Love Evan, but this program bored me to tears. He's smart for working the COP to his advantage...but it's obvious every movement is thrown in to get points...unlike some other skaters who seamlessly weave technical and artistry together.
Ugh...his footwork always makes me cringe because of the over-the-top arm flailing and epileptic fits throughout. I can't believe how artistically challenged the judges must be to award high program components score to a windmill display. If only Dick Button was doing the commentary instead of Scott Hamilton who, judging from his own performances, wouldn't know artistry if it bit him on the face.
The landings of his jumps were sloppy here, and he was off balance through most of the program, and even admitted that after the fact, when he was interveiwed. I enjoy Evan's skating, but when you're as off as he was here, and Johnny Weir was as ON as he was, there's NO WAY you should retain your title over him! Even the announcers thought Johnny should have won this. Pretty telling, yes? he even blew his combination down to a triple double..Judges and the USFSA wanted Evan to win. And he did.
I know it's been said already, but Johnny won the short program. Evan won the long program by 1.34 points. Evan got 162.72 in the long. Johnny needed 161.38 to win the whole title, but he got 161.37. Those numbers gave them a tie after the long, both getting a final score of 244.77. I think Johnny had the best program overall, he deserved the win. I'm not sure why Evan won over Johnny. I'm assuming they decided the free skate was worth more than the short and gave Evan the win because of that.
i still can't believe this won over johnny weir's LP. there's no connection to the music at all, and no emotion. hes just doing the jumps and spins and the other elements. i personally dont feel anything watching him, and its sad because great skaters like irina slutskaya have interpreted Tosca so well. i like both of them, but this competition was johnnys. either way Evan has gotten better and is of course the Olympic Champ.
Forget Carreras or Domingo, Evan is the best-looking Cavaradossi I've ever seen(though I don't think the real Cavaradossi ever wiped his brow with a stuffed monkey).
he won the free skate ony because he did that quad/triple combo. even though it wasn't the cleanest (two footed landing on the quad), it inched him forward ahead of Johnny, whose free skate was much more controlled and better executed, I think. Cleaner jumps, more artistic...
You're contradicting yourself, PUSSenko fan, big surprise there. First you say that he won because of the jumps, then say they weren't as good as someone elses, which is it?
If Evan can perform like this in Vancouver this year, it's going to be very hard for Johnny or any of the men to beat him. The rivalrie you know will get played up HUGELY this year with the two of them leading up to and at the Olympics.
Personally like Evan's style better because it has a little bit of that Yagudin flair to it.
Lysacek's program was cliche and his performance was labored. Many mistakes on the jumps as well. Don't even compare to Yagudin; the gap between the two could fit a small city. If Lysacek skates like this he doesn't even deserve to be on the podium at the Olympics.
Johnny was robbed of the title at this Championship.
Evan looks sloppy even when he is skating clean.

I actually think this program is really sloppily done

Not the best quad toe. Couldn't check the landing. I wouldn't put that anywhere in the title of this video.

@ddesro1111 yes totally agree, don't get y that is on the title.....I wonder what you'd call Joubert and Plushenko and Daisuke's programs then..

Actually, Johnny won the short program. Evan scored higher on the long program, which gave him the title.
Personally, I'm a Johnny fan, but I think Evan's pretty phenomenal too.
