15 years ago I heard some young Macedonian musicians play folk music at a Macedonian wedding. They played traditional songs but with modern instruments..keyboards, bass, sax. I spoke to them and I said, you have a unique sound, you can take it further, to a new level, like the Irish Riverdance. I don't think they understood. But since those days, there has been an explosion of sounds coming from the Balkans, particularly from Macedonia. All great. Yours is no exception. Lots of feeling.
Blagoj, this is amazing! Also to see Lars as well is lovely. How are you? I hope we can meet again one day in the near future. Are you in Malmo or America now? Lots of love, your english friend, Emily x
I have always thought that the way the clarinet is played in the Macedonian folk songs is beautiful. How long does it take to be able to play this good?
Youre free to interpret songs as you wish of course, especially folkloristic songs, but keep in mind that each song or piece of music has a soul and meaning on its own. Jovano for example is about a man, who waits for his beloved. She is not dead or out of reach for ever, she is just simply not comming, which implies a more nervous longing, not melancholy.
Sorry that I respond a little late. Dont get me wrong, I like your version, but check out the version here on Youtube by an American band called: The Balkan Situations. I dont know them either, but to my opinion they understood the spirit of this song better. Its not a montonously sad and melancholic song, but one who has something more than that. I would describe it as awful heart pain ;) cheers
and i think that i understand what Rogi32 means; the music is very beautiful, but if you compare it with gypsies or Macedonian Svadbari (musicians who are playing on weddings), no one of your ensemble is showing very much visable expression ;) so when you play Macedonian music, play like a MACEDONIAN =D and GOODLUCK!!!
