Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
I love the haunting melody of this song and would love to sing it. Would anybody be able to give me a phonetic version? Although I was born in Wales, I am Irish on my mum's side. My grandparents were from Ballinasloe, County Galway. I now live in Australia. Although I am a classically trained singer, I also perform with voice and harp and voice at folk and Celtic festivals around Australia. I can sing in Welsh (with my dad's help in pronunciation), but would also love to sing in Irish Gaelic.
you know what I love about this song? she sings in Gaeilge Úludh so it's easier to understand for me :) I have to agree with a lot of the comments about how it's so wonderful to see so many people interested in the Irish language from other countries, but at the same time I think it makes it all the more shameful that so many people haven't even a word of Irish! Ach sin raite, tá gaeilge beo agus cruthaíonn Kate Bush sin!
I don't know whtether or not they actually speak Scottish Gaelic in Newfoundland but I know Cape Breton as a program known as the TIP (Total Immersion Plus) in which they will teach people in Scottish Gaelic from kindergarten straight through to grade 13. I kinda wish we had that here in the greater Ottawa region.
@teery59 Well it depends largely on the dialect. The 'r' is a tap/flap r like in the Spanish word 'pero' so it's short, not trilled. You will here some people pronouncing the r like in English but that's incorrect. When you say Gaelic, you can either mean Irish Gaelic, Scottish Gaelic or both. Hence why we usually call Irish Gaelic as Irish just to avoid any confusion. This song is in Irish but Scottish is quite similar. ^^
@GaeilgeSpraoi Yes I'm aware of this feature of how the r is supposed to be pronounced. I've taken Bothn Scottish and Irish variations of Gaelic For somereason in Noth America,, the term Gaelic is often used inter-changably with Gaidhlig even though it's pronounced the Irish way.
@teery59 It's great that people in other countries have an interest in the Celtic languages. We have a hard enough time in Ireland convincing people in our own country the importance and beauty of the native tongue! They speak some Scottish Gaelic in Newfoundland, isn't that right? I can sort of understand Scottish because it's close to Irish.
We must remember that 'race' doesn't exist, there is no difference whatsoever between the cultures that the different 'races' of the world produce, and that if Ireland had been populated by Somalians, for example, since the dawn of mankind, that THEY would magically have produced music like this.
Or maybe not.
All of this beauty will be destroyed by the invading third world hoardes. Are you ready to fight back yet?
I've loved Kate Bush ever since I saw her perform on Saturday Night Live in the mid-70's (?). What a voice! I've never heard this song before. Thank God for You Tube!
@jrsviewtube It's not on any of Kates albums, sadly. She recorded her version of this song in 1996, for the compilation CD 'Common Ground: The Voices Of Modern Irish Music'.
Beautiful song and nice videoclips. I am familiar very a little with Irish music, but I can already say that it is interesting and charming... Many thanks RobsiejB for posting this video and my Irish friend for sharing!

It's a big choice between this and Sinead O'Connor/Chieftains. I think this edges it because I know what Sinead's version would sound like before I heard it. KB blew the cobwebs away - totally unexpected purity and clarity. The original O'Riada and Ceoltóirí Chualann should be considered - I assume it's on a CD somewhere.
@nanarjain74 that's because you are a Celt too like us who are Irish, Scots, Welsh, Brettons, Norweigians and Danes.. its in our genes.... that music that rhythm just is in our soul, Slainte
@nanarjain74 Celtic isn't a language, it's a language family like Germanic or Slavonic, the language is Irish Gaelic or simply Irish, as opposed to Scottish Gaelic, Welsh, Breton, Cornish and Manx. ^^
Ohh Kate. My favorite Irish coleen. You always knew your Irish roots. I lost my Irirsh mother, the same year as you did 93.....she died from cancer..age 52
Just listen to the great Sean O'Se singing this. This is alright but the pronunciation is rather odd and the emotion that O'Se brings to it just is not there.Check it out on the "O'Riada sa Gaiety" album.
I just love this. The melody is sooo gorgeous. Kate Bush is so magical and she's always been my favorite female artist, but what really pushes over the top is this beautiful language that can say things that touch my heart though I haven't a clue what it means.

Yes we do, it is like the welsh word sais, a corruption of Saxon and meant as a derogatory term for English. Whenever I hear it used I feel justified in calling the scots sweaties, the irish paddies, and the welsh sheepshaggers.
why can't english people get their mouths around the "nya" sound?? they sure as hell can when they go to spain and its "manana manana manana"!! having said that though, she does a solid job here, i've never heard a sasanach singing in irish before, fair play to her

Irish gaelic is my second language ! Kate Bush sings it better than most Irish singers, well maybe even though she's a Kent girl her Mam is Irish !
This track can also be found on cd " Éist " ( songs in their native language) tortv 105 cd Dara Records, Great Ship St. Dublin 8.
Have a look on youtube for Sting singing " Mo Ghile Mear " see what you think also !
