this has much to do with economic growth in Afghanistan. This is a HUGE sport in Afghanistan and if they can organize it correctly this could turn into a profession league therefore supporting teams and being played in stadiums just like baseball in USA. But you make a great point as well
it would just be a distraction plus it represents a soft target . the people need to find real ways to get wealth and spend wealth in useful and productive fashions. schools, roads affordable housing and jobs would save the country not sports .
50 pounds???. well, if they tell the real BUZKASHI riders in Afghanistan about the weight (50 lbs) they will laugh.
In Afghanistan they use carcass of a calf which is easily over 100 lbs.
