  • I know you're all passionate about it, but let's deviate from arguing. Be a martial artist, stay calm, wise, and most importantly, reserved. You guys have opinions, they have theirs. Sometimes opinions are wrong, but you can't change them that easily. You guys insult the Koreans believing in Kumdo, and they're bound to strike back. So just ignore them please, and MOVE ON. Rational people don't take stupid people seriously.

  • wish the quality was better. loks like a coo vid

  • old school!

  • (japanese) ken = sword

    (korean) kum = sword

(japanese & korean) do = way

it literally translates to "the way of the sword"

i dont get what people are saying about koreans calling "kendo", "kumdo" in korea...

  • Koreans are claiming to be of korean origin. Claiming that it came from Baekche.

    Baekche's Sword were straight.

    Not Curved like Katanas.

But Koreans insist without evidence, that it's Korean.

  • maybe kendo did come from china to korea, and then korea to japan. However, that is more than 800 years ago. I'm sure the battle tactics, theory and philosophy, stants and techniques, styles, etc. have gradually changed in the last 800 years. I strongly doubt that the kendo 800 years ago and kendo we see today are different. There might be some similarities from the past, but after 800 years of history, there has to be lots of changes.

  • dumbass kendo was started in japan then when japan took over korea we adapted it and called it kumdo and im korean and i do kumdo and im not a white asian wannabe like u

  • Kendo is the Japanese original culture.

I fear the spread of wrong knowledge.

  • Ok Lets Get One Thing Right Here

    Korean Way:Kumdo

    Japy/English Way:Kendo

The Reason They Say Kendo Is Becasue They Heard The Japenease Verstion First So The Word Is Better Known

  • everything came from China.. the word KEN & KUM represents a double edged sword, which chinese swords are, and both korean and japanese uses a Katana, blade knife style with one edge only.

  • Korean swords, I think, aren't fully one edged, i think when it's about to end at the tip it gets double efged/

  • we got nothing from the fricken chinese

  • i dk if this is so ligit. i mean. the japanese got the word samurai from the korean word samurang. and they got the basic single edged sword design from the koreans aswell. i think that the japanese took what korea started and made it better, then korea adopted some of their greater techniques.

  • Samurai came from the old Japanese word "saburau" which means "to serve". Hey, I believe some(NOT ALL) Korean used to look down on our Samurai culture saying it's a proof of a brutal nature of Japanese! Now samurai got popular worldwide and some korean start to insist that it originates in Korea... Sorry if you're offended.

  • yes i was told koreans had warriors called samurang and there is a big posibilty that samurai's came from them because if you see samurang's armor they are almost identical to the samurai's.

  • There was NO such thing as samurang ever existed in Korean penninsula. Do not fabricate the history.

  • Say "the kendo that a Korean learned in the Japanese rule times" obediently.

  • The Chinese character for a double edged sword is pronounced "KEN" in Japnanese and "KUM"in Korea.

  • its not double edged stupid.

  • kumdo= korean kendo, its almost identical

  • i guess they started calling it kumdo because they didnt want ppl to be confused wtih kumdo with japanese way (kendo)
