maybe this was explained... it makes sense to me to use the E ionian mode for the Emaj7 but I don't understand how the B dorian mode fits in there as the second mode of E ionian would be F# dorian
Your videos are great none the less, do you have any lessons about modes and how to use them?
Marty, this lesson really introduces in a very easy fashion, two chord vamp, the idea of switching scale tones on the fly. I would love to see some more lessons on switching modes on the fly. Personally I view this example as going from Ionian to Mixolydian. But you could do Dorian->Aeolian or major pentatonic->Dorian->minor pentatonic. Anything that you may have picked up when you were learning to change scale tones on the fly such as this example.
I love how you make it so simple to be a samurai warrior of the fretboard, as Garcia was himself. Terrific breakdown of one of the coolest vamps of all time!
marty this is off topic but i wanted to see if you could teach us celebrity status by marianas trench i really like that song and i cant find a guitar lesson anywhere on youtube could you plz thanks btw this lesson is awesome as always
great solo, I like your style and I love your fender with the paint over, you're like me, even if one day I buy a new guitar, I'll always keep my first one that I polish after every use to keep it beautiful and it's just a squier fender stratocaster afinity, but mine sound great, it was probably a good day when it has been done, I'm lucky ;-)
Hey Marty! I know that you normally dont do other artists songs on this channel, but could you take a look on a Radiohead song called "Subterranean homesick alien" I was learning some of the licks, and small guitarsolos on it, and it dosn´t really sound like anything I´ve ever heard. Could you maybe take a look at it sometime. That would be really enlightning!
This was such a fun lesson cause you did backup and just let me jam out my sillies...I've got the pentatonics now and working on the Dorians. All thanks to you Marty!
you did this song yesterday man and you've already got near 400 views gosh your a good teacher man oh and if you would can you teach us how to play metallica fight fire with fire? thanx a lot man peace out
Great couple of videos Marty, but it continues to show me what a daunting task it is to learn all the scales and notes on the guitar. Maybe someday I'll know them cold like you do, but it seems soooo far down the road.
Another great lesson!....as an idea for a future lesoon how about 'Friday Night August the 14th' by Funkadelic? ....has a super-groovy rhythm lick as well as a 'far out' outro solo.
Thanks Marty u da man! One of my fav dead tunes and now I can sound like the fat man or atleast try. Keep the jam lessons- Dead, Phish, maybe some moe. coming. Or how bout a Jam Band dvd. I swear I'll buy it. Thanks again.
