When this video was made they've been fed NLS for 2 years (though not exclusively, I also feed them raw shrimp from the fish market, krill, and mysis shrimp). These days NLS pellets make up 85% of their diet.
But you stated the mbuna's eat all the food before your fronts get to it; it would be happier if it got a large quantity of the food. What type of mbuna's do you have and how large are they? The pellets I mentioned can still be eaten by most of them (you know how greedy they can be).
How big are the peletts? I am feeding mine cichlid formula and they are 1cm. I wanted something bigger. All my Mbuna eat all the food before my Fronts can get to it.
I think you meant to say the cichlid formula is 1mm (not 1cm). The large fish formula pellets are 3mm. Ideally, though, frontosa's shouldn't be kept with mbuna's as they can be outcompeted during feeding, and also outclassed as far as aggression goes.
I especially love the dimidiochromis compressiceps... I had a pair before and I was able to breed them... All the fry became food for the rest of my aquarium inhabitants though... WTG dude... Nice set-up, marvelous fish! :-)
Did you have frontosas or another species of striped cichlid? Frontosa's aren't very aggressive (except in some cases toward their own kind or smaller fish which they're able to eat).
i have had cuchlids for about 2 years now and i have noticed that if you feed them small to medium rosies they will not bad as aggressive as they would if you feed them flakes.... you can even try cichlid pellets
I'm not big on providing feeders. My two female venustus' each produce over 50 fry every month or so (one is usually mouthbrooding at any given time). I'm unable to rear these fry so they're the only 'live food' they get to eat.
Those compressiceps are gorgeous!

my front is very happy in his home. He is actually the most agressive in the tank.

The blue-faced one is a male nimbochromis venustus. The compressiceps are dimidiochromis compressiceps, also known as 'Malawi Eye Biters'.
