  • God, when I make the Steven Greenwood Show I'm gonna take the Mickey out of it :D

  • The 2009 version doesn't have the whole bridge part. Which kinda defeats the entire point of the advert. Thank you for uploading the original full version. I cheered quite loudly when I first saw this back on screens (even if the PC brigade have chopped it up).

  • i've never seen the bridge part before

  • 2 people die in this advert the truck driver and the red cars driver

  • cool

  • smart ol blue he's a clever cunt

  • my brother loves this

  • put ur thumbs up if u hav seen first one of this ad before the 2009 one

  • I cannot see Milky Way bar and spread in Bulgaria!!!!!!! WHYYYYYYYYYY?????!!!!!!!!

  • There quite a few changes. Smart old bue to good old blue. A couple of pauses missing in the new version and a catchy little bit in the old one that sounds like guitar plucking that's not in the new one! Also, "coz he know's it won't spoil his appetite" changed to "coz he knows it's something that tastes just right". And the signs and the message at the end. I prefer the original and don't really understand why they bothered to change it! Very catchy....love it! :-)

  • There are more changes than just the lyrics, the original has a sign saying Lunchville, and Dinnertown afterwards. Changed to one sign saying Playville.

So it's message from the 80s is lost completely.

  • i have seen this ad lol :]

  • Ha ha bennjeee thats funny lol he is such a rebel :D

  • the song is soo catchy !!! :)

  • Cool vid

  • I watch this video all night but imagine if that actually happened XD :D

  • Reminds me of the X Factor concert in the o2 arena. this advert was played about ten billion times in a few hours =/

  • i sing 'the red car and the blue car had a race' every day:L

i'm addicted to this advert. -.o

  • The red car dies at the end. People do realize this, right?

  • "cause he knows it's something that tastes just right"

That sounds wrong and seems to carry more syllables than the music allows (even though it doesn't). No wonder people think it's political correctness. With the old lyrics being so memorable, it's playing in our heads.

Couldn't they use: "cause he knows it's good for the racing fight" or

"cause he knows it's good for a sudden flight"

"cause he has some time at the waiting light"

  • That Was Used On ITV1,Channel 4, Channel 5, Sky Channels and Satalite Channels Only In The UK In 2009.

  • I'm just impressed that they either found the original singer from 20 years ago or an incredible sound alike.

Only thing I'm miffed about is time edits, because I hate time edits. Even if it is understandable. (Not too many ads over 30 seconds these days.)

  • It's nothing to do with Political Correctness, you dumb wankers, it just wasn't true.

  • @Applemask And neither is "reality" television.. dosen't stop the shite being on our screens all day long!

  • lol notice how in the 80s one when saying what blue car is looking for mily way cos it helps his apetite, they have changed it for 2009 cos they cant lie anyome. truth = it really doesnt fill you up. bloody nice treat though.

  • i love this cartoon great job guys

  • the red car and the blue car had a race all red wants to do is stuff his face he eats everything he sees from trucks to prickily trees but good old blue he took the milky way hes looking for a chocolate treat fluthy and light cos he knows its something that tastes just right mmmmmmm oh no the bridge has gone old red cant carry on but good all blue he took the milky way

  • @cheerfulsplash lol spelt fluffy wrong haha

  • @cheerfulsplash ben ur sad

  • @PerfectcuseimWelsh hahaha i no

  • If they are feeling so nostalgic about the past they should bring back the original Milky way bar! the brown nougat was much nicer and the chocolate was thicker! the Milky way bar is a shadow of its former self (rather like this ad)

  • love this song!! it beats anything in the charts right now :)

  • red car got owned :D

  • im 19 had a milkway everyday at around 1530 (normally after school) everyday since i was 5 and it never spoilt my appitite and im fit n healthy.

  • when i saw the new advert i thought they'd changed the words!

  • my new ringtone sick song

  • "Lighten up and play" Note to advertisers "Lighten up and stop being so overly-PC!"

  • @notgillcup I don't understand what relevance that new slogans has! "Lighten up and play"? I know it replaced the original appetite slogan but now, it just doesn't make sense. :S

  • One time ago, this ad came on, it was more shorter than this, and the "LIGHTEN UP AND PLAY" is replaced by a Magic Stars packet.

