He didn't eat up a lot of runway really. If you look where the touchdown zone is, which is extended because of the approach, he was only slightly long of that, and look how many tyre markings there are where he touched down. No problem for an aircraft like the BN2. The runway is way off what you would call long at 2100ft. You have to remember that about 400ft of that would be quite difficult to land on due to the hill, but the Islander is perfectly suited for this airport.
well the runway is 2100 ft long and the idea when you fly a BN2 which of course has no reverse is to touch down at the slowest speed possible ... it is sometimes better to touch long but slow than short but fast ... also sometimes you keep the airplane just above the ground to smooth the landing ...
I he came in slower and didn't hover over the runway, he wouldn't have to make a u turn at the end of the runway

Anybody know by how close they need to clear that hill in order to touch down on target?
OrangeSFO 3 years ago
There's no actual measurement to go by, it's pilot judgment, according to his speed and aircraft size etc.
But a basic rule of thumb is as close as possible without killing someone :P

wow, some of these airports are in risky places. Loved watching this landing though.
