  • Charlie Brown! Wow! I remember that guy. Great memory. Thanks for sharing. I don't know who's worse behind a mic, Buddy Rogers or Pat Patterson.

  • 6:51 Backlund takes a phantom hit from the Riding Crop! :)

  • Funny if a wrestler was thrown out of the ring on top of Backlund.....sorry Bob start over

  • i thoght that black guy in the ring was nude .

  • The Wizard!R.I.P.

  • The way I see it, the Sarge saved Backlund from the humiliation of failing the step test in front of a national TV audience.

But seriously, that step test is no joke. Especially for a 230-lb man. I sure couldn't do that!

  • @GlorifiedTruth AT around 2:55 you can see that Captain Lou couldn't do it long, either! :)

  • @MeAndMyRC Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle are the only two pro wrestlers that have any claim to legitamacy. Lesnar is the baddest man walking the planet and he's proved it in a real competitive sport. Angle is the only Olympic gold medal winner in pro wrestling history. Brisco, Backlund, Gagne, Billy Robinson, The Iron Sheik, and even Lou Thesz himself can't make these claims.

  • @maceomaceo11 You're dreaming if you think that Verne Gagne has no claim to legitmacy. AAU chamion. Was in the Olympics but wasn't allowed to wrestle. Gagne was a teacher to most wrestlers in the 70s including Slaughter.

  • @yardlet6 Gagne ran one of the toughest wrestling camps around.

  • @yardlet6 That guy IS dreaming. The guys he listed would handle Lesnar. Angle is a great wrestler. Any of these guys in their prime would dominate nearly all of these clowns now as these guys today are all talk & no action. Legit strongmen like Bruno Sammartino that have extensive background in greco-roman/freestyle would also have dominated in their prime.

  • I met the Samoans years ago. Really cool and funny guys!

  • @MeAndMyRC

So Backlund is more of a legit wrestler than Jack Brisco or Kurt Angle? NO.

  • I cried seeing the times Buddy Rogers was alive. He created the Piper's Pit. I like Sgt. Slaughter, he was awesome in WWF/E and I loved him alot in the AWA and also GI-Joe. :D

  • lol @ 2:51. Gilbert just looked like a jerk!

  • Sgt. Slaughter was so tuff they had to kick him out of the Marines...

  • @chickenandwaffles09 You Don't have any Idea what you are talking about....I'm a 5th Generation Legacy to the United States Marine Corps. All Five Generations of my family (myself included) served in Active Combat...People don't get kicked out of the Marines because they are too tough...the Cadets are BROKEN by the Drill Instructor & if they aren't, they get thrown in the Hole which is a hell so bad the Marines in it WISH they were in that joke they call "The Hole" in Prison....

  • You obviously have no clue about Sgt. Slaughter. That was part of his schtick...That he was so tuff that they threw him out of the Marines...

  • he was a marine it wasn't a work!

  • Excellent, classic old school angle. RIP Ernie Roth!

  • Take a good look at the ref in the George Steele match. Its none other than................................Dangerous Danny Davis

  • As a kid, the Samoans used to actually scare me! They did their jobs!!!

  • Of course, Pete Sanchez was the opponent for Ric Flair's Madison Square Garden debut. Its also interesting to look at Slaughter and Steele as heels. Of course, a few years later they would become very over babyfaces.

  • Considering Wiz didn't talk, this must have been close to when he passed away.

  • @RayNDeere It was--this is about the first wwf I ever remember seeing and Wiz died just after I started watching it.

  • "HOT STUFF" !!!

    RIP Eddie... we miss you.

  • I remember seeing this when it originally aired and thinking how it looked like Backlund was getting spanked like a redheaded stepchild

  • I recall watching this... sometime in 1983.

  • Bet Patterson got a little "excited" when Sarge was whipping Backlunds' sweaty body

  • is that hot stuff eddie gilbert about to job to the samoans?

  • yep

  • "... and I don't lie!"

That spinning sound you hear is Lou Thesz.

  • What a great video! Thanks for sharing!!!

  • I saw The Iron Sheik incident. Bob was throwing the weights around with his wrists and The Sheik hit him from behind thus " injuring " his back for his loss the following week.

  • LMAO at Albano doin the step test.

  • Sarg should have cropped his butt severe!

    Bobbie Boy deserved it.

Incidently I was there when this match took place.Took place in Allentown, PA

  • Does ANYONE have the incident when The Iron Sheik worked over Backlund during the Persian Clubs Challenge? That's the only Pearl Harbor attack I haven't seen yet...the angle that led to Hulk Hogan winning the title in 1984

  • A young Danny Davis as referee here

  • Adrian you are the king! Loved it when the Sarge beat up Opie Backlund!!

  • Marks everywhere! Double entendre there.

  • this was a great angle. a classic.

  • Was the Grand Wizard very sick here?

  • He might have been. He never said much when he was with Slaughter.

  • Gotta luv the good Captain and Hot Stuff

  • It was pretty cool to see a young Eddie Gilbert!

  • and Pete Sanchez too!

  • Notice what Capt Lou is doing when the tag match intros take place. FUNNY!
