  • @elbryan42 too bad you dont use the Shortcut:( for your speedrun.

  • That mirror scared the hell out of me as a kid. Just all of a sudden BAM! denied.

also took an absolute age to figure out how to get past xD...

  • That skeleton in level 3 was always mad scary.

  • Fuck why couldn't prince of Persia 2 be this good?

  • This game's just an Assassin's Creed rip-off, isn't it? XD

  • Queen Scheherazade told me a story just like this shit. What a total rip-off game.

  • That third level is a pain in my ass....

No matter how many times I do it he just wont grab onto the ledge in that run bit.

  • Aladdin is a rip-off of Prince of Persia despite Aladdin being inspired by One Thousand and One Nights, a folk tale first translated into English in 1706?

  • @AnonymousCthulhu Check out "the thief and the cobbler" by Richard Williams.

  • Best POP ever made.. excelent game.. good hours expent.. why POP2 is not that great? one word! MEDUSA HEADS.. that was two words anyway... FUC$#% U MEDUSASSSS

  • Every time I listen to this soundtrack, it makes me want to climb up random walls!

  • :sigh: God, I LOOOOOOOVED this game. Could not get enough. The music, the playstyle. How I miss it......

  • @sakazakijin One word...emulation.

  • lol @ 7:08 its like , ok see ya

  • like the bassline

  • this version made by konami

  • , ii Miss this Game !!.

  • This is the best version and the scariest. In my opinion

  • @Anonymouz6015 Scariest? Well, I was paranoid when I entered a new screen, so maybe I was scared, too lol. "I hope death isn't waiting for me on the next screen" I'd think to myself :p.

  • Luvd this game on the SNES. Great graphics and gameplay, beautiful music. The last levels were very challenging. An awesome game overall.

  • I agree that this is the best version of the original Prince of Persia. I've played this on the PC, Commodore Amiga, Sega Genesis, and the SNES, and the SNES port has the best graphics and music.

  • Is the best version of Prince of Persia ever, especially the music is excellent ...

  • Wow games came alone way i can't believe i used to play this game or any NES or SNES game for that fact lol

  • @CerpinTaxt1983 idiot

  • This game gave me nightmares when I was younger.

  • @Chamillionare64 it still gives me nightmares..that intro sound and the sound when you die in a very deep hole full of rotten nobodies; hell. What I like very much about this game is the feeling of accomplishment. First you feel wasted, humiliated, discraced, tortured. Only your will and love for the princess remains. But then when you climb higher and higher, you come in low, middle and higher classes of the giant castle/dungeon. The music becomes more and more majestic.

  • @Chamillionare64 At the end, on the red carpet, you can give dictator jafar what he deserves.

Ok it's a tale, but there are lots of other theme's and metaphors. At the end only love remains. Besides that, all the hero needs is some clothes, food and a sword. Thats awesome.

  • @0IWVVWVWVVWI0

That's good and very true. But seriously...that first level. The cryptic music and the depressing background wasn't good for my 7 year old head.

Now it's a badass game though.

  • i remember like 15 yerargo ago my neightbor bought a snes with prince of persia... this game is awesome and have a excelent music (sorry for my bad english)

  • It's amazing that this awesome game is made by Konami. Plus, I like the final level reminds me of Super Castlevania.

  • Best Version of prince of persia ever..

Stop playin' your God Of War 3, it's was too easy comparated this game (:

  • That music + first level make u isolated and depressed XD

  • thanks for doing this, loved this game as a kid even though i didnt know what the hell i was doing ;)

  • dun rape the wall

  • On a slightly unrelated note, I think there was another version of Aladdin, with Chinese people in place of the Arabs. It was in one of Ladybird's old storybooks, if memory serves me right. Read it ages ago, but I haven't seen that book in a long time now.

  • why you jump up in front of the exit door ~ haha

  • i like prince´s running sprite at 00:52

  • Actually the trick can be done but the timing is pretty harsh on it, there is a guy on youtube that actually does it without any tool or wwhatsoever

  • 5:00 when I was a kid this was the part where I nearly always failed. I managed to make it twice...

  • you should give me some lesson x) i've never succedded in finishing the first level :(

  • Imo this is the best PoP 1 version, PoP 2 for the SNES is however a complete disaster.

