Excellent question. We have (at this point, HAD) the same problem here in the States; young people not interested in politics or voting. Did PM Brown ever answer the question?
New Labour has not only re-emphasised traditional social democratic themes, it has embraced an agenda that many feel has abandoned socialist values in their most moderate form. Labour has always been beset by an internal ideological tension between democratic socialism and democracy. New Labour is a manifestation of this internal conflict in a post-modern context, which has been exacerbated by the need to acknowledge the legacy of Thatcherism whilst rejecting its more right-wing ideals.
Yes, the Labour Party has traditionally been the main vehicle for socialism in Britain. However, relating abstract ideological principles and beliefs to specific realities and contexts of electoral politics, inevitably involves re-conceptualisation and adaptation to a new social and economic context. The realities of the post-industrial age led to the rise of New Labour under Blair as an attempt to restore the party's electoral fortunes. Labour can no longer afford to adopt socialist policies
Simple answer - there is virtually no difference between Labour and the Tories. In Britain there is a rough consensus among the main political parties on political issues: the acceptance of a Welfare State; the desirability of decentralized power; a system of mixed economy and of political pluralism.
ID Cards - Conservatism is individualistic and merits less government interference when it comes to the economy, but leans towards more countenancing authoritarianism when it comes to law and order. Therefore, by definition the Tories should support ID Cards as it reduces crime and maintains social order.
Since when has extensive police paper work been a component of socialist policy? You really are misinformed
Part about id cards is your opinion. Unless you want to tracked 24/7 i don't see why criminals would carry id cards. It won't do a thing.
Socialism leads to central control by the government. Police paper work comes from central government. We should allow the police to do there own job instead of thinking government knows best.
Yes! millions of regulation. Do you know how many regs there are to build a home. To change a tap. To use a chain saw. To put up scaffolding. To put up a sign, ect
Well, not really. It's ideological fact - ID cards are implemented to prevent crime, therefore conservatives, supportive of more emphasis on law and order, should support their implementation.
Socialism involves central control by the government, yes. But there is a key issue here, that you seem to be confused with, central government control is not solely a principle of socialism.
In more cases than not, government does know best and thats essentially why government should remain an absolute ideal. Regulations are put into place for a reason, to make sure things are regulated and kept in order. I think you're taking this issue a bit too far.
I'm not taking it too far. If someone wants to paint a second floor window they are, by law, meant to use scaffolding. For decades a ladder has been fine but because of central control people can't make there own decision. This is just one instance of mass waste.
These sorts of regulation waste billions a year. Governments don't know best. Government do not fight crime, they do not build homes, they do not teach in schools. Let the specialist do there job.
By making that statement you confirm my assertion that you're taking this too far. That's the best example you can come up with?
Sure, governments don't carry out everyday jobs - obviously. They don't fight crime, but they allocate funds to emergency services. They don't teach in schools, but they maintain the 'state' education system through funding and observation. Quite clearly, you're lacking any direction or cohesion in your argument. I'm finding it difficult to understand your point
See how much it costs you to legally change a bath tap.
You obviously don't understand what i'm saying because you think it's a necessity for government to run your life.
What good will it do by having someone maintain and regulate a school, police force or anything else when the regulaters don't understand the organization. This is why we have capitalism.
We need government, without it life is, as Thomas Hobbes describes "nasty, brutish and short". You have to understand there are two types of freedom. Positive and negative. Negative freedom is the "freedom from" state coercion or control. Positive freedom is the "freedom to" achieve your higher, more rational self's ambitions, and often requires state intervention. Essentially, negative freedom inevitably leads to positive freedom. We need government to prevent people from fucking their lives up
I don't see how these examples lead you to assume that Labour is socialist. You are a confused person - if the government is socialist, and society is organised via socialist policies, then why did you just state that we live in a capitalist society?
If the government rolled back the frontiers of the welfare state and we wouldn't have a free, state education system. If the goverment withdrew its funding and maintenance of the emergency services, they could not run as efficiently as they do.

