  • Does anyone have any clips of the Tarooan? This sailed from Burnie to Melbourne I think in the 60's. we went to Burnie wharf as kids to see her do her last trip. Yes I'm that old. 65 and I still remember that. Would be good to see some clips of it. Gary

  • lol this was uploaded the very first day of 2011

  • thaaaaaank you for this nice vid (thumbs up! =)) I knew both ships as Peter Pan (III, build 1986) and the former Nils Holgersson (III, 1975) from TT-Line Germany -

  • @Kaenguruhkutscher Thanks for that. The former Peter Pan sailing under the Spirit of Tasmania name, was more luxurious than the 2 replacements still running. The Former Nils Holgeresson, or Abel Tasman, as the former, ran three returns a week, the latter spent Saturday night in Devonport Tasmania. You could for the cost of a single ticket on occasions, get a return trip including Saturday night on the ship and breakfast too. Sounds too good to be true these days. They were great times.

  • brings back memories.ive been on it 5 times as a kid and was on the abel tasman a few times as a baby

  • @kylalady I have another video of the Abel Tasman posted - scenes from on board while sailing up Port Phillip Bay. We had some good times aboard also. One time when it was going to Newcastle NSW to drydock, we cruised aboard it from Devonport to there. It was a great voyage too except we had to drive back to Victoria.

  • Looks a bit windy!! Nice video

  • Really great video Graeme! Many thanks for posting.

  • @mbruce -- Glad you like it Bruce. There doesn't seem to be video of this ship on the net when on the Bass Strait run. I found a video of a return voyage on the same ship too and hope to post it when edited eventually. The high observation front facing decks at the front as on the MV Abel Tasman and the first Spirit and previous ships -- where fine views could be enjoyed and good photos taken, are unfortunately not a part of the present ships.
