The real problem with this show was that "Gilligan's Island" was running non-stop in syndication at the same time as this show. You couldn't help compare the two. With the original running all the time, there was no need for a remake
This was syndicated as a first-run series to local stations in the fall of 1973 [WCBS-TV in New York was the "flagship" station]- it lasted 26 episodes. Apparently, someone at the successor to Metromedia Producers Corporation failed to renew the series' copyright in 2001, and that's why it entered public domain- and why most of the episodes have popped up on videocassettes and DVD's over the years.
I remember this and I loved it! Of course it's essentially the same as Gilligan's Island but I could watch Bob Denver in anything. His comic timing and reactions were amazing.
Is this show in the public domain? That might explain why I found a DVD of three episodes on sale in Sydney for $2. I never expected this show to be on DVD! It was shown in Australia in 1976 on weekday afternoons during the non-ratings period.
I remember watching this very short-lived show as a 10 year old. It's definitely a Sherwood Schwartz sitcom...hilariously goofy and silly! Seems like an attempt to create another Gilligan's Island via Wild Wild West. Apparently that didn't fly! Another failed early '70s sitcom I remember was "Me and the Chimp", starring Ted Bessell (who played Donnie on "That Girl")
I remember seeing this on "TV Land" back when they were still showing interesting offbeat shows and not just another run-of-the-mill rerun station as it is today. If this hadn't been created by Sherwood Schwartz, you'd say it was just a blaintant "GI" rip-off.
Wow you can even tell which GI characters each person is LOL!

I think this show's biggest mistake is to basically be Gilligan's Island in the Wild West.

I think it's what makes it so funny, because the concept is so cheezy and it's such a blatant ripoff of GI.

@cinemavirtualis Its not a "ripoff" because it was made by the same people that made Gilligan's Island.
