Thank you! That was one of the very very few Françoise Hardy songs I hadn't heard and it's indeed an adorable B-side. By the way, I'm still waiting for a "Le Crabe" scopitone to show up on YouTube. There has to be one! Cheers!
Yes, you were, and thanks for that. I think I may have a few other rare ones, but the records need a good clean.. and YouTube is definitely a "winter sport" for me :). I'll get around to cleaning them over the next few weeks.
Not only a rare song, but a song written by the great Mireille herself! The same legendary Mireille who wrote "Puisque vous partez en voyage", Françoise recorded with Jacques Dutronc a few yeas ago. This one is an original creation (1970) never re-released so far. It's very refreshing. Thank you.
niet is for no! the song is mocking the ascetic diet Miss Hardy follows to keep her figure slim and trendy ! Apparently Mireille (author of the lyrics) did know her well!
Thank you so much for this information. As a relative "newbie" to French music (Francoise and France Gall and Sylvie Vartan are who I know), and having obviously heard of Merielle, I would like to get to know her music. Where would you suggest I start :)
you could begin by "puisque vous partez en voyage", "couchés dans le foin", "le petit chemin". Mireille was a great composer and performer, turned teacher. Her "Petit Conservatoire de la Chanson", shown on French tv in the sixties was a famous school, where Françoise herself learnt most of her singing! Mireille and Françoise became friends, but their only collaboration was "assiette-niet", and long after Mireille's death "puisque vous partez en voyage", kind of a tribute.
J'écoute les chansons de Françoise Hardy pour apprendre le français mais je ne pouvais pas trouver le mot "niet". Qu'est-ce que ça veut dire?

@strauss12345
"niet!" veut dire "non!" en russe. Il est là pour rimer avec "assiette".

Friend,
it's "Ce petit chemin" not "Le petit Chemin".
Adieu.
