great memories, i was in the Royal Marines when this record came out. What happy memories. Lots of good sounds around at that time but this stands out.
I had the pleasure of seeing these guys at rainworth welfare a while ago they stood in for the ivy leauge im so glad they did the were absolutely brilliant.
When asked what is your fav decade for music, I always say 65-75, loads of songs like this, catchy tunes that you can play over & over, thanks for posting.
this was sold out in our local record shop as soon as it came out and i really wanted it badly! I traded a boy at school the 45 for a pack of ten woodbine ciggies . i've still got the record. I doubt he still has the ciggies? that's what i call a good deal.
when people wrote bright hopefull melodys great stuff now we can be deppresed to cold play or radio head who are two great bands but fuckin cheer up guys
Man, thanks soooooo much for posting this. I was only nine when this came out but I loved this song. And because it has never been thrashed to death, I will cherish it always. Very good times!
I knew this band for a short while in the 1960's. My eldest Sister, god rest her beautiful soul, hooked up with the drummer I think it,Andy Brown? we even had a couple of home visits from him and the other boys.
I remember running next door to get my best friend round then we both sat on the floor awestruck!. The Kudos "I" got when the other kids found out was awesome :-))))
A great reminder of the catchy tunes that came out in the 70's and indeed the 80's was for me another great decade for music. But let's not get too nostalgic, there was rubbish too albeit not on the scale of some of the crap that comes out today. But there are some terrific young acts in the last few years such as The Killers. What's not helping the industry is the disproportionate focus on 'manufactured' bands instead of genuine artists. Give today's music a chance folks, time to move on.
When I see the words "most of today's music is rubbish" it reminds me of what alot of people including my dad said in 1972! I was a big soul man and soul fan in the 1970s: there was an awful lot of dross then too! This however is one of many exceptions. This would be my favourite from the Fortunes: much of their music was easy to listen to but not banal. "Here comes that rainy day feeling again" a close second. BTW my dad did like "freedom come - freedom go" I thought it was awful!
Great to hear this again ,now a 52 year old i have a great feeling of nostalga for the late 60s and early 70s .A feel good song thanks for sharing it with us all,

Great times. I was 16 in Jan 1972 and wanted to be an 'adult' now I want to go back and be 16 and do things very differently. I am 55 now and it seems like yesterday.

not a clue why and sorry to the fans but i thought this was middle of the road i have to say great song but never heard of this band and would have never guessed there name the song is brill, can i just say sorry guys no offence ment and thats to any members of the band /family who watch (bill) x
You know, these great songs will never die, I have hundreds of great memories from this tremendous music era, no smutty lyrics, no expletives just romantic memorable melodies that blended with the words and reflected the mood and atmosphere of the times. In 40 years time I cannot envisage anyone listening to the inferior so called music of today, most young people today will never hear this golden age music, as for me bring on the time machine.
yes maurice1958,lynsey de pauls version also very good, my favourite band the moody blues had a few hits in 1972 also- isnt life strange and nights in white satin.
Today I had a horrible time at work. I was miserable on the train coming home and considered quitting. I got home, put on Youtube and saw this on my recommendations. A great song for helping regain one's perspective. Thanks xxx
I quite liked this song even though it wasn't really my kind of music. For some reason it always reminds me of watching black and white TV in my gran's kitchen.
I was 12 and I lived on crisps too. Mainly because I spent my school dinner money on smokes. 10 Players Number 10 cost exactly the same as yer school dinner - coincidence that !
i agree with naja46, the 70s was the best decade for music, 14 years old when this was out, `1972 my favourite year. most of todays music is rubbish, if only we could go back.
@cloughey1 i never heard this when it came out noticed it in a record collectors pprice guide the fortunes have a song called lindsay is that named after lindsay de paul the writter of this song its written by somebody named bainbridge is that rodney allen bainbridge the lead singer of the fortunes
@cloughey1 Maybe the good Doctor would help you one day. But what an idea for him - going back to the 70's. It would be quite a trip for all of us. I sure there's room in the Tardis. He would have to be careful not to bump into the characters from 'Life on Mars' though.
This was one of my favourite songs back then , I was 16 when it came out & I still have the record gathering dust somewhere ! I love it as much today as I did then , a fabulous song & I still know all the lyrics . Thanks for posting this , brings back many good memories of the wonderful 70's , in my opinion , the best decade ever for music . Good stuff !
@naja46 It's a great tune isn't it, this recording is from the old 45. I was 13 at the time and remember spending my dinner money on it... I lived on crisps back then haha.
Thank you for listening, Lynsey De Paul deserves some credit for writing this piece of pop nostalgia.
@YCSMusic GREAT TO HEAR THE VINYL VERSION ON HERE SCRATCHES AND ALL DID NOT REALISE IT WAS QUITE SO FAST AS THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY RE- RECORDINGS OF THIS WONDERFULL SONG -THANK YOU ENJOYED SO MUCH KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
@Derwentcub Thanks , they were indeed wonderful . I suppose we shouldn't live in the past but I wish we could sometimes turn the clock back & relive those good times . Life seemed so much more simple with brilliant music that will last forever . Happy days ........... :-)
Thanks for the work you have put into this presentation. The photo at 1:00 just shows how these were just normal and unaffected young lads wwith a terriffic talent. Storm in a teacup is one of the best pop songs ever written. Does nayone here have anyh connection with the group?
aww! i'm almost 20... and I was brought up on Marmalade, Bread, Fleetwood Mac and This group. Still love it, my friends are like WTF! when they look at my ipod. i've not heard this song since I was like 5
