  • I had the pleasure of seeing these guys at rainworth welfare a while ago they stood in for the ivy leauge im so glad they did the were absolutely brilliant.

  • Yeah lyndsey deserves some credit for this master piece, such a great piece of music.and only 4 dislikes, still sad but better than most others.

  • When asked what is your fav decade for music, I always say 65-75, loads of songs like this, catchy tunes that you can play over & over, thanks for posting.

  • this was the decade when music was music great memories thanks

  • this was sold out in our local record shop as soon as it came out and i really wanted it badly! I traded a boy at school the 45 for a pack of ten woodbine ciggies . i've still got the record. I doubt he still has the ciggies? that's what i call a good deal.

  • the uk always produced the greatested groups

  • They just looked like nice lads off the estate back then. Not like the cheeky little punks of today.

  • classic song

  • Brilliant 70,s song, its right up there.

  • what a class band and a fantastic song who ever uploaded this fair credit to you i like this a lot fantastic decade for music the 70s

  • Love ..these day's..70's..best time..late 60's 70.

  • Remember this well - great performance of a very superior pop song, Clever lyrics too.

  • I was 11.. But the 70's Just live on..

  • Hi Steve, just posted this on my FB page a friend of mine in Texas has never heard of the Fortunes lol...

  • Ah memories in iove and still am...best time ever.thanks

  • Man, thanks soooooo much for posting this. I was only nine when this came out but I loved this song. And because it has never been thrashed to death, I will cherish it always. Very good times!

  • Used to see Glen Dale in Tenerife on his own - he was good :-) xxxxx fab voice xxxx

  • bring back the 70s please todays music is crap

  • @sharonann3344 I was a teenager when this music started , the misc diversity then was massive, so u enjoy it and play it loud xxxxxx

  • This was the first record I ever bought when I was 9 years old! Loved it - reminds me of fishfingers chips and peas!!!

  • I knew this band for a short while in the 1960's. My eldest Sister, god rest her beautiful soul, hooked up with the drummer I think it,Andy Brown? we even had a couple of home visits from him and the other boys.

I remember running next door to get my best friend round then we both sat on the floor awestruck!. The Kudos "I" got when the other kids found out was awesome :-))))

Will always love the band, their sound

  • 40s-80s with a little of 90s in the USA. corporate crap killed Rap, Rock, Blues, R&B and Country. :js

  • love it

  • A great reminder of the catchy tunes that came out in the 70's and indeed the 80's was for me another great decade for music. But let's not get too nostalgic, there was rubbish too albeit not on the scale of some of the crap that comes out today. But there are some terrific young acts in the last few years such as The Killers. What's not helping the industry is the disproportionate focus on 'manufactured' bands instead of genuine artists. Give today's music a chance folks, time to move on.

  • When I see the words "most of today's music is rubbish" it reminds me of what alot of people including my dad said in 1972! I was a big soul man and soul fan in the 1970s: there was an awful lot of dross then too! This however is one of many exceptions. This would be my favourite from the Fortunes: much of their music was easy to listen to but not banal. "Here comes that rainy day feeling again" a close second. BTW my dad did like "freedom come - freedom go" I thought it was awful!

  • Great track Steve!

  • Great to hear this again ,now a 52 year old i have a great feeling of nostalga for the late 60s and early 70s .A feel good song thanks for sharing it with us all,

  • Great times. I was 16 in Jan 1972 and wanted to be an 'adult' now I want to go back and be 16 and do things very differently. I am 55 now and it seems like yesterday.

  • fantastic group

  • I love this song so much, I keep listening to it over and over and it always makes me feel better. And I wasn't even born when it was released.

  • Awesome,Awesome, Awesome

  • They certainly sound a lot like the Four Seasons on this great song.

  • Robert Elms played this on his BBC London show yesterday. I was 12 when this came out and I really can't recall hearing it since the mid 70s. Thanks for posting

  • thanks for the memories. i was 2 when this came out

  • Oh the memories....

  • not a clue why and sorry to the fans but i thought this was middle of the road i have to say great song but never heard of this band and would have never guessed there name the song is brill, can i just say sorry guys no offence ment and thats to any members of the band /family who watch (bill) x

  • I remember my dad playing this in the car when I was like 6... depressing times LOL strangely enough I still love this song though.

  • i agree with quatermass07 great memories love all that music it will live on forever in my heart

  • You know, these great songs will never die, I have hundreds of great memories from this tremendous music era, no smutty lyrics, no expletives just romantic memorable melodies that blended with the words and reflected the mood and atmosphere of the times. In 40 years time I cannot envisage anyone listening to the inferior so called music of today, most young people today will never hear this golden age music, as for me bring on the time machine.

  • i remember this song,... when my grandparents died,..... i was only 11,....

  • yes maurice1958,lynsey de pauls version also very good, my favourite band the moody blues had a few hits in 1972 also- isnt life strange and nights in white satin.

  • This song was playing in my head continuously the other day. Nice to hear it again.