  • ya know, there is a way to get past the very first guard without the sword, though I only did it once and completely by accident on the MS-DOS version. I though I'd be in trouble, but the sword magically appeared right after the first level :P

  • Yup, I know about that. That trick can't be done on the SNES. They added a guard up top that stops you from doing the trick.

  • @elbryan42 ahah good mythbuster for Gametrailers. To tell you the truth it IS possible in the snes version. I did it by accident as a kid. This is how you can do it: lure the first guard in the first level to the border of the screen, and/or make him to attack. You can pass him when he is in that animation. I did it with a runnin' big jump. In level two you have the sword from the start. The rest of the game can be played without killing any guards.

  • WELL DONE MAN!!!!

  • He barks a lot.

  • This game is very good. I sugest you people to play SNES "Out of This World" too. Its just as hard as this one i guess =)

  • @WarlordBacana WOW thanks for the suggestion!! I'am really diggin this kind of games, but none of them were so realistic (with movements and such) then this game! The only substitute for PoP I know of is the excellent game 'flashback'! PoP in SF setting, good graphics as well, also good sound; you only hear field sound, but some BG music at important moments. :) The games in this era are the best ' I ever had, better then semi-intellectual art, better then modern 'over the top hollywood' games

  • Absolutely worth it. It's the best version of the first Prince of Persia.

  • @elbryan42 Yeah but PC Prince of Persia had that defensive guard that requires you to attack first. That was challenging. SNES doesn't have him.

  • The guy at the beginning of Level 8? I HATED that guy. I still do. :P

  • @elbryan42 yeah, the damn navy-colored guard.

  • @elbryan42 Yeah, absolutely agree. I'm workin on this game now, and i must say WHAT A CHALLANGE!!!!!

  • @elbryan42 nah the sega cd and genesis versionsd are better

  • How so? The SNES version has more enemies, more levels, more traps, a bigger set of graphics, easter eggs, an outstanding soundtrack, secret areas, better control, teleporters, a better narrative, etc. I can't think of a single thing the other versions of the original POP (besides POP Classic) are better.

  • @elbryan42 i fell thec ontrol is more responsive, and thats important to this game

  • this is one of the hardes games i ever play!!

  • How the hell do you take a single step? Never could do it without ducking.

  • Hold on to your special button. It also functions as hanging from ledges.

  • It looks like a really boring game, its very repetitious, you just do the same thing over and over again for each level! LOL

  • @iLuvAkeys4ever

shut your damn cake hole private

one of the best snes games of all time,

drop your puny little ass down and give me 20

    NOW

  • @iLuvAkeys4ever

Looks boring and repetitive? Well, watching it isn't going to convey the full experience. Mastering the controls and being able to navigate all the obstacles in a level without screwing up once - which could easily mean death - is hard. It's as much a puzzle game as a platformer. You see an obstacle, you have to do three things: figure out what to do, manage to do it once, and then keep doing it over and over while you worry about the next obstacle. It's hard, but it's fun.

  • remembring the old good days, tnx for posting

  • Wow, the first game I have ever played on computer.

I'm probably going to buy Wii becasue of this and Metroid Prime

  • great game. played this one before the PC version. I was blown away at how fluid the character animations were for its time on the snes.

  • tomb raider was inspired after this game.

    indiana jones contributed

  • What a classic :]...

I love this game. I played this game until the 18th level without using any walk through on the Playstation 2 last time. Sadly I couldn't finish the last 2 levels, 19 and 20 =.=...

  • the movements and stuff are almost like Flashback Quest For Identity...

  • best game ever made

  • my fav version

  • my all time favorite,..one f the best,.i really like the background music,..yeah brings back memories,..how i wish i can play this game again,..mwah

  • =D WOW!! THIS REALLY BRINGS BACK MEMORIES!!! I REMEMBER PLAYING THIS WITH MY DAD WHEN I WAS 6 YEARS OLD!! IT WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE GAMES TO PLAY WITH HIM!! =D And by the way, i'm a girl. This game didn't scare me at all, and it still doesn't. In fact, I hope to get this game again someday so that i can beat it myself. THANKS FOR POSTING THIS! IT'S AWESOME!!

  • well if that would scare you... wow :D and you won't have a problem beating it by yourself. it's not that hard.

