As an actress she was still ahead of all, kajol had hit in 1998, karisma in 1999, Aiswahriya is 2000 but no one could take the place of Madhuri. She was more serious about getting married. In surreal gajagamini or pukar she was fantastic . At those time she had her old lame films released but yet remained the best part of those films.

In dubai, she had shows on her name as early as in 1991 in Oman.
the "Madhuri Dixit Live" in Oman in 1991/92 the Bangalore one in 2000 are available on youtube, even the "Madhuri Dixit the Diva of Indian Cinema" promo is available on youtube. A stagerring achivement shows on her name for so many years span even in uft she was the one who was priased most by the New York Times. She really is awesome but I like the most is how good a person she is. God bless her.

how inetersting ! after this movie madhuri could not give any solo hit performance her career actually came to ane nd only devdas came as a prominent hit but then shahrukh khan got the credit and ashwaria left her behind in songs like dola ray dola. madhuri in dtph looked tired in many scenes. i think sri devi is a v good actress as compared she had everything in her. madhuri almost always tried to do everything that sri did.

I thank Filmfare for bestowing Madhuri with the Best Actress trophy. It was her way to proclaim that she's not done and dusted but here to stay in our hearts forever. Its perhaps the first and the only time Madhuri has lashed someone in public; a rare feat attempted by her! Kudos and bravo, woman!

Sabs, even though they maybe forgettable but atleast in each of those films, her character and role was very different. Chandramukhi infact wasn't bad, it was catered for children and sridevi plays a superwomen, its just that the genre wasn't popular back then as it is now, like Krissh ect. Army could of have been female version of sholay, but here the writers made big mistakes by adding unneccasery things, like love story of 5 men, the execution was bad, bad sri acting was the only good thing.
Totally agree wtih teh fact that SRI ws much more versatile. She could bring a zillion different expressions on her face in no time. Madhuris expressiosn were very redundant... "Dil to Pagal Hain" was not a movie to remember but filmfare awarded it bcoz of box office success,its story line was also ordinary,but song was very nice .I wonder how it became hit and why Yash Chopra directed this movie ,his Veer-zaara was far more matured like he did in Kabhi Kabhi,Silsila,Daag ,Chandni,Lamhe,and Darr.Karsihma's role first signed Urmila but later she quit for Judaai and Karishma quite Judaai for DTPH.Judaai,Satya gave Urmila a Sati-Sabitri image as she knew as sex symbol.
Rakhi, there are so many overrated movies that became hit. Beleive me many of those who loved these movie at their release time they just hate them now. They are hit on their times only while movies like Mother India, Pakeezah and Lamhe are all time gems. with time they even get better. just a simple view of these movies will make you realize how bad are some hit movies like Dil to pagal Hai. Its well known that Filmfare issue awards to performances in successful films only. Then again in DTPH, Madhuri acted opposite the touted no,1 at the time, Karisma, so I guess she deserved it by proving Karisma was nothing but another rival that came and went!
The only person who deserved to win this award other than Madhuri would be Tabu hands down. She was simply brilliant in Virasat. She did win the critics best actress award for it therefore that makes up for this one.

I'm not saying that the awards are always unfair, the actresses do give good performances, and I would be happy if Madhuri won the award for Mrityudand, but DTPH? Sridevi/Tabu should have won. Think of it, Kajol won an award for Fanaa, but Bipasha deserved the award. Rani won for Hum Tum, but Shilpa deserved for Phir Milenge more.

Well dont worry guys, Sridevi's performance is Judaai is cult classic, weather she got the award or not, she had critical acclaim and a nomination, DTPH it will remain one of yashraj's forgotten films that received awards due to Box office performance. Surprising also that Anil for Virasaat or Sunny Deol for Border were much more deserving for the award than SRK role in the movie.

Out of that year, Sunny deol deserved it for Border, or even Anil's brilliant performance in Virasaat. Out the female only Sridevi deserved the award, her character has many layers and many personality, then Tabu for her Virasaat. And Yes Karishma stole the show in DTPH, she even received national Award over main lead Madhuri.

"Dil to Pagal Hain" was not a movie to remember but filmfare awarded it bcoz of box office success,its story line was also ordinary,but song was very nice .I wonder how it became hit and why Yash Chopra directed this movie ,his Veer-zaara was far more matured like he did in Kabhi Kabhi,Silsila,Daag ,Chandni,Lamhe,and Darr.Karsihma's role first signed Urmila but later she quit for Judaai and Karishma quite Judaai for DTPH.Judaai,Satya gave Urmila a Sati-Sabitri image as she knew as sex symbol.

Rakhi, there are so many overrated movies that became hit. Beleive me many of those who loved these movie at their release time they just hate them now. They are hit on their times only while movies like Mother India, Pakeezah and Lamhe are all time gems. with time they even get better. just a simple view of these movies will make you realize how bad are some hit movies like Dil to pagal Hai. Actually, This video is proof to all Madhuri fans who claim that Madhuri was for a long time as number one which is not true at all. Madhuri reached her peak with Hum Aapke Hain Kaun 1994 and from then came down soo fast that in 1995 and 1996 all the critics suggested her that she should QUIT acting. filmfare always gives awards to hit movies. it should be about acting, not how much a film is popular. madhuri is a good actress, but roles of tabu in virasat and sri in judaai were better charachters. that's why aamir hates filmfare when they chose some romantic charachter role over his munna role in rangeela.

ive seen mrityudand and honestly , i thought its definitely not madhuris best perfromances , in regards to sridevi losing for judaai i guess because DTPH was far more popular than judaai , however this is where indian awards lack credibility , in west , the oscars are given to performances not per box office success., and i dont think madhuri beat karisma in the movie , if u remember clearly , karisma kapoor was on top in 1997 , and madhuri deleivered flops before and after DTPH

Its well known that Filmfare issue awards to performances in successful films only. Then again in DTPH, Madhuri acted opposite the touted no,1 at the time, Karisma, so I guess she deserved it by proving Karisma was nothing but another rival that came and went!

Filmfare? Call it Filmhit. That's how these awards are generally conducted. I'm not saying that the awards are always unfair, the actresses do give good performances, and I would be happy if Madhuri won the award for Mrityudand, but DTPH? Sridevi/Tabu should have won. Think of it, Kajol won an award for Fanaa, but Bipasha deserved the award. Rani won for Hum Tum, but Shilpa deserved for Phir Milenge more.

She got the popular (audience) votes actually while Sridevi and Tabu got the critics vote. Since in bollywood nobody gives a damn about critics b/c of their reputation Madhuri at the end won. also audience vote gets more wight over critics. its just like american idol. just relax and move on. if sridevi or tabu did not have any problem with it then you should not either. nonetheless both sridevi and tabu were fantastic in their perspective roles.

That award should have gone to tabu or sridevi because their performances were actually very strong, I think madhuri was just given that award because dil to pagal hai was a hit and they disregarded her individual performance in that film (madhuri has done much better in other roles for which she got no award)

D9NGR- Well remember it was a public vote. The critics supported for Sri while the public liked Madhuri more. Since public vote has more weight, Madhuri wins. Its like American Idol. I mean how many times Paula/simon really liked the singer but he/she got voted out because of public vote. Anyways I really liked the movie and thought Madhuri was fantastic. The one and only person I think should have won besides Madhuri was Tabu. And she did since she got the critics best actress filmfare.
