If you are watching this in preparation for doing this training, make sure you keep your eyes open when you are being submerged. I kept mine closed the first time, lost my sense of orientation, grabbed the window frame and pull myself into the inside wall of the copter. Finally got out and was escorted to the surface by the good fellas with scuba gear
what exactly would they have realised. It wasnt their bloody fault. Theres nothing they could have done to help. Angry from Aberdeen. Think before you speak.
The last time I spoke to Warren Mitchel, (one of the dead) was when we had both been out on a job together. we came back in on the same chopper. His wife and kiddies were there to meet him at Bristows. I got a taxi home.
No matter how much HUET training you do - Theres fuck all you can do to survive when all the bones in your body break on impact.
You are without doubt one of the most stupid people to comment on the internet, as a reply to someone elses comment.
I can tell you have no clue about the offshore Oil & gas industry, and yet you are commenting because 'every one you know knew one of them' (how desperate is that statement?)
If you ever do HUET - You will shit yourself. (just you) But it does not preparer you for a real scenario that is bad.
i think that you get a much better understanding of the situation if you wear no goggles at all, or wear duct taped goggles (so you cant see anything). really amplifies the disorienting effect.
Even if you are blind folded, its all the same, there is no disorientation. The thing that does kill you is if you panic. I know this cause I just did the training three days ago with the U.S Marines.
Well, I did the training as well, else I would not have replied to this video.
I think there is definitely a disorientation effect when the thing spins around, and it can be very dangerous if you are not aware of your surroundings. Another reason why practicing blindfolded is good is to prepare for situations where there is no light (i.e. night).
Yes, panic is bad, but being disoriented and not knowing which way is out WILL lead to it.

First did something like this when I was sixteen years old. We did it at the Royal Navy's 'Fleet Air Arm' training base at Yeovleton Sommerset.
The HUET we do as offshore workers is fairly tame compared to what the Royal Navy pilots did then. (early eighties)
When they put the lights out, - It really was dark. (not just dim)

In real life ya don't have nose clips. Can we see a simulator where the roll cage drops in at a 45 degree angle at 65kmh whilst spinning 90 RPM.

Aye - That would be more realistic right enough, - Those 16 that died last week off Peterhead would have realized that too.
Tragic.

What the fuck is your problem?
Points for what?
Shut the fuck up. You know nothing. You are fairly stupid, as you missed the whole point to begin with. What's your IQ? About 42 or something??.
Fuckin points for it? Is that the way your stupid little mind interprets things?
How old are you? - Fuckin 12?

(My 3 year old could get it)

been there, done that :)
if you can hold your breath for 10 sec and stay calm, this is a real simple task. last two HUET's, without airpocket, is easiest.

cool. I'm going on a course like that soon...
I hope it's going to give me a feeling what it's really like in a helicopter-crash...
