First of all GREAT JOB!! TO MR. Roy Dean and his student Mr.Sortor. this is a display of a highly evolved highly organized Brazilian jiu jitsu curriculum. Mr. Dean is a Harris International instructor that we are all proud of and a outstanding roll model for other instructors and all jiu jitsu practitioners. So often schools give out rank for nothing more than coming and making classmates tap.
I love the way every one has to really earn there rank, not like were i train. If you show up for class a whole month you get 3 stripes,i dont think thats right at all.I love your standars and morals of training,Keep it up MR Dean.
Thats a good point regarding the currency of belts. I do TKD and Judo, it took me 4 years to get my black belt in TKD. From what I understand a blue belt in BJJ takes around 3 years. Someone should put together a comparison of martial arts belts.
As blue belt loses it's "currency" in the world.. meaning it just doesn't carry as much weight in the Martial Arts as it did only a few years ago... i'm pleased to see the standard actually being raised by only a select few Academies. Roy Dean Academy is one such place.
Really solid techniques. I dig the methodical way he demonstrated them. But what I appreciated most in the clip is the way the atmosphere of mutual respect and open, honest training came across. Those big grins and handshakes at the end of a vigorous sparring session are the mark of a great school n my book. Thanks for posting.
Pretty cool seeing this video, then seeing the video of him getting his purple too. It is indeed a great journey.
