I was there last night and if they were going to arrest one person, it was going to be her. She was constantly at the front of the crowd yelling at the cops as if it was there fault for raising the tuition. I didn't really understand what she was yelling about because none of her points were connected at all. I specifically remember her once yelling "don't you ever think of the children?" to the cops, at which point i stopped paying attention to her. I'm a Cal student, this riot was BS.
I didn't say she DESERVED to get arrested, I was just saying that she made a target out of herself. Only two arrests were made that night and it was not an issue of freedom of speech but and issue of keeping the peace. As for the guy walking by, you can see better in another video that its just some college student on a cell phone and looks surprised as hell when they grab her after he walks by.
I was there too, and that girl was asking for it. She did not have any legitimate points and she was visibly drunk. If you're going to protest something so important, you should probably do it sober.
And she really had nothing of merit to protest. She was yapping on and on and on about how the cop's parents didn't love him, how they think they're so tough, blah blah blah. She got what she deserved.
I don't know why some of these comments condemning the "protest" were thumbed down... To those saying she was bumped into and then she subsequently bumped into the police and that's the reason for the arrest: If you watch again, keep your eye on the police officers directly behind her. They clearly start reaching for her before the guy passes in front of her. Seriously, look again.

taxing the rich only goes so far...in economic terms it addresses only supply and not demand....
in ethical terms it is one sided
similar point could be made for the protester herself...
assuming all the rights are entitled to her side and only responsibilities on the other....

Many of the people who condemn these protesters as violent animals are the same people who get all teary-eyed and proud when the nation prepares to go off to war. A broken window? Despicable! The massacre of thousands of innocent people? Eh, God Bless America!

One of the disturbing things about this video is the sheer number of cameras and cell phone cams, of which I guess this would be one. Attention whores provoking the constables and calling it a righteous protest. Waste of Time and Money.

I was there last night and if they were going to arrest one person, it was going to be her. She was constantly at the front of the crowd yelling at the cops as if it was there fault for raising the tuition. I didn't really understand what she was yelling about because none of her points were connected at all. I specifically remember her once yelling "don't you ever think of the children?" to the cops, at which point i stopped paying attention to her. I'm a Cal student, this riot was BS.

I didn't say she DESERVED to get arrested, I was just saying that she made a target out of herself. Only two arrests were made that night and it was not an issue of freedom of speech but and issue of keeping the peace. As for the guy walking by, you can see better in another video that its just some college student on a cell phone and looks surprised as hell when they grab her after he walks by.

I was there too, and that girl was asking for it. She did not have any legitimate points and she was visibly drunk. If you're going to protest something so important, you should probably do it sober.
And she really had nothing of merit to protest. She was yapping on and on and on about how the cop's parents didn't love him, how they think they're so tough, blah blah blah. She got what she deserved.

I don't know why some of these comments condemning the "protest" were thumbed down... I mean really, if you think defending public education is so important, aren't you more worried that a violent riot like this is only going to hurt your cause? And most of those protesters (wearing bandannas on their faces, etc) were not Cal students. "Whose streets? Our streets!" Yeah, because you own the city. Fucking morons.

Even though certain people are joining the protests to cause trouble I fail to see how that discredits the concerns to the genuine protesters. Do you use a few members of any group to make blanket assumptions about the entire group?
Let's try using some of those critical thinking skills we are supposed to be learning here at Berkeley.

Ugh. I can't believe these people. I'm against the cuts just like all us other UC students but this is disgraceful - theres never been necessity for a violent riot to erupt. All these idiots did is start shit in the spirit of protest - how misguided. They just set this whole thing back by making us Cal students look like assholes. The two people that got arrested totally deserved it and I hope to God they never decide to pull shit like this again in the name of solidarity or justice.

Dunno what the justification for snatching the girl is (inciting?) but seemed pretty clean to me. No excessive force or abuse. Didn't see what was happening before or after the video either. Anyone have any info on this?

she is my sister and i spoke with her from jail today. she was hit upwards in the nose with a baton before this completely unexpectedly. she leads a lot of non-violent protests at berkeley and i believe was trying to explain how she had just gotten hit
