QUESTION FOR EVERYONE: In this movie, some of the characters stated, "they have no weapons, electricity, fucking rubbers (I loved that one), communication devices, or means to escape from the planet"..............
So, how did Ripley buzz off all her hair without electric clippers?
I thin Alien 3 was an amazing film, very steeped in the dark era of the comic book world, and was a triumphant ending for Ripley. the tragedy was alien resurrection (that brought Ripley back AGAIN) and the the AVP movies that didn't deliver for a franchise that was worth much more. 3 was the perfect movie I to have finished Ripley's story, and then the grand scale aliens movie that was asked for should have come after.

A huge step down from the first two and definitely not a film for everyone. Obvious cinematic problems that a casual moviegoer could rip to shreds. Didn't like it the first time I saw it but I tend to give credit to movies that try to do something a little different. It grows on you.
Yes its sad that this movie had to kill newt, hicks and bishop.. But i think it just added the sad feeling of Ripleys life until the end....
and when she dies in the end.. Well some believe that then you will be with your lost ones, once again and she then never have to deal with the aliens again.. a little hidden happy ending ;-)
I think too, that the third film is so underated! i always seen this film a part of ripleys long travel with soon no other memory other, than the fear and fight of these aliens! I think that this movie did end the saga, in respect for the theme of that world! For me is these 3 first movies the saga! the others are blocked from my memory...! the others are a shame to this saga!!!
Considering that the movie started shooting without a script and had so many studio suits fucking with the creative direction, it turned out pretty good.
I have never gotten "nauseous" from a horror or suspense film (granted i was 11), but i was dry-heaving for the whole day after seeing it. I didn't like it, being a HUGE fan of Aliens, and appreciative of Alien, i was pretty devastated.
That being said: this film, despite it's flaws and what it tried to do, was a beautiful, fiery train-wreck. Bring on Aliens: Colonial Marines (so i can continue my fandem and live vicariously through the game)!!!
Well, look at what was in the comics at the time before. The black and white ones, the first color ones and the Earth War Series. They explored the origins of the Alien and also brought Earth and humanity to its knees. ALIENS was a great sequel, but doing marines over again would have brought nothing new. Going after the aliens origins, the derelict space craft, and weyland/yutani's cover up of the alien would have been interesting! Killing everybody off was NOT WHAT PEOPLE WANTED.
@conceptman08 It's really a case of "What If." I felt the same way when Timothy Zahn wrote the Star Wars sequel novels. It seemed only logical that Lucas would take this route. But he made the prequels instead. There's not much people can do about that.
I myself was pritty depressed coming out of the movie , but years later actually appreciated it, kitchen sink drama like the 50s british films, but rather kitchen sink fantasy, and gave you a feeling of melancholy, which i suppose following from alien and aliens, give you the idea of 1st film fear, 2nd film action 3rd film loss.
Oh man, you left out the final montage and score that actually ended the documentary...love the swelling of 'Adagio' with the various production video and film scenes.
This was a movie that was NOT embraced. It has its goods, but following a film like ALIEN and ALIENS it was not the film people wanted. FOX SCREWED THE POOCH. You don't go backwards and play art house experiment with such a film franchise. It had some moving moments, and GOOD ACTING, good creature design, and I LOVED DILLON. Charles Dutton's performance is so sorely underrated. Fincher is a very great director, but this story and script was too much of a BAD COMPROMISE.
@atti97 Not a great movie, but it has goods that did work. I did love the alternate assembly cut above the theatrical cut. I accept the film more today than I did when I was 13. But its not a great film, it did not deliver on the genre expectations. The only characters I cared about were Ripley, Clemens, Aaron, and Dillon, I did like Morse's funny moments, but the rest who cares. Alien 3 pointed out how NOT to make a sequel. Mr Woodruff and Gillis are wrong, it is still the poison pill.
I agree that is underrated \, but it is still a very flawed film that doesn't really match the previous two. As a movie on its own terms it fares better.
@richiebabe24 agreed, deserves more credit then people take it for granted, this film gave me my imagination. seen it when i was 5 years old and it's one of the best films i've ever seen. this film made my childhood.

The ending should have been different.
It should have been a "mindfuck" movie instead of just killing everyone off :P

@conceptman08 totally agree. They had SOOO much source material to work with (comics), and they just pissed it all away.

@conceptman08 And what is the RIGHT way to make a sequel? Care to enlighten us? I'm open to different opinions.

The thing I hated about Alien 3 is the deaths of Newt and Hicks. And Ripleys death too.
The cool thing is the Dog Alien, shows that the species will affect any animal and how it takes the characteristics of its host.