  • Well, I'll have to get myself back in practice first XD

I tried playing it at my aunt's house a few months ago....and couldn't even get to the sword. XDDD I'll have to work on getting used to the controller first as well, considering i haven't played it in awhile.

  • i did pc version XD i loved owning boss on lvl 6 but i was scared at the knives lol the snappers XD so asked my mom and she totally owned on this game never could finish it with the mirror prince on lvl9 -,-,

  • Abe's Odyssey

  • thats one fuckin scary game, even scarier than RESIDENT EVIL, you can not fuck with this game

    is beyond scary

    fuck

  • That was AWESOME! Thanks for the videos. I would of never finished the game. That takes me way back.

  • There's one thing i don't like in this version: the music. God.. there should be an option to deactivate the music, so annoying.

  • There is, bring up the sound option, play the Konami sound. Nothing plays after that.

  • You're right! Thanks :)

  • No problem. :)

  • haha i always thought the music in this game was creepy, when i was little i used to be scared to play it at night haha

  • This is THE version of PoP1, no doubt about it. How many memories bringed me back! Shit! I want to play it again. I would be like the tenth time, but what the fuck, the game worth it!!

  • Damn, talk about bringing back memories, this game absolutely rocked the frigging house. I was so disappointed to find out that the others only had 12 levels, while this one had 20. It also has great music as well to go along with said levels.

I agree, this is THE ultimate version of POP1, not even the XBLA version can top it, only way it does is in terms of graphics, other than that, this version has them all beat.

  • I've played through just about every version of POP1 in existence and I agree. The one I keep replaying is the SNES version. The music, the graphics, the extra stages, the extra tension. Konami made a hell of a port.

  • Wasn't developed by Konami, it was NCS Masaya that did it. Konami only published it outside Japan.

Nevertheless, this game NEEDS to be on Virtual Console!

  • @antster1983: I agree, this would fit perfectly on the Virtual Console. Unfourtunetly, this does not seem likely. Boarderbaun Studio is dead, MCS Masaya is also dead, and the current holder of the franchise is Ubisoft, a non-supporter of the Virtual Console. Konami tried to get the TMNT games on the Virtual Console, but we all know how that went. They'll probably be discourage at trying to fix licensing issues again.

  • Which leaves Nintendo to do the job, but then, we'll need Konami and Ubisoft. Of course they probably won't bother with this game because they're probably trying to get the legal issues fixed for Earthbound and Tetris Attack if anything.

  • NOTABLY the extra tension. Hell, the way elbryan42 plays this...you'd almost think he'd make just ONE mistake in his run. JUST ONE. But he shows us that it's possible to do this without screwing up much. Kudos to him.

  • @IcedEarthaholic Sega gamegear version. graphics and sound more true to the original, but with the extra levels :D best version in my book.

  • 02:13 LOOOOOLLL

  • Hahaha, that has to be the most messed up palace to live in....imagine what you have to do just to go to the restroom!! Poor Jafar...

  • this game is so hard to finnish

  • yeah i was like 9 yrs old when i played this game rented, and i just cried and cried cus it was so freakin hard

  • can i get this on a different system than the nes? and not the xbox live version

  • POP is out for just about any old system. NES, SNES, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Genesis, Turbo Grafx 16, Sega CD, Mac, PC, and unlockables on Sands of Time. I probably missed some. POP is one of the most commonly ported games ever made.

  • @elbryan42: You forgot the Apple II, TurboGrafx-16, and Amiga.

  • I used to rent this game all the time when I was a kid. Best version of POP.

  • is tis game same wif the prince of persia dos?? looks alike @@

  • It has much better graphics, sounds and music. It also has more levels (8 more), more traps and more bosses. Basically it's the ultimate version of POP1. Not even the one for XBLA comes close.

  • @elbryan42: Would be great to see this on the Virtual Console, but that's going to take a lot of effort.

  • Next best thing...it's going to be on the Wii version of Forgotten Sands as an extra.

  • @mason000 Looks like it hasn't. Sorry.

  • I remember this game when i had the Snes, it was so freaking hard x3

But in general i think is a very good game :)

    +!