Most people realise that a shadow agenda is being pushed as demonstrated with the failed EU referendum and going ahead anyway despite the clear oposition from the people. Who in their right mind would trust or be impressed by politics after such a betrayal?
you're a complete idiot. He asked for questions under 30 seconds, and if politics is too boring for you, go jingle some keys because it's not boring, and the job of a PM isn't to entertain plebians
I found this video Ask the PM : How are you going to make politics interesting? while searching for Politics on Wednesday and it's the best video I saw ever!! view it at divineclips . com
i dont think we're fed up with all the scandals etc but i agree about ur modern politics thought because they have very similar views. ur question is a very very difficult one to answer because its not the politicians thoughts its the thoughts of society x
if you think having no civil rights might get you interested in politics, then watch 'taking liberties' its an independent film docu - prize nominated, which details the corruption of every civil right there is.
when the law doesnt protect you anymore, you might start paying attention to the law, and the process that makes them. or, the government that obliterates the most important ones of all.
we have no choice as to who leads the party. no candidates or anything. that is down to what each party decides... not a part of british politics that I am very happy with 2bh
Wow you sound like a lot of people I know here in the US. We can't tell democrats from republicans, most candidates seem the same in many ways, people don't care and are generally apathetic regarding the issues and so much sensationalism of scandals and such make it difficult to take any of them seriously. Seems like this is a more global than local phenomenon.
Mr. Brown asked me to pass along his pla on how he plans to get young people back in the polling booths:
"We plan to dispense free drugs with alcohol chasers and allow each young voter 15 minutes with a prostitute of their gender- or orientation-choice after casting their vote."
people not voting is an issue all over the world,in my country the political system is so corrupted that no one cares anymore. u did an excellent question, shame u didnt get ur hair cut...your alice band attracts way too much attention.
I completely agree with you about not voting being a major issue. Elections are coming up in the U.S. and almost all the people running for president terrify me. I am going to vote though, I personally don't think people have a right to complain unless they actually are taking the time to try and make a difference (not counting people who can't vote yet). I live around Detroit so I know all about government scandals; it takes priority on the news at night.
Jazza, I'm so glad that you keep bringing up important political issues, many other popular vloggers just don't seem like they can be bothered, but you maintain your silliness despite serious subjects, and you're still so funny. So people can be both, and I think they should be contributing more... Don't cut the hair!
i think that these scandals are used to capture the interest of youth voters since politics is quite possibly the hardest thing to be amused by as our superficiality is becoming increasingly evident.here in America these scandals and the substance, or lack thereof, in the ridiculous stories become the basis to which people vote for politicians and its getting increasingly worse. oh well im 16 i love politics and i really like this idea of getting the youth involved through questions its lovely.
That was an excellent question. And probably a very important one as well, since I personally don't see anyone my age interested in politics, and that really is a problem (or a good thing, for certain politicians...)
So you're studying spanish? You MUST do a collab with me :D lol
We have a saying in Germany: "If you want to drain the swamp, don't ask the toads". (Wer den Sumpf trockenlegen will, fragt lieber nicht bei den Kröten). I think the likes of Gordon, David and Co are prime toads here.
THAT Jazza is a brilliant question (supported by an equally brilliant analysis) and it should somehow be made the official election issue - maybe not an election at all but a referendum on POLITICS versus DIRECT DEMOCRACY (as in Switzerland) where ALL important issues get decided by the people themselves. Look at the lobby lists for any given MP and it's quite clear that the good ole constituency (which put him/her there 1st) comes off a poor twentieth. Or fiftieth. Or maybe hundredth.
good question - i totally agree. i'm quite a bit younger then you so i can't actually vote, but even so, whenever i look at the political parties or people talk about poitics in this country i generally switch off. its just so borng, and as you said, all the parties ae basically exactly the same, i'm sure i would have no idea who to vote for if i could vote in the next elections.
Hey this is great! I'm currently working on my final project for college (i'm studying political sciences), and I'm interviewing high school teens, trying to find out if they are interested in politics. And sadly, the interest is really low... That's why I think your question is very interesting, I would really like to hear an answer about that!