  • I just LOOOOOOVE milky way chocolate. my favorite.

  • Comment removed

  • LOVED this ad!

  • Wahooo! I love chocolate adverts as they just get weirder and weirder! They are awsome!

  • <3 milkyway and this advert

  • They changed the lyrics?

This remix is dead to me. -_-

  • city are shit

  • @ 3below hahhahaha coming from a guy who aint from manchester

    man utd fans=glory hunters

and now he is going to comment me and saying that i am an glory hunter cus i support arsenal and living in sweden. that's all he does commenting to every one that they are glory hunters

  • City fans can't even pack out their pubs. They get run every week. Even got run by Scunthorpe, when 2 and half million City fans packed into Glanford Park. They were singing "we'll buy your club and burn it down" because City are MASSIVE and can do what they like. Grrr, massive.

    34 YAC

  • @M13Red77insidejob Her you go again Rimjob, calling other glory hunters, tell the people that you in fact live in Surrey and support Manure.

They'll think its hilarious just like us.

LMFAO!! again at your self loathing.

    Priceless, just priceless.

    AFC

  • @TONYNASRI Little Tony, STILL not answering which Spurs or Barnet part of North London you live in. hahaha.

  • CITY FANS = GLORY-HUNTERS

  • @M13Red77insidejob Mr Rimjob = Surrey living Manure fan so you are what you claim others are, a glory hunting shit bag. lmao!!!

  • This is bonkers, bloody bonkers.

    Red > Blue

    United > Bertie Magoos.

City are MASSIVE and their fans are all from Manchester... well, not really, they're actually from Rochdale, Bolton, Stockport, Wigan etc. but are just too soft to support their local sides.

    City fans = glory-hunters.

  • this advert still stands the test of time -

    frankie smales

  • The words are slightly diffrent to the old one but the old one is crap

  • funny

  • the red car and the blue car had a race , the red car cummed in the blue cars facee !!!!

  • this one the best

  • lol

  • This ad. kinda seems in bad taste for a little while in the wake of Cockermouth and all that. It does show that repetition works, I could clearly remember it from 20 years ago.

  • @diabolusdc Oh shut up

  • Classic

  • to be honest I don't know why some people are so fussed by how they've slightly changed it. I mean sure the PC brigade meant they changed some of the lyrics and the sign , but in fairness it still works, the song still sounds the same and personally I find "good old blue" sounds better than "smart old blue"

and if making some small changes means they can air this great ad again, then I won't complain.

  • @simpson2142 I agree with you there. Both adverts are just as good as each other but I prefer the 'smart old blue...' lyrics. I never originally new that they did bring back the 'Milky Way' advert for 2009; this was because I wasn't around/born in 1989 and I thought that it was a new advert that they'd decided to make in the style of the 80s. I was wrong there. Personally, the 1989 advert is miles better because it had a lot to it; but either way, the 2009 advert isn't that bad. :)

  • @simpson2142 they only changed like a picture

  • I must say i didnt like all the alterations to the animation, its definitely too PC, but i did like that they added more pace to the song.

  • u.k

  • is this out in us or uk? i dont watch tv so i have no idea lol

  • okay i just read the milkywayuk thing, ignore me ;x

  • @vampireemuu well, its in the uk, but it may be in the us too, but i dunno

  • They've shortened this even further now!

  • my friend sings this every day

  • Also, the names of the towns have changed: "Lunchtown" and "Dinnertown" are now "Playville" and "Light Town".

Oh, and the donut signboard's gone too. Shame really, but the ASA would've been over them like flies to shit if they still claimed that Milky Way didn't spoil my appetite! They spoiled my appetite then, and still do now :)

  • Haha, they removed everything about the appetite.

1989 - Cause he knows it won't spoil his appetite.

2009 - Cause he knows it's something that tastes just right

    1989 - Smart old blue

    2009 - Good old blue

1989 - The sweet you can eat between meals without ruining your appetite

2009 - Lighten up and play

  • Anorak.....lol!!! Spot on with the differences!

