, she is talking about her own neighborhood and family, but it's better for all of us if fewer people are killed by cars. The cheapest and best way to do this is to reduce speeds in cities and towns. This video ties together a number of complex issues about planning--to do so without demonizing someone who is trying to simplify the issue would be hard.

  • @yojimbo dudes that's just racist

  • this video... I kept being like.. ummm why am I still watching this? o.O

and then... I was just like. this is ridiculous.

  • * - IF I DELETE A VIDEO , WILL I GET POINTS BACK ?

  • This conversation is too realistic and therefore upsetting. Most people I talk to think this way. This world sucks.

  • OMG this really hits home. We are being hit with a road widening project, as we speak, oh so sad, so hair pulling crazy this mind set is. These so called professionals get in their own way with logic is spot on absolutely so asinine, so mind blowing, no wonder we normal folks have to wonder why there is so much Chaos, They cause their own trouble Shezzz!! Yet we folks have to just take it in stride, Yea right, who's in charge? who pays their salary? Yea I thought so. I'd love to...

  • @RVFR2 Here in Louisville some planners are trying to make a road narrower and reduce traffic speed so the street will become more neighborhood-like and allow people to walk and bike more safely to local businesses. So not all traffic engineers are like this one. Thing is that I went to a community meeting and discovered that there's a huge faction of people who wanted the road to stay the same way so they can drive out of the 'hood as fast as they're used to!

  • Okay... what the hell?

  • What the fuck is with these "Xtranormal" vids. It seems like I'm the only one who feels like the horrifying voices and animation completely overshadow anything being said. It's like if I went to a play where the actors were corpses hanging from strings, and nobody in the audience seemed to notice.

  • @ElCheebo

Because Geico did it so its apparently it got some publicity yet it still sucks and has no real purpose

the fact stuff like this gets views is probably because people tell other ppl to look at the fail it is

  • That's government by the politician and special interest. Both democrats and republicans.

We need government by and for the people.

  • Stupid bureaucratic teddy bears...

  • LOVE THIS! Do more movies!

  • lol... more safe? try SAFER

  • This is exactly why it costs on average $500,000 to pave 1 mile of roadway. Also why government has become more gluttonous & wasteful than ever!!! Engineers have taken the place of common people that know how to get shit done!!!

  • I have no idea why this is so funny. But it is

  • We moved into a rural area of a small town six years ago. Us, and everyone around us is on five acres. As we speak, they are widening the bridge and street we live on. They have already removed over twenty mature trees. The county purchased a 50 foot easement on our property frontage. And yes, when it's done we will be able to watch the traffic, that is already traveling too fast, to travel even faster after the project is finished. We're selling (hopefully).

  • her kids don't need a front yard

  • need a dispenor here

  • Engineers always plan things but don't think about how difficult or even impossible things are to actually implement lol

  • This sounds more like a politician (be it with an engineering degree) then a "real' engineer.

  • hi i have only just joined xtranormal i wana no how do u change the voices thanks