Ademas de eso, no sabia que estudias el espanol! Yo tambien lo estudie. Una pregunta, como haces para pronunciar los "r"? :P Just teasing you :D Besito
los puedo pronunciar bein. Vivia y trabajaba en Cataluna, por eso mi accent no es demasiado ingles. Pero de verdad, se puede mejorarlo por copiarlos que lo puedan hacer y practicar. Dalo tiempo.
im really glad you seem to care about politics jazza. im 14, and i hate it when kids around my age don't give a shit about politics or having a say in who runs our country, especially when girls say they'll never vote, even after the suffragettes have been explained to them! it annoys me more when adults do it! i had to correct my form teacher the other day about who the mayor of london is! rant over!
im taking gov politics as a gcse, so hopefully i'll acquire a skill i can use later in life!
they have the right to vote and it is totaly their choie if they do or not, but if they feel totaly uninspired by what's on offer then who can blame them?
people need a reason to vote. I think the US is in a good state of possible change and rallying together at the moment, there are some real options on the table. We however don't seem to be as lucky at the moment, unfortunately.
ESSEX!! (i'm from essex :]). I wish more people would vote, like the other week only 45% of people did and they were making a big thing out of how so many people voted for a change but it's still less then half?!
Yeah, same in Belgium! Politics doesn't interest most people over here, and we actually all HAVE to vote, so most people have no idea what or who they are voting for! And it's not really helping that we STILL have no government yet, after about a year now...
then we need to change that. vote in people who arn't absolute pilloks and if there arn't any we like, get someone who we think can do the job well to run or even put ourselves up there.
Jazza is proud of Cathy ! **Cathy does a "YAY!" Dance** But I'm only 16 :( But I'm 17 this year !! YAY! All my friends are like little Cathy behind a wheel. Oh God ! xD Cathy Loves Jazza :D He is awesome ! Quote that bitch !!! I love you really (:
I havent thought about politicts for a while now until you brought it up, i just gotta say your exactly right, politics has spiralled outta control and it would be nice to get back on track to what its ment to be about, im not sure to vote or not in the next elections. :P but...meh does gordon go you youtube? i bet he does...to try and stay 'hip'... bye
I think the whole political situation in the UK needs changing.
Parties are becoming blurred and votes seem to be more about geography and upbringing than individual awareness of the issues. Its an extremely sad state of affairs the extent to which people are indifferent and in contrast the narrowminded bias some people have installed in them from their parents.
Also, I can't help but notice how polite all the uploaded videos are, even if it's clear that some of them don't agree with him. A lot of "thank you for giving me this opportunity to ask you" remarks. If our president did this, I'll bet we'd have a lot of videos saying "fuck you!" Haha.
here in brazil we must vote if we dont vote we cant leave the country and a bunch of other stuff we can even be arrested, wich I don´t think its the better way to make people interested in politics
but what if you have no desire for any of the options to be representing you and your country? no offence to your country, but that seems a little silly.
You need to read a bit about politics in the Roman Empire/Republic. If you think modern politics has lost its way, you're in for quite a shock. It's actually tamed down a good deal.
It is a shame, it's a shame that once,t he leaders of parties and other members actually got into politics to make a difference, eg universal suffrage. But now it seems there is no "real reason" as such, and maybe it's just the money!
under a minute actualy and other people have posted longer ones than this. I think it's more of a guideline so people don't submit 10 minute long essays. but thnks for caring
Thats a good question. I think America is having that same problem but instead of being interested its more on the lines of the fact that we dont know who to trust. Its just been a big cluster of mudslinging fail with so many contradictions that it makes me sad to call myself and american. I wish you the best of luck and hope that your country fairs better than mine at the moment.
You might want to make the next video shorter, the page says "We can only accept videos under 1 minute long ... and no party political content please." :/
Yeah, sorry, Jazza, I didn't mean to imply that your video had an affiliation. I just copied and pasted too much. Hopefully he'll answer questions over a minute. I noticed a lot of the other videos had gone over the "limit" as well.
very good question Jazza but i think he probably say something like having a channel in you tube is a way he is trying to make it interesting for young people
politics, i don't even know what to say about it, i don't really follow it and i never have and the only thing that i've foung interesting in a long while is the whole thing with Obama and Hilary, but still it just doesn't capture my eye.
so okay...proper comment now: I have to agree...most people don't care anymore about the political parties and politics in general...so good question...I hope he'll reply to it...