  • i love this advert so much

  • haha ...Crips and Bloods...t'aint fair lol

  • I am with purelybelterman why change the words from Smart old blue to Good old blue - people just cant leave thing alone

  • @seantomlinson I think good old blue sounds better but it does piss me off why it was changed

  • Why change the words??? It was Smart old blue not Good old blue.. ????

  • I remember many arguments as a kid "but the ad says it won't spoil your appetite, so why can't I have one before dinner!?"

Parents MUST have complained. This has nothing to do with political correctness, it's advertising regulations that prevent advertisers from lying / mis-selling products.

Think of all the insurance ads we'd be conned by if we still had the relaxed regulations of the 80's!

  • @leerees Not true... sure insurance con's are lower than the 80s, but has the obseity level decreased? No. Yet we were eating milky ways before dinner in the 80s!

  • Comment removed

  • Absolutely love this advert!!! Cant stop singing it!!!

  • Comment removed

  • the billboard at the end says lighten up and play but in the original it said something like the sweet you can eat between meals that wont spoil your appetite

  • Awesome.

  • They have changed it slightly, more sounds effects and things

  • I saw this earlier tonight on E4. Couldn't believe my fucking eyes or ears.

  • yeah it is love it

  • the 1989 one is actualyl better!

  • Ive watched this epic advert like 100 times and now Im really in the mood for a milkey way...

  • what channel can you find this on?

  • This one has a few alterations from the old one though, the music has been touched up and the sign at the end says something different in the 80s version.

  • HAHAHAHAHA! This is a blast from the past, I thought this would have been consigned to history since the last day it was shown on TV when I was like 6 years old. Now 20 years later, here we are. Classic advert!

  • Couldn't they think of something to rhyme with cactus then?

  • hmm i see how this is diff to the 1989 version ha

  • I don't see the problem. "It wont ruin your appetite" was the slogan back in the day and it's bloody true! I could chomp through two dozen of these bad boys and it wouldn't touch my appetite.

  • I've just watched Eminem's video for Stan and couldn't help laughing. You're right, these advertising guys are spot on.

Now if that dude had eaten Milky Ways and stayed off the trucks and prickly trees, the whole family would have lived happy ever after!

  • Changes...

Start shorter (No closeups or traffic lights changing)

Lunchville welcomes careful drivers sign BECOMES Playville welcomes careful drivers sign (Political correctness BS)

Dinner town hours away sign BECOMES Light town hours away sign (Political correctness BS)

  • U said it Loz!

  • Eat-me do-nuts sign is missing (Political correctness BS)

Smart changed to Good (twice) (Political correctness BS)

Dinner town city limits sign BECOMES Light town city limits sign (Political correctness BS)

The sweet you can eat between meals without ruining your appetite sign BECOMES Lighten up and play sign (Political correctness BS)

  • I am really pleased they brought this advert back, It was my favourite advert as a kid (can't believe I was only 2 and remember it) Ironically a year ago I found an old tv advert site and came accross the 89 version and it brought back memories, less than a year later and they have re released it!

Stupid rules in another 20 years this advert won't even be allowed to be shown, prob because it encourages Kids to race cars or to eat and drive. NANNY STATE POLITICAL CORRECTNESS NANNY STATE

  • It pisses me off how much our country (England) sucks, this political correctness is BS and it's thanks to pathetic people complaining over NOTHING, saying it's idiotic and irresponsible is absoultly pathetic, if it was an advert for cigarrettes saying "come on kids light up only cool people smoke" then I can see why it would be Irresponsible and idiotic but saying a fking choclate bar advert is irresponsible because they say that it wont spoil your appetite is a joke.

  • LOZ: Calm down dear, it's only a commercial. Sorry if I upset you but I always thought the appetite claim was inaccurate and only justified by the bar being so small you hardly knew you'd eaten it. Even as kids we saw through it and made fun of the slogan (which is also far too long btw). When nutrition labels were introduced, this became very obvious indeed. They've changed the recipe now so it's less like a mars bar but it's still not exactly health food.

  • @1987LOZ1987 So true. Think even in the ninties how our tv shows and adverts were so different from the pathetic pap it is now.

  • @1987LOZ1987 The main reason for that is your country seems to think the Conservative party is best. They are wrong.

