  • what kind of trucks are these?

  • @thefirefighter1005

Engine 42 is a 2005 Spartan Gladiator Crimson 1500/500 and Truck 3 is a 2002 Pierce Dash 100" Rear Mount.

  • @GRIMREAPER76IA how'd u knw tht

  • Blatantly electronic

  • Are they using real Q's or electronic Q's here?

  • I wish they still used the Ward -Lafrance engines like the one from BACKDRAFT.

  • @AlcoFan2010 Love those really wished they used those too

  • I love the Chicago Fire Department! After I saw "Backdraft" I really dug it!CFD kicks ass awesomely! I like the Los Angeles City FD and FDNY too but CFD tops my list of the top ten favorite FD's in America! Way to go, Chicago---keep on rollin'!

  • i have only seen the green lights on the chicago fire departments and no where else

  • @BigT58609 Batavia IL has them too

  • I like the pierce ladder and the crimson engine. The dept is now going with crimson ladders, they have about 3 on order

  • why green lights?

  • @habbsterr

All engine and truck companies in the department have at least one green warning light mounted on the front right of the vehicle, directly opposite a corresponding red light. Modeled off of the marker lights used on ships (where a red light is used to mark the port, of left side of the vessel, while a green light is used to mark the starboard, or right side), the system was thought up by Albert Goodrich, who became fire commissioner in 1927.

  • @GRIMREAPER76IA Green is used here to mark command units, so that was odd to me when i watched this.

Anyhow thanks for the history lesson learned something new.

  • @GRIMREAPER76IA MY DADS on the chicago fire dept its not for warning its a tradition to have a green light

  • @habbsterr

His family owned a steamship line, and he took the lighting idea from his experience there. Though not especially useful in firefighting (the marker lights' purpose in the nautical world is to help ships pass each other at night or in foggy weather) it has nonetheless stuck, and is a distinctive feature of the city's engines and trucks.

  • @habbsterr

The tradition has since been expanded to cover the lights on the front of firehouses (again with a red light on the station's left and a green one on the right), just as red and green lights are used to mark slips and passages through breakwaters for boats.

  • @GRIMREAPER76IA I saw the green light on Truck 3, but I couldn't see one on Engine 42. Is it in a different position because of the LED bar versus the rotators on the other?

  • @Ikeui there is a green light on 42, its just about 1/4 of the way into the light bar and its only a little section of it, you can really see it in this video

  • @habbsterr Also green lights symbolize rescue and ems

  • @habbsterr My dads on the chicago fire dept. He said the reason why we have the green light because its the chicago fire departments tradition to have a green light on the side of tower ladders trucks engines squads and alot of rigs in our city And those are Federal signal viewpoint lights . and its also a tradition to have the AWSOME Federal signal eq2b siren

  • @IanA223 why EQ2B, why not real Q? i mean, the real Q sounds much better!

  • The motor in truck 3 sounds sweet.

  • awesome vid and siren! Most german fire departments leave the station without using the siren because most departments can switch traffic lights in front of the station to stop traffic

  • I love these Videos, in Germany everything must be quiet.....mybe i'll get a chance to do some practice weeks in the US and drive out with these guys.....great job and nice quality.

  • @Mondenkynd thats because germany hasnt been infested

  • great vid, just visited 42's house a week and a half ago, pretty sweet

  • What is CV1?

  • Command Van 2-7-1 is CV1

  • Not diggin the Electronic Q, But Gotta love the Black over red paint.

  • *_*

  • Always been a fan of the color scheme of the Chicago FD! Cool!

  • @shrk33 i dislike blue lights on fire trucks

  • @bonzty the lights are green, just front right where the commander sits

  • @81koenig are they green BECAUSE the commander sits there or just for fun? because the commander allways sits at the right side so everybody should know his location

  • @bonzty It goes back to the 1940's when the Commissioner at the time was a sailor. Boats have red lights on the left (port) side, and green lights on the right (starboard) side, so he applied the idea to the apparatus, and the tradition has stuck ever since.

  • @JLJ061 lol, thx for answer, but what have boats/ water with fire engines/fire to do? ;-)

  • @bonzty The Commish decided to use the nautical concept on his apparatus, and has been that way ever since. It's one big reason why CFD is so popular with the firebuff community.

  • nice video hate those electronic Q's

  • Why would the engine go before the truck? This way truck gets the front and the engine supply line doesn't block access

  • shouldnt the engine be leaving befor the truck?

  • nice rigs.

  • was this by the frontera resturant? if so i was there! :)

  • na Maggianos

  • NIce video, very good picture quality.
