ive always loved this solo from this time much prefering it to his solos of the last 10 years or so-the dynamics, movement, humour!! and the quads at the fianale have not been executed so perfectly since
Wow...what a treat to see THIS solo on video. Thanks to whomever videoed this! Neil's technique and power during this period has never been matched by anyone....Bonham or Moon. He's like a drumming machine encompassing both Bonham and Moon. That's why he's a legend and that's just one reason why RUSH should be in the HOF.
@saulocpp Well versed in countless styles? Are you kidding me? Have you ever seen the man try to play jazz or to swing? He tries, but is no where near the skill of many of the jazz greats. Peart is first and foremost a Rock drummer, regardless of what people may think. And believe me, he's an amazing rock drummer. But when you put him in a scenario outside of rock, then he's not as great as people make him out to be. Greatest drummer ever? There's no such thing.
Neil Peart is ONE of the greatest ROCK drummers of all time. There is absolutely no jazz in his playing. Listen to Buddy Rich, Max Roach or Tony Williams if you want to hear jazz.
I'm so glad to see that this 1983 concert footage exists! ViVa Rush, my first Rush shows was this tour, in Dallas on Feb 28th and March 1st. Reunion Arena, which is in the process of being torn down. What a pity, saw so many great shows there, including Rush at least 10 times.
Thanks! I experienced this concert about 3 1/2 weeks earlier on March,6 1983. It was a Sunday night and I was 15 years old.Back in the days when The Summit in Houston was still the Summit. Not the Compaq center as it was later known. They played this as their encore.Neil was a god then and he still is.....
Rush Signals tour was my first rock concert. I've seen them many times since, but that first experience leaves the largest impression. Thank you so much for posting this!!
neil peart is the best rock drummer of all time, sorry to all you john bonham fans out there, but neils jazz drumming instinct is just too good to deny
kids dont know anymore theses days than what they have been shown and what they have been shown is not a damn thing untill they figure it out themselves
Now see i'm a 14 year old. And all I listen to and play the drums to is Rush. Some of my friends don't like Rush. Thats them. They don't understand why I like Rush.
Yeah. As a Rock drummer Neil was sooo ahead of his time. I see little "kiddies" on the internet and elsewhere call him overrated... I'm like... sure, it's easy to take him for granted now...but..
Well...that's the Steinberger...it had a very unique vibe at the time, but I don't think that sound has stood the test of time. My favorite Geddy bass is actually The Wal.
This is Neil with all his strength . . there is and never be anyone who can come close! All drummers deap down know and understand this fact! I've been drumming 30 years, have mastered much of this but Neil just has such inate ability that does not exist in anyone today!
What can I ever possibly say that would capture the true awesomeness of RUSH!!! They are my second favorite band, right after the Beatles. You have got to check out the colbert report, when he interviews RUSH. It is so funny. Thanks for the post. I've seen RUSH 10 times in concert and counting. I agree with some of the comments that they were at their peak during the early 80's. The best years were from 1974 to 1984. Later.

This is what it is fucking all about. Not the solos he does in the 2000s. THIS is how Neil Peart became NEIL PEART.

Fantastic.
I saw them for the first time about a month after this gig at the NEC Brimingham - a life shaping moment.
I was fortunate enough to meet Ged & Al after the gig too.
Which was nice.
