Great videos! Thanks so much for uploading these, they’re fab!
If you get any chance to answer a couple of questions I’d be really appreciative but if not thanks again for the vids anyway! They’re super helpful :-)
1) I can usually center fine but end up with a wide skirt of clay. I know it can be removed anda small skirt is required, but mine covers almost the entire wheel surface! What am I doing wrong?
2) How do I recenter a pot which has gone off center whilst being pulled up

I took 5 lessons and didnt manage to even make a salsa dish. I couldn't get my clay to center. After watch 2 minutes and 48 seconds of this video I sat at the wheel and made my first piece. Thanks for teaching the technique in easy to understand language.

I really hope this helped me because the throwing part of ceramics is super hard for me. I always get it like lopsided but i think i understand why now.
YOU ROCK!!! I've been trying to center for almost a year, found your video yesterday, took the tips to class last night - and did really well!!! YAYYYYY!!!! Thanks so very much - you absolutely have a new fan in Fort Worth!
you can check out" first day of class" as well I made it more recently and it goes over centering and such a little better I think... there is also "centering and posture"
By far the most effective video I have seen on centering yet, for me. I took 5lbs tonight and had it centered in to cone-ups, a first for me and I was more confident in throwing my pot because the clay was so very well centered. Thank you.
THANK-YOU!! You've explained it/demonstrated it so well!! I'm an art ed. student/ceramateer and I'm doing a lesson on centering tomorrow for a high school class. You did a great job of putting all the steps into words, after watching it I feel just a little bit more prepared;)Don't worry, I'll give you credit, maybe i'll even show this video! I will show the class this video!they just had to watch the WORST pottery video in class,so BORING...now they can see that cool people do ceramics!WHOO!
This really helps. I used a potters' wheel today for the first time (after spending months just "modeling," making freehand shapes) and it's good to hear the centering process explained by several different potters.
so i dont know if htis is a slow wheel thing or what but when im centering i dont know whats up but it dries off really qucikly do you know anything about it
Thank you SO much. I am trying to teach myself on a kickwheel and having a heck of a time centering. Your explainations about where the force comes from and goes to (from the elbow through the center of the clay) makes so much sense and helped me immensely. You rock!
Great tutorial. I've been trying different techniques for centering, with various degrees of success, but find that my arms get so tired... and my right wrist gets sore.
Thanks for this great video. It's always taken me forever to center and it's pretty hit or miss, and today I had absolutely no trouble centering by using your technique. Also tried adding water without using a sponge and that helped a lot too. Thanks!
Great video, really helped me learn to center and your explanations make good sense on why this technique works. Seems there are many different centering techniques out there but your way worked for me when others didn't. Excelent teaching skills.
Please add more videos like this one and the others. You have an excellent descriptive teaching style (works well for the blind) and an excellent physical/visual teaching that will assist others (sighted and partially blind). Excellent video; great information regarding ergonomics, which is extremely important.
man u got a sub u deserve it your great am having trouble and i a, in ceramics 2 and this is helpful
