  • Sorry to have to point this out to you, I play high school football as starting kicker, and you do not know what you are doing. If you had any clue of what you were doing, you would have pointed out that it is not supposed to hurt your foot. And if you need advice on how to kick a kickoff, don't take it from this guy.

  • @JCarlson1996 As a person who had multiple scholarship offers and was ranked the top kicker in the state my senior year of high school, had the best field goal percentage in the conference in college, and won numerous awards...I am in a perfect position to give advice. I would love to tee up side by side next to you and show you how it's done. I know more than you about the kicking game in my little pinky finger and your ignorant comment validates my point.

  • @JCarlson1996 Furthermore, why would I have to point out that it isn't suppose to hurt your foot? That's not an instructional tip. It is a common sense thing. I have learned from Several NFL kickers and no one ever told me that little fact. Enjoy high school kid. Learn some humility, too. You'll learn in life that you don't have a clue of what you are talking about. You'll look back at conversations such as these and think, "Man. Was I that stupid." I assure you that the answer is yes.

  • @JCarlson1996 you must have a coach at your school like I do. my coaches think theyre back in the 80 when it comes to kicking. they dont know anything about "mechanics". Ive been kicking for years and have done HOURS AND HOURS of research and watched NFL kickers for HOURS AND HOURS. Ive been to a couple of camps too. this guys knows exactly what hes talking about. keep it up finklekicker

  • @gusbus2013 thanks @gusbus. I appreciate that. Keep up the hard work!

  • yeah, mine as well kick the ball across the street through the neighbors window

  • should you kick with the side of your feet or the tip

  • you should make an onside kick video

  • hey im a 13 yr old kicker and sometimes when i kick it my ankle starts hurting i dont know if thats normal. please respond.

  • @THEWAFFLELOVERS115 happens to me to im not sure why but ive heard if it starts to hurt it means your kicking it wrong

  • fake and gay

  • @pwner3211 like you

  • I was a soccer player and got picked up by my school's football team after a couple years. I am very consistent however i am consistently left (hooking the ball). I'd like to even it out to make my consistency even better. Any tips?? turning my hips to fast? any other common problems that i can look at?

  • O.O not kicking it hard thats far WTF LOL NICE

  • uhm what cleats should i use?

  • so when i kick a field goal or a kickoff i have more trouble getting the ball off the ground but i can kick around 50 yards PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

  • im 11 and can kick 45 to 50 yards and im trying to learn how to kick further. everyone says soccer style but when i do that it goes nowhere. (i dont play soccer is that why i cant kick it soccer style?)

  • @MrHeadhunter07 probably im in england and when they say kick it football (soccer) style i cant kick it that way so id just kick it normally but if you need to just search up how to take soccer free kicks

  • omg guys think about what your doing when you kickoff. btw bud my average punt is about 50 yards go monmouth. hay fkdydd if you think he runs funny you prolly look like a retard its not how you run its what the resolution turns out to be

  • I cant seem to get height on my kick. Why?

  • i can kick a field goal farther than i can kick off....why is this?

  • ill a freshman in high school my furthest kick is about 40 yards i can get them on my good days but for the most part i kick 35 consistently my problem is i always hook my kicks to the left and im wondering is there any way that i can stop that from happening no matter what i do i always seem to hook them also my kickoffs are ok to for a freshman but i was also wondering how i could get my kicks higher without sacrificing distance? i follow threw every time and hit it as hard as i can help?

  • @MrLegitimatized are you locking your knee and ankle i used to have to the same problem and ever since i locked my ankle my kicks goes straight

  • @gh2toy i will have to try it in practice tomorrow i will be sure to tell you if it helps thanks for the suggestion

  • YAHA!!! I can kick 50 yards! Go Moroto HS!!!

  • He run so funny

  • I KICK FOR ROCKVILLE HIGH SCHOOL BITCHES.

  • im getting frustrated because no matter how hard i try it seems i can only get 30 yards. but i can get like 45 punting

  • cool. im a punter on my freshman football team. but i want to be a place kicker. ive looked up some things and i think the only thing or one of them im not doing right is putting my plant foot ahead of the ball. if i think to much i mess up my step count and lose my accuracy. it just feels un natural to go past the football before u kick it to me. i here you are sopossed to kick the ball before the half mark of your swing. any ideas on how to train it so it seems ok?

