I guess we had some of the best performers of the era on the show. They're professional singers. They "signed on" to the mission and probably raised many, many millions of dollars. I was naive enough to be impressed by the whole thing. Production values and some of the performances astounded me. Kid Rock, for example, has a beautiful, soulful voice. Self-promoting? What isn't? Even volunteers who go to a soup kitchen on Christmas Day are self-promoting. All in all, America looked great.

Why is America making a huge deal out of the earthquake in haiti? What about our young soldiers in the mid east getting blown apart every day? I don't see a telethon for them. It seems as if Americans are suckers for penniless people living in huts. Apparently they deserve our country's support over our own people.

I'm with babacraig06, this is affecting us worldwide, many are grief-stricken, the magnitude is devastating. Yes there are homeless in our country and perhaps the states have already given millions, but this is serious suffering here, people!

Food Shelves, homeless shelters, soup kitchens (which I've volunteered at down in NYC) and so on. Even such organizations as the Salvation Army. Food Shelves. Soup Kitchens. Homeless Shelters. The Salvation Army. and those are just the things I can think of off the top of my head. All of which I've volunteered at, two of which were down in NYC (at the second largest soup kitchen in the country...non-profit).
So yeah, aside from those programs...yeah, help our own country indeed.

I guess we had some of the best performers of the era on the show. They're professional singers. They "signed on" to the mission and probably raised many, many millions of dollars. I was naive enough to be impressed by the whole thing. Production values and some of the performances astounded me. Kid Rock, for example, has a beautiful, soulful voice. Self-promoting? What isn't? Even volunteers who go to a soup kitchen on Christmas Day are self-promoting. All in all, America looked great.

I caught it at 1 in the morning on Viva. I'm sorry to say that I thought it was a shambles. After two hours of poorly organised sentimental gush and poor bewildered orphans, it broke down into a chaos of old pop promo videos and self congratulations for 30 minutes. Not one mention of the international aid effort, it sounded like they were saying that it was a purely American project. This did not inspire me to give.
