A sharks nose is covered in small pores called ampullae of lorenzini which are electroreceptors. By placing your hand on the tip of the nose, you can put the shark in a trance like state for a few seconds. The sharks seem to like the feeling and will keep coming back. Obviously it's quite dangerous if you don't know what you are doing! But I've seen it done on a great white shark research trip I did to south Africa and it is amazing!

@subzero5297 sharks do that, their eyes are their weak spot (so if you are ever in the horribly unfortunate situation of being in the water with one, thumbs in the eyes is the best defense). It's like a protection wrap that rolls over their eyes when something is too close to them.

At 0:14 you can see the white scelera slide over the shark's eye. This protects the eye from getting damaged by thrashing prey, but it also temporarily blinds the shark.

@twinkle16ify If you look closely you can see that the shark closes it's eyes by covering them with membranes that it uses whenever it attacks something to protect itself from vision damage, there's nothing wrong with it's eyes. It can't see the man because it shuts the membranes like eyelids, that's why it just swerves back and forth. But that fish had every intention to eat him and if they were underwater that guy would be history. Just in case you were wondering lol.

Actually Great Whites dont have a nictating membrane like most other sharks. They dont have eyelids either. The 'white eyelid' you see is just the back of his eye after it rolls.
