I'm curious. Has anyone actually used the photo-snap app to shop? I mean, it LOOKS really cool, but does it really work? Guess I'll have to download it an try.
While I LOVE my apps, I also love that I can put a call on "speakerphone" and look at weather or check my bank account or go to the web while talking. Yay for multitasking!
Does this phone completely eliminate the need for an ipod then? I have a cell, have an ipod, but it would be nice to have it all in one little package instead of hauling them both around all the time.
Say you get to the front of the grocery line and find that you've lost your wallet and have no way to pay. Is there an app for that? (Yes, that has happened to me!)
@hip - me too! With everything that is available to use, my phone bill would be horrible! I'm thinking I need to just completely cancel out the home phone and stick to only using this one. That would clear up at least a hundred bucks a month I could use toward my app addiction!
@cyblyjackson@hippydippyjane Actually, there are tons of 'lite' versions of apps that are free, and do almost everything the more expensive apps do. As well, many apps are just free by design.
LOL@hickbertrand - I am almost willing to bet good money that they do! An iphone tutorial has just got to be in there somewhere! WAIT! Let me check! :)
I've been looking at all the information I can about this phone - seems like it should be a no-brainer on the decision to get one. It will totally change the way you go about your daily life.
Can we get one of these on a pre-pay system? Or does it have to be on contract, like through the phone company? For my oldest kid, we almost HAVE to pre-pay - otherwise we will be broke!
Ok...just a note for all the new owners. Make sure when you are searching the apps...make sure that you have enough money in your accounts. When the apps range anywhere from 99cents and up...it can add up so fast. But too, its so much fun to shop!!!
It can really add up if you decide you like alot of the apps, as it can add up in price real quick. But like nikidavs said, you can search the free apps too. I think I have all the first 25 free apps that are available. Well maybe not the weird ones...lol.
@pammydeeber It just all depends on what your looking for. When your on the iPod Touch for example, you can choose between the Free Apps or the ones you pay for. I do not know how many apps are available, all I know is there are TONS!!! I tend to search the free apps, granted some are demos at least you get to see what your thinking about buying.
Any guesstimates on just how many apps are currently available? How much per app? Do you pay for the service and each app separately, or do you get to use some of them for free?
@mhol60 and here I thought I was the only one with it completely attached to my hand? Its my nightly ritual of having to check my emails and to see if there are any new apps out there. Which seems like there are some new ones every single day.
@mycarraddy You definitely want to keep your battery charged when on your iPod Touch, and another piece of good advice, if your listening to your music turn off the screen....as it saves battery life. I learned that the hard way.
I've remained skeptical on this little piece of technology, til' today. I've been searching online and reading up on the iPod Touch. Thanks to Youtube, there are plenty to choose from. I am now a proud owner of the iPod Touch. Any good applications for a person who is new to all of this?
Simply put, great buy for your buck...there is honestly be no disappointment with this. I have been downloading music off iTunes, along with photo editing program. I love IT!!!
One thing I will say, I really wish the price would go down just a tad bit. One reason, I would buy a couple for the kids. I own ONE, I can't see to pay that much for a teenager. I do love the apps, I love everything about it, and do hope the price does go down just a tad.
I honestly cannot say enough how awesome my iPod touch is, it was seriously the best investment that I have ever made. I am always searching the games, especially the game Blocked. Oh my goodness, so addicting. If your a puzzle person, then there is a game that is perfect for you.
Yep, you can watch whole movies, you can rent movies and or course buy music, actually you can buy almost anything for the iPod touch. I actually watched an entire movie on a flight without having to listen to other people. It was awesome!! And its totally true, there's an App for that!!!
This technology is really amazing. I bet that someday in the near future, there will be absolutely no need for land line service anymore. I mean as it is, the only thing I need it for is my internet on the ol' big bulky pc.
Don't debate on buying a iPod touch or the iPhone...they are awesome! If you get a chance, go to the store and play with one for a little bit, guaranteed you will not be disappointed.
@imascrapnfool Yep, I watched videos on the iPhone for almost a year and then finally wandered in to play with one. Wandered back out with one in my hand. All you have to do is touch one to realize their potential.
@MrAGray Ditto for me. I went in just to look and came out a proud iPhone owner. It's pretty much surgically attached to my body now. Best gadget ever!
I just wish my iPod touch had a camera, it would be a complete package for me. I don't like having to download them to a laptop then to the Touch itself. I love the app where I can edit pictures myself!!!
After reading all these comments, and how many people absolutely love their iPods and iPhones. I can't wait to get one finally, just wish my income tax would get there. The apps look like so much fun, and how much easier life would be to have a small device in your hands.
