Never got into this game. Still don't like it. The game is hard mode and hard mode requires an insane amount of luck. The first 2 games are more skill fueled. Doesn't matter how good you are you will still randomly die sometimes by crap that is impossible to get around or defeat.
@Luigi84289 brother, sadly ,i dont have a digital camera or any means of recording myself playing this game on the hardest level, and therefore can't prove my point, but i'm sure if you search u tube ,you'll come across some video of some person finishing this game on hard.i do it ,every single time i play it ,with one player for that matter.
Hell yes it is. And it is especially hard when playing it on a laptop. It slides everywhere (on your lap), and you keep losing 'cos of this. And this is why I'm thinking of getting a USB SNES controller. :)
@aidanrayner999 you can find an snes for $20 and the game for $10. and usb snes controller is great for games that you can't find, but nothing compares with the real deal
great review for a sweet game, i miss when games had addicting gameplay and music that you found yourself humming to when you where at school. now, it seems like they try to compensate for it by beefing up the graphics and telling you its a blockbuster cinimatic with 3D! haha i don't remember buying a ticket.
First stage in contra 3 makes me think of stage 1 in Sin & Punishment 2, which also had a really wicked and awesome first stage (not counting the intro/tutorial stage, obvioualy :P )
Anyway, great review, Kevin. Contra III is a really kickass game :)
This is one of the very few games where everything comes together to form a near perfect experience. I have finished this game countless times, and I still come back to it from time to time. A true classic that stands the test of time.
This was developed by development gods Treasure, who would later go on and work on such classics as Gunstar Heroes, Radiant Silvergun & Silhouette Mirage.
@CHAOSin8bits i agree, the japanese contra 3 is waaaaaaaay better then the us version because you can beat it without going batshit crazy, but hard corps and contra nes are still the best in the series :P
@CHAOSin8bits That's boring. After several hours of training I managed to make it to the fifth level without losing a live and to the last level without using a single continue.
@retrokidd420 it's just an opinion. i prefer contra hard corps and you prefer contra 3. that's fine by me :P i wasn't trying to change anione's mind, i just wanted to tell my opinion. contra 3 has better bosses and it's longer, but i had more fun playing contra hard corps and that's ultimately what makes a game good imo. and on top of that, it has a freaking cyborg werewolf :D
@mkocja5a Bigger doesn't mean better always. Sure, CHC has extra characters, weapons, and levels. But Contra III has that contra feel and charm. It feels like a Konami game. Whereas CHC feels like a Contra Knock off, rather than a sequel.
I was able to download this game via Wii Shop Channel, and I'll have to admit, it is the best game in the Contra series to play. :)

@ikheugbizi Hard Corps (Genesis/Megadrive) > CIII. 1,2,HC, and IV are the only Contras worth playing. And the Gameboy one that one wasn't bad.

@aidanrayner999 the only american Contra game that uses the Konami code is unfortunately just the original Contra on the NES