  • Hey I'm a sophomore in highschool. I love to kick! I would love to go far in my kicking career. So how can I do that? Oh I can kick it far but I need work on getting more air time on the ball. It needs more height to it. How can I get it higher?

  • hi. when i kick field goals, im okay im trying to work on consistency.but how can i kick farther? also when i tried using a tee for a kick off it went horribly like 3 yards forward. and im confused because i kicked it the exact same way i do field goals. any help? thanks

  • I dont understand what part of my foot i use to kick it. People say kick it like a soccerball, but i dont play soccer-.-

Then they say use the top part of my foot, i cant even see how thats possible-.-

I ussually use my toes, i can do it, but not far at all and it hurts. So i just need to know what part of my foot, so can someone tell me ASAP ?

    * A football kicker on a team, not just anyone please-.-

  • @ChrisSwagCrew You kick it slighty left of your toes i dont kick in a team, But it ussaully works

  • ur supposed to land on ur kicking foot

  • im a soccer player and a senior in high school and decided to kick for the football team this year.. I have no problems with field goals, bang 50s and 55s fairly easily but when i try to kickoff very often i end up shanking it or hitting it really short i can rarely make clean contact but when i do make clean contact i hit it into the endzone no problem. any suggestions on how to make cleaner contact every time on the kickoff and not shank it?

  • my cleats keep hitting the ground before i contact, but when i raise my leg, all that happens is the ball goes straight in the dirt. any ideas?

  • @noleb123 move you plant foot forward :)

  • 2:25 ufo not kidding

  • I'm only a sophomore in high school and I'm competing for the kickoff spot just so i can have some fun in special teams ;D. I never played soccer before so I don't really have a kicking technique. I usually just take a couple steps back and hit the ball with my toe and it actually goes pretty far! It was my first day today doing it. Do you recommend I try lacing the football or keep on toe bashing it ?

  • Heyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!.. get Your Motherfucking football off my lawn lol

  • when i came back to kicking i wasnt able to kick my hardest cause the pain would come back. so ive been kicking softly getting about 45 yards with 3 steps now im back to normal but idk what style to kick with. ive been taught 2 different forms and i have 1 from soccer. my friend his 1st time kicking he got a 50 yard field goal and he prolly used soccer form. how can i get more distance with the soccer form please help.

  • Hey 1 question / statement. ive never kicked in a real game yet but ive been practicing for about 4 months now. i started in a gym but my hips started hurting but i kept practicing even through the pain. pain lasted for a whole 3 months until finally i went to ductors and they said its a fracture and i should take a break.

  • Thank you

  • hello, im from scotland and am playing collegiate soccer in the states. i take all the free kicks etc for my soccer team and the football team wanted me to try kicking for them so i did, field goals arent a problem i can kick them fine with either foot. kickoffs they want me to do but i'm struglin with gettin it into the endzone, if i do its too low then i put more height on it it gets to the ten or five. i think its my follow through or plant step is too far away cos it dont feel clean kick

  • @hendinho87 common problem for soccer players...field goals are usually always fine but when it comes to kickoffs there is a struggle...without seeing you and based solely on my experience with coaching soccer players....i imagine you are kicking off the same way you would kick a shot on target. try standing up tall and explode through the ball like you would a goal kick.

  • @hendinho87 i bet you are probably leaning over the ball too much when you kick, making it go lower. and when you kick it higher you are probably not getting the same explosion. that is just purely a guess without looking at your kicks. if you have a video of your kickoffs, upload it and i can do a more complete analysis.

  • Hey, I've been injured since my freshmen year. I'm finally playing my Senior year. I've seem to lost my touch. I can't kick off or kick a field goal. When I kick, the ball goes to the side, either the left or right, mainly to my right. I'm frustrated since this is my last year and I want to get my touch back. Can you help me? Once again, I can't kick anymore, kick offs or field goals. What do you suggest? Thanks.

  • @Samuel101111 if you will make a video of you kicking, I'll be glad to take a look at it and help you

  • @finklekicker Ok, I'll get on it.