  • @lapalma123 I didn't vote coneservative :) who are you suggesting is the best to run the country?

  • @1987LOZ1987 Liberal Democrats.

  • @lapalma123 Same, Labour are useless and they have proved this over the last 10+ years. The Conservatives aren't as bad as Labour but still have downsides. Personally I wanted Nick Clegg in but I guess that was never going to happen. I guess he is sort of in as it's a coalition government and I guess that's something at least.

Out of curiosity, where are you from as you said "your country"

  • @1987LOZ1987 Wales.

  • @1987LOZ1987 Labour are much better than the tories. Vat up to 20%, income taxes backdated 6 years, cuts in public services... welcome back to the 1980s!

  • @1987LOZ1987 I totally agree with you! What a classic advert ruined here with the idiotic people who moan over everything! Those people need to get lives and move on with their lives! I was SOOOOOO happy to see this advert back on telly, but to here the lyrics completely different was a BIG let down! Sad world we live in these days.

  • @123col1n123 I never noticed the lyrics were different till I saw the comments, then I checked the old advert and saw.

  • @123col1n123 I know what you mean, but teh change in lyrics was actually more to do with a change in advertising itself rather than politiocal correctness or even the food authorities. Believe it or not even at the time they tried to change/ban the ad on health grounds but the rulers agreed with Mars - cant think that would happen now lol

  • @1987LOZ1987 I actually thought it was because some of the moronic kids around these days won't even know what appetite means. but that makes more sense aswell lol ;)

  • @1987LOZ1987 I couldn't agree more. Who are these people complaining?! It's pathetic. They must have so much free time!! I loved the advert, reminded me of my childhood, i didn't even notice they swapped words!

  • Comment removed

  • This was the only decent advert from Mars throughout the 1980s. But I'm pleased to see most of the changes. I always thought the appetite slogan was idiotic and irresponsible. I sold these bars to people who actually believed it. And some children really do need protected from their stupid parents!

I wish they hadn't cut 10 seconds out though, especially at the start where the traffic lights now go straight to green and we miss some car close-ups.

Yes, I know. I need to get a life......

  • You need to get a bit more than a life. Actually, a lot more. How about a new identity?

  • i prefare the old milky way ad this one is too fast compared to the old one and the sign on the old one says the treat you can eat between meals withoutht losing ur apetite but this one says lighten up and play

  • this reminds me of childhood.

it's good to see old adverys back on tv.

  • Its not photo shopped, it was released back on TV about 2 months ago and is still airing now :) A couple of the words have changed but meh still brings back those memories!

  • sorry I just couldn't resist... You can't have a YouTube vid these days without someone thinking it's a fake... even if it's a cartoon ;-)

  • lmao I guess that quite true!

  • Its real. Its been brought back. Please get your facts right

  • one star i hate cartoons

  • lighten up this is classic stuff. and the song rocks i love it :D

  • lol it was just a random question i had seen it loads of times but never paid attension so i said to my mum "Which car won the red car or the blue car" and funilly enough as soon as i finished sayign that the advert came on.

  • yay love this advert. Used to annoy my brother when the red car lost. He he.

  • love this advert .but why change the words to it

  • The intro, where they are looking hungry, getting ready to race is cut too!

  • The satellite and meteor one next please :) that one was way better!

  • This commercial kicked major butt. Why bring it back anyway, is it to give people a good nostalgic rush but to then smash them in the faces with modern day PC society changes?

Fuck whoever thought it was a good idea to do that, it's fucking depressing. O_o But where the original unchanged version is concerned, it *is* a great commercial.

Just so pissed off they'd want to destroy it like this...I mean, why? I actually feel sorry for today's kids!

  • the first time i saw this i was eating a milky way (Y) haha

  • GAY

  • The Original Use to say " Smart Old Blue", The New one is now "Good Old Blue"

  • Milky Ways are pointless. By the time youve chewed, theres nothing left to swallow and just sticky stuff welded to your teeth.

Great to see the advert again though!