I would love one of these - I'm checking out a bunch of videos about the iPhone and the more I check out, the more I'm convinced that I'm going to be saving my pennies for the next while for an iPhone. All these apps will replace like, 3/4 of the things I have to carry around with me everyday.
@bigfoot Me too. I've always been pretty tight-fisted, but the recession has turned me into a real penny pincher. I'm debating about updating my laptop or going with an iPhone because I do think I could do so many things with it and leave the heavy bag at home.
@Rhetta I still love my laptop, but on days when all I need to do is check my email or look up a few things, the iPhone is great. I read books on it and am fairly addicted to several games. The longer you use it, the more you'll love it.
@dorislanky can you watch videos on the phone as well? My kid has just a regular cell, and she can't, but she can check her email and stuff like that. I was wondering how much different it is if at all?
@barflymike Yep, video is gorgeous on the iPhone. I like to chill out at lunch and surf around YouTube and when we took a trip this fall, I downloaded a couple of flicks from iTunes to watch on the plane. Very, very cool.
@52mickeyw Me too Mickey. Guess I have a low boredom threshold, but video on the iPhone has saved me more than once. I usually keep a movie sitting on mine just in case. Absolutely love this thing. Can't remember life without it.
I'm also still deciding whether to purchase one of these or not. I'm still undecided, but I think if I watch many more of these videos, the decision will be made for me. lol
@Sprocketman1 : I can tell you from experience that it definitely will freak them out. My dogs hear a dog barking on TV and they start running around looking for the intruder!
The best thing ever was when I took video of my two dogs and played it back to them - they were SO confused and were barking at my iPhone! lol - I'm going to use their barking sound as a ringtone and see if it freaks them out.
Lol I tried to watch LOST on an iPhone earlier this week-- it's hard enough to follow what's going on on a huge screen! There should be an app to explain LOST-- wonder if there is!
I seriously WANT to love the show but I can't understand anything that's happened since Season 2. Just when I think I understand something, they change everything! And there are always so many visual clues - I can't imagine trying to watch on the iPhone's screen.
@electricalcurrency Oh yes I would believe. I'm a retired college professor. I used to have a hard enough time back when cell phones first started getting popular. I'm afraid I'd make the students check their iPhones at the door. Just too tempting and the potential for cheating? I don't even like to think about it.
I teach jr. high and actually caught one of my students recording me with her iPhone yesterday. This was after I'd confiscated another phone from a girl who was texting in class. I love technology, but sometimes I wonder WHY everyone feels like they need to be connected ALL THE TIME.
I'm one of those people who has a need to be hyperconnected - plugged in all the time - but I can't really explain it. It's like, it's what I'm accustomed to at this point, being cut off for any time would feel strange.
Which is part of what makes this piece of tech so darn appealing I guess. :-O
I love to have one, but afraid I would be like some I know and be addicted to their phone! I actually know someone who literally said they die without theirs! Wow must be one heck of a good phone!
@DisneyAngelGirl Well, I haven't gotten my iPhone yet, that's next month, but I already feel like dying without my phone named after a dark fruit. I'm not so sure it's the phone I can't live without as my online life. It's all about being about to put the Net in your pocket.
I just love all the apps this phone offers. But I think I would spend more time playing with this phone than I would actually spend using it as a phone. lol
@uduh37 that would be a great app to have, a symptoms check for sure, especially when it comes to strokes and heart issues! It be sweet if the phone could take a pulse just from holding a finger on the tough screen!
I've held off getting an iPhone ever since they came out, but I'm weakening by the minute. I agree with what everyone has said about the apps. It's really not the hardware, it's the versatility of what you can do with one of these. The critics can grumble all they like, but the iPhone has redefined the whole world of smart phones.
@RandlVid I'm so with you on that. I think some people just have a hating on for Apple. Every time they roll out a new product people start in with the negativity, but look at how they've busted out with iPhone sales. Sure the thing has limitations, but it has a whole lot more possibilities. I love mine.
Oh cool I love the touch screen, I wonder what its like typing out a text message, this LG phone i have, the keyboard is so tiny I fumble sending out a message!
@BlueAngelsSky the touch screen does look good. the phone I have now has a really tiny 1inch screen.. I can barely read it. This touchscreen looks a log bigger
@TractorPMan That sounds like a cool idea. It'd make a perfect gift for this guy I know that gets lost going around the block.... and he's lived there 27 years
I was thinking that. I've seen someone using one in place of a laptop for their job. It's kind of bizarre to see, really. They're there typing away on this tiny phone and it's like.. what the heck?
