Ok now I have an issue I really can't fathom. How do I open the winlogon file? I googled MUI and couldn't get much beside renaming the file. I tried that and my comp says 'this file is not compatable with your version of windows'. Help?

@sagarptw Don't worry, I will make more videos. I'm going to make a video of the I found to get transparency on Vista Home Basic. My tutorial will include some custom themes as well, all with transparency.

I'm not sure on getting windows 7, being that Vista is very stable and responsive now. Anyway, I will post a video very soon. Within the next two weeks.

google "tuneup utilities" that program allows you to apply 3rd party themes and change login background, also allows you to keep your system running smoothly, i forgot what the theme is called, but thats pritty much all that can be done, i might make a video tutorial 2morrow, now now since i'm shattered... good luck :)

Search deviantart for Vista themes (.msstyles theme files) and use the uxtheme.dll patch.

That will make 7 look exactly like vista.

Enter path to the ORIGINAL file:

C:\Windows\System32\en-US\winl­ogon.exe.mui

Enter the path to the REPLACEMENT file:

(for example:) D:\winlogon.exe.mui

Press any key and that's it.

You may not need to reboot, the log off should be enough.

(Under Vista you need to delete the Temp folder in the program folder every time before replacing any other file.)

Copy the same file to some location where you will be working

Start Resource Hacker choose File - Open

Select File type - All files (*.*) (Otherwise you won't see the file because the program doesn't recognize the file extension .mui).

Double click the copied winlogon.exe.mui file

Go to:

String Table - 63 - 1029

Change both words "Welcome" (1002 and 1005) for anything you want (someone says you need to change both but I think the first one is the main one).

I just wanted to point you to more professional method by using Resource Hacker, but I can see, you made progress, so you should pull off this video, cause the method is pretty lousy...

@ramzy992 Yeah, just use the new resource hacker, the guy who created it made another update at the end of last year. I made this video in the middle of last year.

Look for "One off update - 19 December 2009 (version 3.5.2 beta):" on the resource hacker site.

but, there's a slight problem ^^ now it won't let me change the message at all, not even with the hex(although it used to o_O ). i modify and copy the file, logon and...dang, "welcome"... I checked out the mui which is under en-US, it says "Toasted" there, but nevertheless windows refuses to become toasted... tried to repeat the process a few times, but without success... first it worked, now it doesn't... :| do you have any clue what's wrong? thanks again!

i still used the hex editor anyway and replaced the win file manually , then restarted and then POOF!......NOTHING. Im about to give up , i hate to put you through all this but it seems my computer is a lost cause. Maybe ill just wait for the next update.