  • @finklekicker Exactly what happened to me with @Samuel101111 except I'm a sophmore and its very big for me to get into kicking...Freshman year i use to kick great the first few games then coaches started noticing that ive been kicking at a shorter distance and to the right like samuel said..Idk if its where on my foot that im kicking at, or what? I got moved into 2nd string for a kid that kicks touchbacks on our team only becausing of toe bashing...Please help me, thanks

  • @TheKicker02 plant farther away from the ball

  • @TheKicker02 Just start wearing cleats and you'll get used to it

  • @TheKicker02 the hurdle should come naturally when you are kicking off. Not something you should try to concentrate on and learn. There are techniques to try to committ it to muscle memory like setting up a mini hurdle infront of the tee. Just try to land on your kicking leg on a kickoff but not a field goal.

  • @TheKicker02 What questions do you specifically have that I didn't cover in the videos?

  • I am a female who may be kicker (kick offs, extra points, field goal kicker) for an all male team. I am in need of practice and technique work. I grew up playing soccer for 16 years. I have strong legs, but I'm mostly worried about my snap/technique for kicking. Any advice for conditioning?

  • i think he lost that football

  • verry good video, i'm in 8th grade and i kicked a 50 yard kick for my last game and it was kick ass!

  • when i kck off i seem to not be able to flatten my foot there fore sometimes my kicks arent as accurate so i was curious if you know any stretches or workouts to help with flattining my foot at kickoff

  • @joeyelkins2895 NOT REALLY...IT'S JUST PRACTICE AND MUSCLE MEMORY

  • i was looking into some of the older comments, and noticed that there was a comment about shoes, what kind of shoes have worked for you, or any other soccer style kickers?

  • Im from england and was just watching some rugby tips and stuff and came to this:). But i was wandering why such a long run up? i can kick 44m with a few steps.

    Just asking thanks

  • @MouldAndMildew ....I, and most kickers in the states, can do that as well. This is a techniqe for kicking of which is much different than kicking for a goal...when kicking a field goal we only take around three steps back and two to the side, regardless of distance. This technique for kicking off to the other team is something we are all taugh at an early age. Not everyone takes this many steps in their run for a kickoff. Some take more, some take less.

  • Thanks! Awesome. But i have a problem though like when i am going to kick of some how when i kick it it goes low it doesnt go high i am 12 and i am about to play in a midgets team. They kick field goals and all that stuff and ive being playing soccer for 3 years (Which im pretty good at it) but i kick it you much the soccer style. I just need some further explanation on kicking it high.

    I appreaciate your time.

  • @bea27997 thanks for your comment! it's hard to pin-point why you aren't getting height without seeing you actually kick. there could be several causes or only one but it would be hard for me to say without a video. if you can upload a video, i'll be happy to take a look at it and help you in anyway i can!

  • @TheKicker02 soccer style

  • @TheKicker02 Wait a few years...you're too young for your muscles to really be developing...you'll start seeing more strength when you reach 14 or so...but keep kicking and all of the work you are doing now will build muscle...it just won't build very quickly. You'll see the difference as you get older. Do not lift weights! At your age it will hurt you more than help you.

  • thank bro i went out for kicker for my high school and i made it cuz od this video

  • @elbeny1 that's great to hear man!

  • dang that was hecka far

  • could u wear regular tennis shoes for kicking off

  • this is hilarious. It is like an SNL skit

  • damn kicked farther then i expected

  • Great lesson...

  • Thanks very good video

  • im trying to walk on to a college somewhere and i wanted to know if you knew any excersices or anything to improve my kicking....i have a good boot, but nothings ever good enough haha

  • What shoes would you suggest to start with?

  • @forsakensamael It's different for everyone... Don't wear football cleats. Try different kinds of soccer cleats.

  • @forsakensamael use soccer...way lighter and more comfortable for the most part

  • does having the right shoes make much difference ?

  • @forsakensamael Yes. A lot of difference.

  • I am a freshman in high school, and is the starting feild goal kicker, i have the accuracy down, but the height and distance not too much, how can I get better at kickoffs, and feildgoals. Yesteray I hit a few 30 yard feild goals off the ground (i do not kick off a block). I seem to mess up mainly looking up, and my steps when i run up to kick the ball. Any advise. . .