Finding the best price for textbooks that easily would be awesome. Of all the things you don't want to look at any longer than necessary, and don't want to waste more money on!
I totally agree with this. The way university bookstores mark up prices is insane, so being able to have more choices will almost certainly end up saving you money.
I would love to get my hands on one of these phones. But since I just signed a two year contract on the one I have now, I can't see that happening any time soon.
My son had his cell phone at the age of 9 and he is 11 now and still can't manage the money he spends in calls. The iphone definitely is not for so young kids, too much money on their hands.
I would love to be 8 again with a cell phone, but I'd never pay attention in class if I had one. I have ADD as it is. I get bored, I'd be surfing. That'd be the end of me.
wow 8 years old and has a cell phone, my teenager doesn't even have one yet, I told him when he gets a job and can afford the payment then he can have one. He is always watching videos here, hope he doesn't see an 8 year has one! Yikes!
I am SO with you on that one. I don't see what kid, teenager or younger, needs an iphone. I watched boys with one cheat at a trivia competition last weekend. I turned their asses in.
I had to go in an Apple store yesterday. I had a real reason to be there -- replacement battery for the laptop -- and what did I do? Played with an iPhone and drooled for half an hour.
I was just watching other video's on her as I'm debating on getting one. I was able to see a 18 month old turn on and unlock her mom's phone and then watched a teenager say what his top 10 apps were. Watching the toddler I was thinking.. if she can do this I can. But after watching the teenager I'm thinking.. maybe I better stick with my basic phone. It looked all confusing to me.
If it makes you feel any better, my sister-in-law was feeling the same way, but ended up getting an iphone and she is so glad she did. Now she wouldn't trade it for anything.
I just learned that in addition to apps like this one, car companies are developing iPhone apps for their roadside assistance plans. How cool is that?
Sounds like a lot of fun and functional apps. I worry that I'd get just as distracted with that as I do at home with my computer. Find an apartment or play Farkle?? Tough call...
@insightfulcommentor I know what you mean. Even now, I have to turn off the phone and put it in a drawer so I'm not wasting time with games or texting.
I had a Girl Scout come to our door after school to see if I would by cookies and she was sending a text on her phone while I looked over the order form! Wonder if they get a badge for that now!
8?? That's.. way too young in my book. I never really understood giving a cell phone to someone that young, especially one that cost several hundred dollars.
I was on my sons fieldtrip today and another mom said there are apps on her iphone that are learning games for her daughter. All the way back to the school.. her daughter & friends were indeed playing games on her mom's iphone.
There are more apps every day! I know they say this one is especially good for college kids, but the photo editing thing is something I'd use a few times a day to get other kids out of pictures of my daughter :)
I saw the nerdiest App ever the other day (on my husbands phone, no less :P) Light saber simulator! It makes the noise and puts a light saber on the screen that you can actually move and what not... don't know how USEFUL it is, but he finds it amusing heh
Did that App that's like... a credit card ever come to fruition? I remember it was something with like a bar code and you could use it at stores instead of carrying around cards... but it concerned me because if you lost your phone or left it somewhere someone could use your card. Anyone know what I'm talking about? lol
@BlogChickie - me too! Haha, I always have mine near me... I listen to music at night before I go to sleep and then use it as an alarm in the morning when it's time to get up. Only time it's not physically ON me is in the shower :P
@MissionResponsible: They have an solution for that too ;) They make those water proof cases that are like top of the line metal so you can the Iphone in the shower with you ;) I would be too scared of a leak though!
I wonder who the man behind the curtain is who gets to create apps for a living? What an awesome job that could be! Basically think of something thats difficult in life then make an App for that :P I want that job!
My mom wants one of these.. but she is not very good at technology. Does anyone know if this is something that PARENTS can learn? All the young folks are kind of born with genes to work these things now ;) but what about the older people?
@combmyhairlikeelvis I don't think it's a problem. in my experience age has nothing to do with tech ability. let her try one out and see. given time to get comfortable with it and ask questions.. she'll be a pro in no time.
Wow - how will they improve from here? I remember my old bag phone...heck, I remember being impressed by a cordless phone in my house! Maybe the next generation of iPhones can do the dishes...
I seen a recipe app for it, that be kind of handy when trying to figure out what to plan for the dinner menu and your out at the store, and can grab the ingredients you need!
@standing4fruitflies But that's just it... you wouldn't really replace an iPhone that often! Sure, there are some gadget junkies who will grab the latest incarnation every year, but plenty
I actually did download the snaptell app - it works as described - so. very. cool.