  • Today I had a horrible time at work. I was miserable on the train coming home and considered quitting. I got home, put on Youtube and saw this on my recommendations. A great song for helping regain one's perspective. Thanks xxx

  • I was 11 back then and i still love it now. Heard it on BBC Radio 2 (where else would play it) and thought You Tube now its on my play list.

  • I quite liked this song even though it wasn't really my kind of music. For some reason it always reminds me of watching black and white TV in my gran's kitchen.

I was 12 and I lived on crisps too. Mainly because I spent my school dinner money on smokes. 10 Players Number 10 cost exactly the same as yer school dinner - coincidence that !

And I had the hots for Lynsey de Paul.

  • i agree with naja46, the 70s was the best decade for music, 14 years old when this was out, `1972 my favourite year. most of todays music is rubbish, if only we could go back.

  • @cloughey1 I was 14 in 1972 as well I couldn't agree with you more about going back

    P.s

Have you heard the Lynsey de paul version (who wrote and sung it)

It is really good as well

  • @cloughey1 i never heard this when it came out noticed it in a record collectors pprice guide the fortunes have a song called lindsay is that named after lindsay de paul the writter of this song its written by somebody named bainbridge is that rodney allen bainbridge the lead singer of the fortunes

  • @cloughey1 Maybe the good Doctor would help you one day. But what an idea for him - going back to the 70's. It would be quite a trip for all of us. I sure there's room in the Tardis. He would have to be careful not to bump into the characters from 'Life on Mars' though.

  • @cloughey1 what was wrong with the sixties eh ? nearly right the 70s come pretty close tho

  • I lived on crisps too, and great music which didn't seem to stop. I was 11 when this was out, jesus I wish I could go back.

    Thanks for posting

  • This was one of my favourite songs back then , I was 16 when it came out & I still have the record gathering dust somewhere ! I love it as much today as I did then , a fabulous song & I still know all the lyrics . Thanks for posting this , brings back many good memories of the wonderful 70's , in my opinion , the best decade ever for music . Good stuff !

  • @naja46 It's a great tune isn't it, this recording is from the old 45. I was 13 at the time and remember spending my dinner money on it... I lived on crisps back then haha.

Thank you for listening, Lynsey De Paul deserves some credit for writing this piece of pop nostalgia.

  • @YCSMusic GREAT TO HEAR THE VINYL VERSION ON HERE SCRATCHES AND ALL DID NOT REALISE IT WAS QUITE SO FAST AS THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY RE- RECORDINGS OF THIS WONDERFULL SONG -THANK YOU ENJOYED SO MUCH KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

  • @naja46 Great comment - the 70s were wonderful.. :-)

  • @Derwentcub Thanks , they were indeed wonderful . I suppose we shouldn't live in the past but I wish we could sometimes turn the clock back & relive those good times . Life seemed so much more simple with brilliant music that will last forever . Happy days ........... :-)

  • @naja46 just outstanding that is all

  • Another great record from the Fortunes !

  • great, great pop song.

  • It's a great song and the Fortunes really do it justice

  • she did old

  • such a fucking brilliant song. x

  • I think Lynsey dePaul co-wrote this.

  • Excellent

  • Six degrees of separation, well less actually, my friend's daughter married one of Barry Pritchard's twin sons!

  • Great song! Really upbeat and joyful!

I like it very much. Merci.

  • Yeah it's great isn't it. I'm glad you liked it darling. My no.2 favourite of the 70s. No. 3 will be along in a while, a totally different style.

  • My mum used to sing this to me when I was really young, as a lullaby...It will always remind me of my childhood

  • Thanks for the work you have put into this presentation. The photo at 1:00 just shows how these were just normal and unaffected young lads wwith a terriffic talent. Storm in a teacup is one of the best pop songs ever written. Does nayone here have anyh connection with the group?

  • aww! i'm almost 20... and I was brought up on Marmalade, Bread, Fleetwood Mac and This group. Still love it, my friends are like WTF! when they look at my ipod. i've not heard this song since I was like 5

  • makes me cry, all those great yesterdays so long ago, great stuff.

  • a brill song, makes me wanna bang the kettle on and make a cuppa

  • super song from my youth

  • This is a fabulous record with a superb tune and lyrics (which I note were provided by Lyndsey de Paul) and arrangement and accompaniment. It should have been number one everywhere. I loved it when it first came out and I still do.

  • I enjoyed the song too. Thank you for sharing this with me!

    --------Ellen

  • @MANFROMMARS46

  • Thankyou for posting Steve, I had a drink with the Fortunes some years ago.

    5* and Fav

  • Cheers Paul

  • Lynsey de Paul should be in the credits, or tags: she wrote the lyrics for The Fortunes.

  • @tooolnut she wrote the music too!

  • Good track - Thanks Steve - nice cheery lyrics. Fortunes are still a touring band - saw them at my local theatre along with other 60's bands and it was a fantastic night's entertainment.

  • They've always been popular Joan, didn't have many hits but what they did have was great. Glad to hear they're still doing the rounds.

  • Nice tune (featuring some of the original artists) in very small writing on the back of the cd, got caught loads of times myself. Cheers Steve

  • Cheers Eddie, was it you that asked for Surfer Dan?

I'm just about to file a dispute to get it back on.
