@chipgowest But there's nothing to enjoy here, unless you've been brainwashed by the rich art collectors and their fawning dealers. As Duchamp would say: 'Dumb as a painter."
I'm back, one year later, still intrigued by Koons but always kind of let down. How can he not even be tempted to just get up that ladder and apply the paint himself?
I stand by what I said in that he "directs" great art, he doesn't make it but can we at least see some credits on these things in galleries for the people that actually blew out the steel, painted the paintings, sculpted the flowers and ceramics and so on and so on?
I kind of love these curators using their souls as rags to polish turds. Did it myself for a good many years, though never quite to the level of proclaiming the transcendence of Jeff Koons.
Sorry, Jeff Koons sucks big dicks. I could go into a full-fledged post-consumer, postmodern critique but I won't. I'll stand by my first comment: "Jeff Koons sucks big dicks." No spirituality or depth here. Just money.
@IzzyIsou "no depth" go on mate, give us your full-fledged postmodern critique. forget about the money, what fools are willing to pay for this has nothing to do with what we realy think of it, or if its any good. money is just a sideshow, i dont think koons integral charecter and interests have been swayed of fulsified during his obtaining of wealth, infact quite the opposite, he seems as dedicated and real as ever.
When I look at stuff like this, it breaks my heart, i don´t feel hate, or anything towards Jeff Koons. But I don´t understand this kind of art at all ! ... And my GOD, did I tried ! I only feel sadness towards all the great painters sculptors and all the great artist, being pushed aside by objects like " The sacred heart " .... and I can clearly see where this world is heading
Also from York, we hung out a few times as teenagers, then later with him and his girlfriend. I last talked to Jeff in the late eighties. For years I heard the name, and the fantastic prices his pieces brought. I never associated the artist as my old acquaintance because I never remember art as the topic of any conversation. I had no idea he had such a talent. I started looking at his work when I found out who he was. I don't know much about art, but i know what I like. He is amazing.
I believe that there are better artists than Jeff Koons in Europe! So why is he so famous? Because he is American!!! I think he is a great artist, but not a genius like Picasso or Matisse.
@MyRicardo1981 I think thats not reason he is famous .he is simply a genius at marketing nothing less and nothing more.Like the man that sold pet rocks and made millions he is doing the same thing. Being american in the art world means nothing anymore the idea of the new york art scene being the it thing and the only place and artist can grow is long gone.Other cities offer the same facilities and institutions to grow as an artist all across the world.
Why do we have to fall again in this trap of falling into religion. I believed arts was meant to not be defined up to the roots, and see the global outcome not spoiling it with some vulgar explanation not even down to Earth explanation... I totally agree with previous comments on the same subject. I believe human will never end to lose time trying to understand the meaning of life and so on. The best joke in this video is about the sacred heart, I cannot believe what my ear are getting...
Agreed. But the thing is that Koon's has balls. That guy in the video talking about his art is wrong. Jeff's art is not about asking questions. More than most art out there, it is to be appreciated for what it is. And much different than Warhol. Warhol was interested in pop/celebrity/death... Koons is more interested in non-pop/the everday, not the famous... (comic books, vacuums, candy hearts... not pop imagery but suburban, everyday imagery)
Ovation TV is one of the best things i've found on here.
Jeff Koons does a great job, it's just a shame to hear these tinpot art critics who are no more than money men taking a punt on their next get rich quick scheme.
Their summarised versions of what these objects represent are truly something a schoolkid could have worked out for themselves.
Thanks mr businessman for spoonfeeding us about the commercial imagery and religious implication but I think it was pretty fucking obvious!
who cares if the art makes me ask myself questions? really. why not just write a bunch of questions down and hand them to people who enter the museum. save the time of having to make an object.
if art is really transcendent, people will stop talking about what it means and just appreciate it for what it IS.

It's a team but only he is taking all the credit.
