  • they'er flyin'

  • Peart plays his drum like a vehicole motor working. It's terrific!!!!

  • Is Geddy playing the Steinberger?

  • Was that a fast double bass roll at 3:31-3:33???

I've never heard Neil play a double bass roll that fast.

  • excellent.. really wish i could've seen rush back in this time

  • wow this is FAST!!!!

  • This is when Rush was good energy...

  • YYZ like it's 1983.

  • The Golden Years of Neil Peart, see above video for details

  • ive always loved this solo from this time much prefering it to his solos of the last 10 years or so-the dynamics, movement, humour!! and the quads at the fianale have not been executed so perfectly since

  • This is what it is fucking all about. Not the solos he does in the 2000s. THIS is how Neil Peart became NEIL PEART.

  • @vaportrails44 Amen.

  • @vaportrails44 .....indeed! wow. what a solo. fantastic. ..neil at the peak of his powers

  • Fenomenal drum man.my ydol since 1985,absolute fantastic.......

  • very nice brings me back I went to this show in Providence Rhode Islane thanks for the memory

  • WOw

  • His drum solos always sound the same, meaning they always have the same "theme". Oh well, thumbs up.

  • makes all others look foolish. Neil is the only drummer, period. thanks for the vid

  • Thanks for sharing! Neil just kills it in this solo - definitely my new favorite!

  • Wow...what a treat to see THIS solo on video. Thanks to whomever videoed this! Neil's technique and power during this period has never been matched by anyone....Bonham or Moon. He's like a drumming machine encompassing both Bonham and Moon. That's why he's a legend and that's just one reason why RUSH should be in the HOF.

  • Peart is well versed in countless styles, this is what makes him not one of the greatest drummers, but the greatest ever. ;-)

  • @saulocpp Well versed in countless styles? Are you kidding me? Have you ever seen the man try to play jazz or to swing? He tries, but is no where near the skill of many of the jazz greats. Peart is first and foremost a Rock drummer, regardless of what people may think. And believe me, he's an amazing rock drummer. But when you put him in a scenario outside of rock, then he's not as great as people make him out to be. Greatest drummer ever? There's no such thing.

  • That's wild......I was watching this and looked over at the description. I was there at this very show!

  • Nice video. And this is one of my favorite solos from Neil. They were very formidable at this time. And of course still.

  • Neil Peart is ONE of the greatest ROCK drummers of all time. There is absolutely no jazz in his playing. Listen to Buddy Rich, Max Roach or Tony Williams if you want to hear jazz.

  • perfectly*

  • Lol, 0:05 some random piece of clothing went perfect over Geddy's head

  • It's the head from Roll the Bones

  • think they'll ever play it this tempo again!?!

    speed baby speed!!

  • I'm so glad to see that this 1983 concert footage exists! ViVa Rush, my first Rush shows was this tour, in Dallas on Feb 28th and March 1st. Reunion Arena, which is in the process of being torn down. What a pity, saw so many great shows there, including Rush at least 10 times.

  • That video was sick/ thanx for posting. But i do like the sound better with his Tamas, but dw is still sick drums!!!

  • Fantastic.

I saw them for the first time about a month after this gig at the NEC Brimingham - a life shaping moment.

I was fortunate enough to meet Ged & Al after the gig too.

    Which was nice.

  • Thanks! I experienced this concert about 3 1/2 weeks earlier on March,6 1983. It was a Sunday night and I was 15 years old.Back in the days when The Summit in Houston was still the Summit. Not the Compaq center as it was later known. They played this as their encore.Neil was a god then and he still is.....

  • Rush Signals tour was my first rock concert. I've seen them many times since, but that first experience leaves the largest impression. Thank you so much for posting this!!

  • The Professor at his best. Thihs is my favorite of his drum solos. I dig the one from the 2112 album.

  • feel the same the solo in workingman on all the worlds a stage is killer, that live album is from their 2112 tour. peace out

  • neil peart is the best rock drummer of all time, sorry to all you john bonham fans out there, but neils jazz drumming instinct is just too good to deny

  • Neil peart's a great rock and roll drummer, but is just barely second on my list, next to Keith Moon.

  • Neil's Tamas sound so much better than his DW's...

  • weird

    xD

at first it sounded slower than normal

  • Great Video!! Always wanted to see Neil's original YYZ solo live.. Thanks for posting!!

  • kids dont know anymore theses days than what they have been shown and what they have been shown is not a damn thing untill they figure it out themselves

  • Now see i'm a 14 year old. And all I listen to and play the drums to is Rush. Some of my friends don't like Rush. Thats them. They don't understand why I like Rush.

  • Actually I'm 13 and i have 2 Rush cover videos on youtubue.

  • saw them feb. 21 of 83 with golden earring. first concert! signals tour. this vid brings back so many memories. thank you for posting this tour!

  • I believe this tour is a mimic of the Moving Picture's Tour.

  • Yeah. As a Rock drummer Neil was sooo ahead of his time. I see little "kiddies" on the internet and elsewhere call him overrated... I'm like... sure, it's easy to take him for granted now...but..

  • ...view's giving me a headache. Great sound, though.

  • Hmm, that's strange... I've never removed it... (shrug)

  • I must say I'm confused.

  • I'm risking being flamed and downvoted, but i think that in this video, the bass sounds like shit.

  • The bass sounds the absolute best in the Rush in Rio CD.. followed by Snakes n' Arrows Live!

  • Well...that's the Steinberger...it had a very unique vibe at the time, but I don't think that sound has stood the test of time. My favorite Geddy bass is actually The Wal.

  • Neil Peart has the greatest sounding snare during the 1978-83 period

  • This is Neil with all his strength . . there is and never be anyone who can come close! All drummers deap down know and understand this fact! I've been drumming 30 years, have mastered much of this but Neil just has such inate ability that does not exist in anyone today!

  • What can I ever possibly say that would capture the true awesomeness of RUSH!!! They are my second favorite band, right after the Beatles. You have got to check out the colbert report, when he interviews RUSH. It is so funny. Thanks for the post. I've seen RUSH 10 times in concert and counting. I agree with some of the comments that they were at their peak during the early 80's. The best years were from 1974 to 1984. Later.

  • Same solo as Exit Stage Left , great video, Thanks!!!

  • This was the same sight where they taped Exit Stage Left 2 years prior.

  • is it just me? or did they go slow in the intro?

and geddy's held notes seemed kinda weird.

  • This is Neil at or near his peak. Hell this is Rush at or near their peak. It doesn't get better than this.

  • Get Rush In Rio. You'll be shocked. They get even BETTER!

  • Thanks so much for the awesome vid!!