  • reminds me of Abes Oddworld

  • Love the videos, this is in my top 5 favorite games of all time, . RE2, Prince of persia speed run, Metal gear, Out of this world, Final fantasy 7. Im in my

20's and I still dont get tired of this game. To be a snes game it is very chllenging. And the graphics are bad ass for it to be that old.

  • must have taken you forever, elbryan42. awesome playthrough, very entertaining to watch. not too slow not too quick. perfect :D

  • at 5. 17 the gate almost closed on him that was close

  • This is my fav PoP. Getting the sword was such a twist and then the new levels. I had a great time.

  • You get the same sword in the original

  • i used to love playing this game on the snes, awesome music too, Brings back so many memories, I have to say the snes version of POP is the best.

  • When I was playing the original on the pc I didn't though there is better version. Month ago I tried the SNES one and it absolutely blew me away. It's much better than the version for PC, Macintosh, Commodore atd.

  • An evil villain in Persia named JAFFAR. Trying to become the sultan by marrying the sultans daughter...

DAMMIT DISNEY!!!! YOU STEALERS OF IDEAS YOU!

  • @Jukalaboo: About time someone realize that Aladdin is somewhat of an rip-off of Prince of Persia. All Disney would need to do is name the main character Aladdin, the sultan daughter Jasmine, get rid of the Gene and magical things that won't ever exist, and put it in an more mature environment as you got an complete rip-off of this game turned into an movie.

  • Yeah, on the DVD of Aladdin, they were talking about how Disney killed the original script for Aladdin, and come up with a new one in record time.

It's obvious they got their ideas from Prince of Persia, released 3 years before.

  • @elbray42: Very interesting to hear. Imagine what the movie would be like if they had used the original script.

  • you know that alddin is a rather ancient oriental fable, right?

  • @eddykirbysh

Neither that nor Disney ripping of Prince of Persia can be called correct. Nowadays experts strongly suspect the story of Aladdin not having been in the original 1001 nights, but being a work of an 18th century translator who actually invented Aladdin. He's most probably a European invention. The 1001 nights aren't even a collection of fairy tales as we know them to begin with.

  • @eddykirbysh dude thats muulan

  • Yeah. Best part of it for me always was that even in the Arabian Nights book, it says Aladdin took place in China, NOT Arabia.

I suppose just because of its inclusion in Scheherezade's tales it was eventually misconceived to be an Arabian tale? Who knows.

But there were numerous differences between the AN version of the story and Disney's (Aladdin had infinite wishes, "Jafar" was simply known as "the African Magician", Aladdin himself was a lazy brat to begin with). It goes on. ^^

  • @KelsonArwhi although it took place in China, the China in the story is more synonymous to a Persian setting. There is barely anything 'Chinese' about most of the locations, demographics, etc. When I was really young I used to think China was another Middle-Eastern country solely because of this interesting aspect.

  • @KelsonArwhi Got a URL or a rough text dump of the story itself? I'm curious now...I'm interested in your version of the Aladdin story.

  • @marioluigi1983 The bad guys have he same name jaffar

  • @marioluigi1983 No one really ripped off anything. Both Aladdin and Prince of Persia were based off the Arabian Nights stories. Except that the story of Aladdin was already a part of the 1001 tales. Prince of Persia was merely inspired by the Arabian Nights, Jordan Mechner, the creator, said it himself.

  • @marioluigi1983

im asuming you mean the movie 'Aladdin' and not the story itself? wich was written hundreds of years ago and so pre-dates Prince of Persia? granted the original Aladdin was a bit more...lets say children unfriendly.

  • @marioluigi1983 "all Disney would need to do is completely change everything as you got an complete rip-off of this game turned into an movie."

  • @Jukalaboo Whenever that may be true about Disney copying Prince of Persia or they didn't had an idea they were doing so, it doesn't matter now. The "Prince of Persia" movie is reading as a live-action Aladdin by some people however. And Disney already has a live-action sword-fighting prince - Prince Caspian. And now Disney has two live-action, sword-fighting princes

  • @Serdikhan 2 sword-fighting princes... and too many talking animals to count.

  • @Jukalaboo Blah, blah, blah. Disney just did everyone a favour

  • @Jukalaboo the Jaffar character is much, much older than that: see The Thief of Bagdad.

  • This is one of my favourite games, EVER. The SNES version is sooo cool.