a3f33sss 2 years ago 5
@a3f33sss QIII on the iPhone?!? Coolness! Sign me up!
k39645120 2 years ago 3
I love to have one, but afraid I would be like some I know and be addicted to their phone! I actually know someone who literally said they die without theirs! Wow must be one heck of a good phone!
DisneyAngelGirl 2 years ago 4
@DisneyAngelGirl Well, I haven't gotten my iPhone yet, that's next month, but I already feel like dying without my phone named after a dark fruit. I'm not so sure it's the phone I can't live without as my online life. It's all about being about to put the Net in your pocket.
jackhughesful 2 years ago 4
I think the iphone it's great because of its portability, because in terms of internet and blogging I guess the laptop it's the best choice.
mrjosephcoster 2 years ago 3
I just love all the apps this phone offers. But I think I would spend more time playing with this phone than I would actually spend using it as a phone. lol
partyingondown 2 years ago 3
That's cool, just think of it as a portable entertainment system!
jv4edg 2 years ago 7
uau...what can I say, it looks amazing and I want one!!! Can you lower the price for me please? I wanna try those applications.
danielamarquinho 2 years ago 5
I would love to have an iphone to get hold of all my tasks. With all those applications and small at it is it would be great to have one on my bag.
condessairyna 2 years ago 5
I think my favorite feature on this phone is the picture cropping. I would love to get my hands on one of these phones.
toughoneify 2 years ago 4
I love the photo cropping thing. Is that available on the iTouch without the phone too?
JessiesGranddaughter 2 years ago 5
Far as I know, yes. the iTouch has the same apps as the iPhone, just with no phone part, and I think no camera.
johnny486megabyte 2 years ago 2
@uduh37 that would be a great app to have, a symptoms check for sure, especially when it comes to strokes and heart issues! It be sweet if the phone could take a pulse just from holding a finger on the tough screen!
UnitFanMan 2 years ago 3
I wonder if there's an app that will let me describe symptoms and tell me what I might have and help me find the right doctor?
uduh37 2 years ago 3
Very nifty apps. Those pictures looked very clear for a phone on the apartment finding app.
grannypotts 2 years ago 5
I've held off getting an iPhone ever since they came out, but I'm weakening by the minute. I agree with what everyone has said about the apps. It's really not the hardware, it's the versatility of what you can do with one of these. The critics can grumble all they like, but the iPhone has redefined the whole world of smart phones.
RandlVid 2 years ago 2
@RandlVid I'm so with you on that. I think some people just have a hating on for Apple. Every time they roll out a new product people start in with the negativity, but look at how they've busted out with iPhone sales. Sure the thing has limitations, but it has a whole lot more possibilities. I love mine.
MrWilBust 2 years ago 4
These apps look so cool! I'm really amazed at how far technology has come!
girlygirl6201 2 years ago
Oh cool I love the touch screen, I wonder what its like typing out a text message, this LG phone i have, the keyboard is so tiny I fumble sending out a message!
BlueAngelsSky 2 years ago 3
@BlueAngelsSky the touch screen does look good. the phone I have now has a really tiny 1inch screen.. I can barely read it. This touchscreen looks a log bigger