  • @bmorris640489 I would need to see a video of you kicking to give you any helpful advise

  • @finklekicker alright, ill try to take one during practice somtime

  • @finklekicker alright ill try to post one

  • @bmorris640489 I started kicking about 9 weeks ago, im a Junior in HS and the varsity kicker. Seriously its my first 9 weeks of football ever. But whenever i kick off the ground, it helps to take a breath after i've taken my steps back, just relax, calm down, then when the ball is snaped, kick, and keep looking down, imagine that the ball is still where your holder was holding it. You'll know by how your foot hit the ball if you made it or not. =)

  • @ThatGuyFromNevada222 You are exactly right about relaxing. However, judging by your comment; that you are a junior in high school and have only been kicking nine weeks, I strongly recommend using the block for your field goals. I have found a lot of high school kickers wanting to kick off of the ground since they have seen my videos. The reason I showed kicking off of the ground was for kickers about to enter college. In high school there is no reason to kick off the ground. (cont'd)-->

  • @ThatGuyFromNevada222 Use the block to your advantage. College scouts don't care whether or not you are kicking off of the ground in high school. In fact they probably don't even look for it if someone doesn't tell them because it is so rare. Sure if you can do it, it will be to your advantage but if you can't don't spend time trying to learn it when you have that block there to help you out! Best of luck!

  • holy crap that wass far!!!!

  • MEOW!!

  • thanks a lot dude..its my first year playing football and im in high-school this vid gave me a better idea about taking my steps thank a lot.

  • By the way, i am from Saratoga High, California and I will next year be the head JV special teams kicker.

  • Wow! I am injured right now from getting surgery from tarring my Librium. I can still kick, but I can't play this season of my high school football team. I was wondering, how do you kick more yards? I can so far kick at the most, 40 yards

  • yes i like the tee

  • do you like that tee...i have one of those and am thinking of buying a ground zero kick off tee and a separate place kicking block(high school)

  • Great video on the essentials of kicking a football. My son has been studying and practicing kicking the football. This will help him play on the Lansing Michigan Warrior Football team here in Lansing, Michigan. Their website can be found at

  • kicking a foot ball is easy cheesy

  • @00Jesusrocks oh yeah... it's real easy... that's why everyone can do it. get real. it takes years of work and mental toughness...based on your comment i can tell you've never experienced your heart beating with ten seconds on the clock, down by two, your team and school counting on you, and thousands of eyes focused on you... yeah that's real easy

  • @finklekicker the pressure sure is different. i just said kicking a football was easy. but playing a game is way different. i didnt mean to be rude

  • @finklekicker indeed im kick off for my freshman team and i do good at times and bad at times :D

  • @finklekicker i know how u feel.......... 10 seconds left in the game, on the 45 yard line and it was up to me to kick the field goal...... i sank it. thats a 55 yarder and im 13

  • @skeetshootertx WOOOW your so cool dipshit 13 years old dont even get to kick you fucktard

  • @00Jesusrocks i understand that you didn't mean to be rude... but kicking a football is not easy... i am an athlete...not only a kicker.... there are so many variables that go into kicking a football even when you are just practicing that are not easy... would you say that shooting a three pointer in basketball and making them consistently is easy? no... the same thing with kicking.

  • @finklekicker Punting is the hardest position in football. Kicking takes more skill than any other position in the game. I agree with you 100%

  • What part of your foot do you kick the ball on kickofff?

  • okie dokie thanks!!!

  • im so jealous of your kick.... whats the best technique for a starter

  • @urielquintanilla93 i don't know exactly what to tell you other than learn as much as you can... take a little bit from every teacher you encounter... take some of my techniqes and mix them with others... all of the starters in the kicking business have such an advantage because of technology... you have youtube and other sites to get instruction as opposed to what i used to do... i used to watch games on saturdays and sundays and tried to mimic what they were doing... that was how i learned

  • hi, i am a 13 year old boy and i kick like 65 yards but i want to know when i kick the ball how does my body need to feel to kick it higher or longer......also where can i buy the tee....PLEASE RESPOND tnks

  • @wichogarcia24 i'm not sure I know what you mean? But my advice is if you are 13 and kicking 65 yards, there isn't a whole lot that you are doing wrong... as your body grows you will kick higher and longer....if you want to buy the tee just google the TOE-TAL-TEE... i think it's like 20 bucks

  • @wichogarcia24 If you are honestly kicking 65 yards then you should be starting kicker on a varsity high school team

  • i though you said this was the right way to kickoff my coach got mad becuse it wasen't correct how i did like you said in the video?????????/////what do i doooo now and i'm starting kickoff and are first game is in 3weeks??????

