Check out the singer Joe Nichols for a strong East Texas/Arkansas accent. It's so good, it makes me homesick to hear it. His 2005 song "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off" is the best example. Do a YouTube search for it.

It's not held against you in Texas to have a strong accent. It's like how Swiss German is preferable to High German in Switzerland. Some people say broad Texan actually conveys a higher status and more moneyed background than any nasal "Northern accent" in Dallas.