I'm going over to check out this phone a little more closely. After all, my birthday is coming up. hehe
chickie372 2 years ago 2
@chickie372 I'm thinking the same thing. It's definitely time to start dropping hints!!
afnu39hr3u 2 years ago 2
I wonder if it's got an app for RickRolling people via the phone? *evil grin*
f83yut8 2 years ago 2
I would love, love, love to have one of these phones! The apps look so cool. I'm sure I could have a lot of fun with those.
videogirlist 2 years ago 4
I absolutely love the look of this phone. But I can see it becoming an awful time waster for me. lol
TheCraftylady 2 years ago 7
I was thinking the same thing. I waste enough time when I'm on the computer, I can't imagine how much worse an iphone would make it.
ganderinggarden 2 years ago 5
With all the traveling I do, I love to have one with a GPS app in it, but has to have a voice to it so it is safer with me driving!
TractorPMan 2 years ago 4
@TractorPMan That sounds like a cool idea. It'd make a perfect gift for this guy I know that gets lost going around the block.... and he's lived there 27 years
MrLihpexs 2 years ago 3
Can I squeeze more time for myself out of this device? No? well, I want one anyway..lol

Maybe there's an app to make you more efficient? It would work to save you time, right?

that photo editing thingy is pretty cool!

I think one of these would be great for when I don't have my laptop with me!
canne37 2 years ago
I was thinking that. I've seen someone using one in place of a laptop for their job. It's kind of bizarre to see, really. They're there typing away on this tiny phone and it's like.. what the heck?
darkenedsunfire 2 years ago 4
Son just got an iphone and loves it! Of course, he paid for it himself since he's 23!

Great Phone and Great Apps. I will never look back!
MsBeachBummer 2 years ago
Finding the best price for textbooks that easily would be awesome. Of all the things you don't want to look at any longer than necessary, and don't want to waste more money on!
CatzRawr 2 years ago 5
I totally agree with this. The way university bookstores mark up prices is insane, so being able to have more choices will almost certainly end up saving you money.
cookcountycoug 2 years ago 2
I would love to get my hands on one of these phones. But since I just signed a two year contract on the one I have now, I can't see that happening any time soon.
kkd37 2 years ago 3
My daughter is now 11 and has a pre-paid cell phone, but I think it will be a long... time before I can justify buying her an i-phone.
212mommy 2 years ago
My son had his cell phone at the age of 9 and he is 11 now and still can't manage the money he spends in calls. The iphone definitely is not for so young kids, too much money on their hands.
teresaeloi 2 years ago
I read posts and see ads all the time about iphone applications and I feel so jealous.I really hope I could afford one. Maybe one day.
alisoncouper 2 years ago
I think 14 is an appropiate age. My daughter won't get hers until she turns 14.
missprimandprop 2 years ago
Yes, I think 8 is a little too young for a cell phone, especially one as expensive as this one.
bloggingfun 2 years ago
I would love to be 8 again with a cell phone, but I'd never pay attention in class if I had one. I have ADD as it is. I get bored, I'd be surfing. That'd be the end of me.

My daughter so.... wanted one of these phones. But... until I get one, I can't see her getting one in her near future. lol

wow 8 years old and has a cell phone, my teenager doesn't even have one yet, I told him when he gets a job and can afford the payment then he can have one. He is always watching videos here, hope he doesn't see an 8 year has one! Yikes!
CSIFanGal 2 years ago 3
I am SO with you on that one. I don't see what kid, teenager or younger, needs an iphone. I watched boys with one cheat at a trivia competition last weekend. I turned their asses in.
wanderingypsyrose 2 years ago
I had to go in an Apple store yesterday. I had a real reason to be there -- replacement battery for the laptop -- and what did I do? Played with an iPhone and drooled for half an hour.
videocatify 2 years ago
I got to play with one yesterday-- I didn't want to give it back! Guess it's time to get my own.
kellybebop3 2 years ago
I was just watching other video's on her as I'm debating on getting one. I was able to see a 18 month old turn on and unlock her mom's phone and then watched a teenager say what his top 10 apps were. Watching the toddler I was thinking.. if she can do this I can. But after watching the teenager I'm thinking.. maybe I better stick with my basic phone. It looked all confusing to me.
crunchymom09 2 years ago 2