  • @coolchrismen what do you mean it wasn't correct?!?! this is correct... better yet... there is no right or wrong way to do it? what exactly did he say you were doing wrong? remember this too... most head coaches think they know about kicking but most don't know shit

  • Im in crazy need of advice, im in high school and i want to learn how to kick soccer style, except i cant really get the technique down at all. I kick straight toe, but i really need to learn this other way, because it is alot better for me. what is the technique involved in order to kick soccer style?! where should the ball make contact on the foot is what i really need to know.

  • @terayon04 on the top of your foot on the inner side... point your toes down and out to the side and you'll see what i'm talking about

  • @finklekicker..im a sophomore in highschool and i have always played soccer but my friend persuaded me to try to be the kicker to see how i like it. i can kick a soccer ball really far but for some reason i cant kick the football right. i think it might be cause im trying to kick it to hard and im not relaxing. any tips? plz respond soon

  • im a beginning high school varsity kicker and i kick about 55 yds during kick off and im supposed to kick 60, do you have any tips on how to get a stronger kick also after i saw your video, i bought one of those tees and i actually felt more comfortable using that rather than using a 2 inch tee. PLEASE respond ASAP i would really appreciate it thanks.

  • @rookiekicker13 ... as i told another guy before... there is no magic formula that will give you an extra five yards... just keep working out... strengthen your core muscles and stretch as much as you can... there is nothing wrong with a kickoff to the five yard line... most high school kickers starting out can't make it that far

  • @finklekicker oh well thankz cause im still learning how 2 kick

  • @yummycandy321 usually ppl feel comfortable wit kicking sidewayz bt u hav 2 figure out how gud u cn kick wit either ur top foot or side foot

  • @ZambonieDude... it's actually both... when i made these videos i specified what kind of style i was using... your toes are pointed out sideways and contact is made on th top inner part of the foot... this is how most professionals kick... the technique that uses the side only is called the american wedge style which is a form of soccer style... the style i am teaching in these videos is called american soccer style... the other is canter style aka european soccer style

  • I got a question.. Im a highschool kicker, and every time i kickoff, it is consistently to the 5 , and maybe in another yard. How can I get the ball to the touchback point??

  • @ZSULLIVAN12 ... i don't know how to tell you on how to get an extra four yards other than that it will come... if you're hitting it to the five, then you are hitting it well. i don't know a formula to get an extra four yards other than getting stronger and more sound in your technique. it'll come so just keep working on it

  • i want to ask a question, im a new kicker ive only been kicking for about 4 weeks. Im in highschool football and i do a kickoff about from the 45 yard to the 10 yard. Is that good for a new kicker? it has preety good height aswell. Please comment back.

  • @MrNightmarejam yes that is fine! make sure you are kicking off from the 40 yard line in high school though... for a beginner that is great distance but just know that it isn't about how far you kick the ball but how consistent and accurate you are... if you ever need any help, feel free to ask anytime!

  • i can hit 50+ yard fg's but my kickoffs go nowhere? help me out?

  • @danestrong99 if you have a video that i can see, that would be the easiest way for me to help you. it's hard to say what you are doing if i don't see it

  • Does it matter if you kick with side of foot or top? Cause I kick with the top part of my foot.

  • @yummycandy321 ... you want to kick with both the top and the side... it should hit on the inside porton of your laces called the instep... if you try to kick with just the top of your foot you will either get a lot of distance and no height or a lot of height and no distance

  • @yummycandy321 no dont listen to the other guy the only time u want to kick with the upper part of ur foot is for a punt use thesidefor kicking off and fieldgoals

  • @brian17171 you can kick with either the side or the instep for kickoffs and field goals... the method i am teaching uses the top inner side of the foot which is what you will find most kickers use. the method that uses the side only is called american wedge which is what Jason Elam uses however, he is the only one that I know of that does use that in the nfl. i do know what I am talking about

  • @finklekicker So funny you mention Jason Elam. I always knew there was something different about his style. I've tried to duplicate it best I could, just to try it. It looks like he barely taps the ball on anything under 40 yards, but it just goes. He comes in with a big arc and leans everything back and to the outside. . But its a tough tecnique to rotate through to. Feels like ur gonna fall back on your ass. Does allow for less force to be used. But you pay with increase degree of difficulty.