correction: tension between democratic socialism and "social" democracy
socialdemocrat89 3 years ago
Yes, the Labour Party has traditionally been the main vehicle for socialism in Britain. However, relating abstract ideological principles and beliefs to specific realities and contexts of electoral politics, inevitably involves re-conceptualisation and adaptation to a new social and economic context. The realities of the post-industrial age led to the rise of New Labour under Blair as an attempt to restore the party's electoral fortunes. Labour can no longer afford to adopt socialist policies
socialdemocrat89 3 years ago
If there not going to have sociialist policies (high tax) then how are they different to the tories?
Labour continue to flood the country with socialist policies. Id cards, home buyer packs, police paper work and the millions of other regulations.
doford 3 years ago
Simple answer - there is virtually no difference between Labour and the Tories. In Britain there is a rough consensus among the main political parties on political issues: the acceptance of a Welfare State; the desirability of decentralized power; a system of mixed economy and of political pluralism.

Look at the lobby lists for any given MP and it's quite clear that the good ole constituency (which put him/her there 1st) comes off a poor twentieth. Or fiftieth. Or maybe hundredth.
Marcomanseckisax 3 years ago
and that my dear Jazza is a question that has been debated since the begining of time, or the begining of democracy at least.
btw! nice banner!

good question - i totally agree. i'm quite a bit younger then you so i can't actually vote, but even so, whenever i look at the political parties or people talk about poitics in this country i generally switch off. its just so borng, and as you said, all the parties ae basically exactly the same, i'm sure i would have no idea who to vote for if i could vote in the next elections.
oh, and i loved the ending - your so funny!

Dalo tiempo.

im really glad you seem to care about politics jazza. im 14, and i hate it when kids around my age don't give a shit about politics or having a say in who runs our country, especially when girls say they'll never vote, even after the suffragettes have been explained to them! it annoys me more when adults do it! i had to correct my form teacher the other day about who the mayor of london is! rant over!
im taking gov politics as a gcse, so hopefully i'll acquire a skill i can use later in life!

ok,
breath my love, it's ok.
they have the right to vote and it is totaly their choie if they do or not, but if they feel totaly uninspired by what's on offer then who can blame them?
people need a reason to vote. I think the US is in a good state of possible change and rallying together at the moment, there are some real options on the table. We however don't seem to be as lucky at the moment, unfortunately.
rhymingwithoranges 3 years ago
ESSEX!! (i'm from essex :]). I wish more people would vote, like the other week only 45% of people did and they were making a big thing out of how so many people voted for a change but it's still less then half?!
CharmerTrunk 3 years ago
exactly, but that as in the local elections, so I hope the general one will draw more people in. There is still time for us to get inspired I gues.
ESSEX FTW!

Yeah, same in Belgium! Politics doesn't interest most people over here, and we actually all HAVE to vote, so most people have no idea what or who they are voting for! And it's not really helping that we STILL have no government yet, after about a year now...

im sorry but no matter what we do, politics will remain the same-a load of crap!
the only variation between the partys are the different pricks that represen them!
harsh but true!!
greenpixay 3 years ago
then we need to change that. vote in people who arn't absolute pilloks and if there arn't any we like, get someone who we think can do the job well to run or even put ourselves up there.

Yeah, I'm not 18 yet, but I have no ideo who I am going to vote for. As I just think politics is boring tbh. I am going to vote.
Because people complain about the goverment and all sorts of things, when they don't make an effort to vote.

I think it is going to take more than one PM.
Anywhos : )

Also, I can't help but notice how polite all the uploaded videos are, even if it's clear that some of them don't agree with him. A lot of "thank you for giving me this opportunity to ask you" remarks. If our president did this, I'll bet we'd have a lot of videos saying "fuck you!" Haha.

here in brazil we must vote if we dont vote we cant leave the country and a bunch of other stuff we can even be arrested, wich I don´t think its the better way to make people interested in politics
melunknown 3 years ago
but what if you have no desire for any of the options to be representing you and your country? no offence to your country, but that seems a little silly.

You need to read a bit about politics in the Roman Empire/Republic. If you think modern politics has lost its way, you're in for quite a shock. It's actually tamed down a good deal.

rhymingwithoranges 3 years ago
It is a shame, it's a shame that once,t he leaders of parties and other members actually got into politics to make a difference, eg universal suffrage. But now it seems there is no "real reason" as such, and maybe it's just the money!

Jazza, the rules say that the video must be under 30 secs.
Neavers 3 years ago
under a minute actualy and other people have posted longer ones than this. I think it's more of a guideline so people don't submit 10 minute long essays. but thnks for caring
;)
rhymingwithoranges 3 years ago
Thats a good question. I think America is having that same problem but instead of being interested its more on the lines of the fact that we dont know who to trust. Its just been a big cluster of mudslinging fail with so many contradictions that it makes me sad to call myself and american. I wish you the best of luck and hope that your country fairs better than mine at the moment.

You might want to make the next video shorter, the page says "We can only accept videos under 1 minute long ... and no party political content please." :/
You are still awesome.
lilacbreeder 3 years ago
I don't mention any affiliation to any party, in fact I say I am not affiliated to any, so it is free of party political content.
as for the length afew people have gone over, I think it is more a guide line.
rhymingwithoranges 3 years ago
Yeah, sorry, Jazza, I didn't mean to imply that your video had an affiliation. I just copied and pasted too much. Hopefully he'll answer questions over a minute. I noticed a lot of the other videos had gone over the "limit" as well.
lilacbreeder 3 years ago
very good question Jazza but i think he probably say something like having a channel in you tube is a way he is trying to make it interesting for young people