If it makes you feel any better, my sister-in-law was feeling the same way, but ended up getting an iphone and she is so glad she did. Now she wouldn't trade it for anything.
snowbunny640 2 years ago 2
there should be an app for creating apps!
I don't own one but hopefully one day I will.
fiddledeedaaduu 2 years ago 3
I just learned that in addition to apps like this one, car companies are developing iPhone apps for their roadside assistance plans. How cool is that?
MissMelysse 2 years ago 2
Sounds like a lot of fun and functional apps. I worry that I'd get just as distracted with that as I do at home with my computer. Find an apartment or play Farkle?? Tough call...
insightfulcommentor 2 years ago 5
@insightfulcommentor I know what you mean. Even now, I have to turn off the phone and put it in a drawer so I'm not wasting time with games or texting.

I had a Girl Scout come to our door after school to see if I would by cookies and she was sending a text on her phone while I looked over the order form! Wonder if they get a badge for that now!

my friends daughter who is 8 even has one - I think that's a little too young but hey, it's not my kid. LoL
I would love one but like so many here - have issues with ATT's coverage. ack
MrsLoveNut 2 years ago 5
8?? That's.. way too young in my book. I never really understood giving a cell phone to someone that young, especially one that cost several hundred dollars.
turnerlova 2 years ago
I was on my sons fieldtrip today and another mom said there are apps on her iphone that are learning games for her daughter. All the way back to the school.. her daughter & friends were indeed playing games on her mom's iphone.
ktgnmom 2 years ago 3
There are more apps every day! I know they say this one is especially good for college kids, but the photo editing thing is something I'd use a few times a day to get other kids out of pictures of my daughter :)
MaggiesMum07 2 years ago 5
I love to get one of these phones, the apps are just simply amazing, I always drool over them when I am at the apple store downloading a new song.
LuvsaDeal 2 years ago
I saw the nerdiest App ever the other day (on my husbands phone, no less :P) Light saber simulator! It makes the noise and puts a light saber on the screen that you can actually move and what not... don't know how USEFUL it is, but he finds it amusing heh
Alonelymiracle 2 years ago 3

My son loves Star Wars so I could see him loving that app!
huntfishnut 2 years ago 3
Did that App that's like... a credit card ever come to fruition? I remember it was something with like a bar code and you could use it at stores instead of carrying around cards... but it concerned me because if you lost your phone or left it somewhere someone could use your card. Anyone know what I'm talking about? lol

@BlogChickie - me too! Haha, I always have mine near me... I listen to music at night before I go to sleep and then use it as an alarm in the morning when it's time to get up. Only time it's not physically ON me is in the shower :P

@Daddygavemeaname You create the apps; I want the job where you just get paid to test out all the apps that make your life easier!

My mom wants one of these.. but she is not very good at technology. Does anyone know if this is something that PARENTS can learn? All the young folks are kind of born with genes to work these things now ;) but what about the older people?
combmyhairlikeelvis 2 years ago 2
@combmyhairlikeelvis I don't think it's a problem. in my experience age has nothing to do with tech ability. let her try one out and see. given time to get comfortable with it and ask questions.. she'll be a pro in no time.
lsai3j99r 2 years ago 3
Wow - how will they improve from here? I remember my old bag phone...heck, I remember being impressed by a cordless phone in my house! Maybe the next generation of iPhones can do the dishes...
TheChocolatier6464 2 years ago 5
I seen a recipe app for it, that be kind of handy when trying to figure out what to plan for the dinner menu and your out at the store, and can grab the ingredients you need!

@MzCountryCooking
That would be a cool app to have! There are so many times I'm at the store and wonder what all I needed to make a certain dish again.

I dunno, it seems like a lot of money for a phone. Seems like a lot of money for something that you replace so often.
standing4fruitflies 2 years ago
@standing4fruitflies But that's just it... you wouldn't really replace an iPhone that often! Sure, there are some gadget junkies who will grab the latest incarnation every year, but plenty