  • Thank you for this video.

  • Thank you for this video! I really appreciate it! I am going to be my high school's kicker next year, which is my senior year and first year playing kicker. I could really use some help! Like where can I get a black tee like that? And what kind of cleats should I buy? I don't have too much trouble with field goals, I can make about a 40-45 yarder. And I haven't been kicking for very long, but I really want to get good at it. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

  • american football sucks

GO RUGBY becuase you kick off proper tes

  • i actually have a rugby ball that i play around with... it's fun

  • yeah, you tell em', go rugby players who can't spell tee!!!

  • hey man thanks alot, your a lifesaver keep making videos

  • are you matt stover?

  • not hardly lol!

  • how about middle schoolers?

  • what do you mean?

  • my nephew tried it and he fail his kickoff.

  • just takes time and practice

  • nice kick

  • congrades loosing the weight mate!! Keep it up.

  • You sound like Eli Manning.

  • what is the real name of the Tee u are using? Any exercises you recommend to get a stronger leg?

  • the name is the "Toe-Tal-Tee" do a lot of stretching and explosive lifts as well as sprinting

  • I am in 9th grade can kickoff about 55 yards on the fly.

  • @Ravn23459 im also in 9th grade and my kickoff average this year was 62.4 yards this year.

  • Cool.

  • Very thorough and helpful!

  • do you have any tips on getting more distance and height into the ball? apart from working on my abdominal and quad muscles?

and are there any excercises that can strengthen my quad muscles in the shortest amount of time?

  • your gonna wanna get leg speed up more than anything. do as many pylometrics as you can

  • @ryan7208: what exactly is a pylometric?

  • i may have spelled it wrong but it would be like box jumps, resistance kicking, etc. anything to get your fast twitch muscles up

  • Thank u 4 teachin us how 2 kick a ball

  • man im gonna watch these vidoes like everyday lol

  • lol thx dude

  • I was able to kick about40 45 yards maximum in 5th grade but i havnt kicked in 3 years cuz im in 8th now how can I get back in the groove for high school ball.

  • 45 yards on the fly?!or bounce?

  • Bounce lol so any suggestions for the kicking groove again

  • as far as getting back in the groove... the only thing to do is just to start practicing and keep practicing... there is no technique for getting back in the groove

  • how was that not kicking hard?

  • i didn't put all i had into it

  • im only 13 and im going to play jv at riversde next year but i can only kick about 45-50 yards with middle school ball when u went from middle school to high school how much was the diffrence it took off ur yardage because the highschool ball it a little bigger

  • in louisiana

  • i have that shirt! haha

  • i use a 25 degree angle

  • that's fine... everyone is different... i have seen kickers who set up almost directly straight behind the ball and were excellent

  • I go at a much slighter angle than that, maybe 25 degrees rather than 45 and i only take 5 steps back or so, but ive been told if i can transfer the momentum from more steps and kick at a more generous angle, itd go farther than the 50's im hitting right now, is this true? and how far were the ones going in the video

  • yes they are soccer cleats. i did not wear glasses when i played but i am wearing them now and have been for a while because i have some sort of weird cornea infection on my eye... can't wait to start wearing contacts again... and considering that you are a linebacker too, i wouldn't wear glasses.

  • Overweight? Don't look like it haha, but anyway, the video. Very, very good instruction. Especially with the "feel" part. Some days I'm 9 steps back, and some days I'm 7, 6, one game I used 4. It was all about how loose or stiff I felt. It's kinda like golf or bowling, some days specific shots just aren't working. Great video, kicking, and instruction.

  • ok so when you take your steps back do you have to go to the side or over cause when i kick i get the ball far but not to much air do you recomnd anyway u can get more hair n power with your kicks