  • 1) While fighting: Hit block hit block hit block hit block hit block...keep doing it until one of you gets hit...then keep doing it until one of you dies.

    2) Not all potions give you health.

    3) Be afraid at anything that is strange(Mirrors, sparkly things and skeletons)

  • why? what are the sparkly things?

    what do they do?

  • They're in level 18. They're dark magic that consumes you if you go near them.

  • When I was just a kid the music from the first three levels, and the one that plays during Skeleton fights in particular, used to Freak The Living Shit out of me!!!

  • master

  • I had this game and could never beat it. It's a VERY difficult game. I think i got to like level 6 maybe? I know every 3 levels it changes. Talk about a hard game wow

  • Actually once you get the hang of the controls and the timing of your battles it is a fairly simple game design and not too difficult until you get to the later stages.

When I was little, I completed the game without ever using the parry sword technique. I always timed every strike carefully and after a while I could also swing myself around like this player.

The hardest part of the game was, I think, on the moving floor part at the end of the first level in the "green" part of the palace.

  • "When I was little, I completed the game without ever using the parry sword technique. I always timed every strike carefully and after a while I could also swing myself around like this player."

    Me too!

"The hardest part of the game was, I think, on the moving floor part at the end of the first level in the "green" part of the palace."

I don't know what you mean, I thought the hardest part of the game was Jafar. One mistake and you die.

  • Jafar was a challenge, but if you could time his movements right you could beat him without even engaging in "sword fights" at all. I was talking about the rolling conveyor belt at the end of Level 13 where you have to fight someone, and one mistake could lead to decapitation by giljoutine, by sword or by spear tips. That part was a real heavy duty pain!

  • Oh yeah, that part. I didn't find it hard. The guillotine seemed to clap very slowly so if I got pushed into it I had plenty of time to move out of the way. But it sure proved a tense battle.

  • I thought it was a pretty fun game myself. It didn't seem to be very challenging.

  • I love the music for the first couple of stages. Anyone have an MP3 of this?

  • I love the SNES graphic, but I don't like too much it's diference from the original, anyway great vid dude, 5/5.

  • C'mon, its not THAT different.

  • New areas to levels, 8 completely new levels, new enemies, new traps, new music, new sounds, new graphics. It's the most unique POP port.

  • well I know, but I would still prefer the original levels with the same graphics and stuff

  • it IS as different as the guy says. It's huge and redone. It's a bloody awsome port. A butt load of awesome new stuff. I used to own this game i loved it. a prime example of the Super nintendos hardware capabilities.

  • It still gives you a bit of déjà vu every time you play it, though.

  • you ae a great player,

when you fooled the guardiasn whit the side trick was great

    5 stars

  • 2:10-2:13.

Giving me a heart attack over here, I thought he was gonna fall, lol.

  • wow this game looks vaguely fimiliar. i think i had this game when i was younger. maby i had the nes version.

    im geting this.

  • The music is a welcome addition to the original Prince Of Persia. Never knew the SNES had this.

  • Additionally, ShiryuGL has the Japanese intro of this posted up. Also includes a torture scene removed from the European and US versions, it seems.

If it's not too much to ask, would it be OK for you to add that particular vid to the beginning of your playlist here? I think that would really be paying homage to this game.

  • How about you upload this to Speed Demos Archive? They haven't had anybody that has successfully speedrunned PoP yet, so this could be your chance.

  • This was meant for SDA, as well as my Jurassic Park run, and a POP2 speedrun (not the vids I have on here). I also planned on an Earthworm Jim run.

BUT, my time was starting to get really tight at the time, and their quality control is quite daunting (certain framerate, resolution, etc, etc). With my really weird capture card, and only raw files that no programs I had (at the time) could properly read, it was too painful just to get a sample to them. Then the painstaking wait for approval.

  • Now that I know more about vids though and I have better editors and encoders, maybe I will submit some of my speedruns to SDA. The thing is, can I get the three qualities (low, med, high) that they want without pulling my hair out. The thing is, for high quality, they want you to determine the true framerate of the game.

Oh well, great site nonetheless. If I had the runs on tape, it would've been much easier to mail it to them. If only my capture card wasn't so weird...

  • wow man..just wow 5/5