  • yeah obviously in today's politically correct landscape you can't say smart now can you, and all kids are obese now so why did they change it's selling point of not spoiling your appetite. i guess cos they don't want to encourage kids to snack between meals. of course the original is better, they don't make ads like they used to. what's the name of that ad with the dinasaurs, canned shapes retro ad?

  • Once my dad saw the advert whe we were watching TV he Shouted out, Omg This is old! I havent seen it in years!

I love it - Its soo catchy

  • I bought a milky way today for the first time in years, simply because of this advert, I saw iton "Dave" the other night, and always loved the advert from when I was little (I have just turned 21). I also just remembered this ad the other day, though I was telling my friend it was a trio advert, not milky way!

  • also in the old advert is says SMART old blue not GOOD old blue.

i love retro stuff now so many memorys but why do the changes have to be made. the little changes just spoil it. I was going to buy one but because of the changes im not happy

  • They changed it from "something that you can eat between meals" to "something that is nice". (NOT A QUOTE) From the 1989 advert to the 2009 Advert - Notice the board at the end of the 1989 advert says 'something you can eat between meals', in 2009 it says 'lighten up and play'.

  • that;s a great advert and i would rush out right now and buy a milky way if it weren't for the fact that they taste like stale cum,,,,...

  • and you know this taste because...?

  • Comment removed

  • i was born in 89 and i remember it so it must have ran for a few years for me to remember it

  • brill !! Made me buy milky ways for the 1st time 4 ages!!

  • and dinner town is now litetown :-s

  • the sign at the start has also changed from lunchville 2 playville

  • It's funny how 20 years can go by and when something you haven't seen since that period returns, in some shape or form, you instantly recall those days alot more clearly than before.

Totally and pleasantly surprised when this showed up (I only saw it yesterday for the first time since '89).

  • Know what you mean - I had completely forgotten about this, but as soon as I heard the line 'The red car and the blue car had a race' I thought oh god!! I know this advert!

  • I thought i was hearing things when this was on, i was in the kitchen felt my spine tingle, saw it and thought nooooh my god AWESOME, all that for a chocolate bar advert

  • I saw this the other day and my initial happiness was replaced with dismay when I realised they've changed it so much to cater for todays ridiculous PC society,

All it does now is makes me feel sad that the country has gone so crap in just 20 years :(

  • I've just been in hospital, and when I came out and saw this ad, I thought I was going mad, because I remembered it, but none of the rest of my family did (3 siblings aged 14-19)!

  • Some of the changes are probably to do with concerns about advertising chocolate as "not spoiling your appetite", but I think the reason they've shortened it by 10 secs is so its cheaper... the longer the airtime your ad takes up, the more you pay!

  • It's nice to see that they've brought this classic advert back (I uploaded the orginal a few years ago) and they've tidied up the animation. However, I don't see why they couldn't have left the song as it was.. it doesn't seem to flow as good as it used too.

  • good question it is the same as anything else a few things had to change for todays market like the verse in the lyrics of the original said fluffy and light and goes for his apetite to it feels just right

and the sign at the end is differant and lastly

the plane develops the bar but things cant remain the same these days .

  • my fave advert is back yey

i was so excited when my brother told

me that they revived it again after 20 years

the advert can be seen on comedy central

channel uk infact i saw it this morning

i am thrilled to see it again 20/20

  • I can understand why most things have been changed but why "smart" to "good", do they think its wrong to call someone smart nowadays incase it insults the people who aren't! I guess the PC culture plays a part in it

  • I've started a petition on Facebook to change things back!!!! Its not on!

    Please feel free to sign.Thanks

  • looks like they cut to be 30secs not 40 like the old advert

  • They skip the bit about it not ruining your appetite and changed the sign at the end.

  • and the donut is missing

  • I've also noticed that the red car no longer munches on the donut sign at the start. Its a shame its been changed but its the way of the world at the moment

  • Maybe they thought "Eat Me" Donuts wasn't appropriate anymore lol

  • hey, has any one noticed they have changed the lyrics from the old advert from "the smart old blue" to the "good old blue" why do these people feel the need to change it and spoil it? compare them for yourself!!

  • yeah I noticed this straight off cos I was singing along then it just sounded WRONG! lol They've also changed the "cos he knows it wont spoil his appetite" bit too :o(
