  • I was able to download this game via Wii Shop Channel, and I'll have to admit, it is the best game in the Contra series to play. :)

  • man I need to buy this again. I havent played it in like 15 years. I'm sure it'd kick my ass nowadays

  • "Contra 3 Alien wars, Yeah!"

Did he just take a cue from SirRonLionHeart?

  • Great review and gameplay video

  • I got it on the virtual console and i cnat get past THE FUCKING FIRST LEVEL!?!?!? ARGGGGGEIUFGUERUFGUTRGRWGUFRGUFREG

  • @nikkicocoa7

Really I'm stuck at Level 4, but don't get me wrong I know how you feel it is difficult as well you know

  • I used to own this badass game back in the day

  • Never got into this game. Still don't like it. The game is hard mode and hard mode requires an insane amount of luck. The first 2 games are more skill fueled. Doesn't matter how good you are you will still randomly die sometimes by crap that is impossible to get around or defeat.

  • @Luigi84289 brother, sadly ,i dont have a digital camera or any means of recording myself playing this game on the hardest level, and therefore can't prove my point, but i'm sure if you search u tube ,you'll come across some video of some person finishing this game on hard.i do it ,every single time i play it ,with one player for that matter.

  • I play it on hard no matter what it's CONTRA!!!!!!

  • Did someone say.. karnage?

  • Does the Konami Code still work?

'Cos for the life of me, I can't get it to work. :|

  • @aidanrayner999 the only american Contra game that uses the Konami code is unfortunately just the original Contra on the NES

  • @thevideogamenerd100

    Awww... :(

  • @aidanrayner999 i know, it sucks, especially since that the NES Contra is easier than the sequels :/

  • @thevideogamenerd100

I know. You would think that the Konami Code would work on every Konami game.

    Ah well.

(oh, trying to play contra 3 with a keyboard is not easy.)

  • @aidanrayner999 lol that does sound hard

  • @thevideogamenerd100

Hell yes it is. And it is especially hard when playing it on a laptop. It slides everywhere (on your lap), and you keep losing 'cos of this. And this is why I'm thinking of getting a USB SNES controller. :)

  • @aidanrayner999 you can find an snes for $20 and the game for $10. and usb snes controller is great for games that you can't find, but nothing compares with the real deal

  • @deraickripper

    Hmmm... £18 eh? What a deal! :D

But, meh, I might still get the USB controller. I already have too many consoles! XD

  • "Hey kid dont get dead"

  • kevin had a lame intro, i was bored, rest of review was good

  • Hard game, drove me insane! Honestly I was never a Contra person.

  • Excellent review!

  • More of this type on CGR. None of that other BS we seem to be getting lately.

  • The japanese version of this works with the KONAMI CODE for mor elives.

  • this is called super probotector in the uk.

  • 3:38 FLAMING TESTICLES?!

  • @MegaMonkeyExtreme If your testicles look like a heart, go see a doctor.

  • I remember when this released back in in the day, pure awesomeness.

  • wow. when I eventually delve into the library of SNES, this will be a priority title. thank you CGR

  • SNES THE BEST

  • Mark would love this game. It's great and it has a flamethrower.

  • this is the game.

  • 1:04

    "Over the top action"

I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE

  • There are few things better then firing a flamethrower, and one of those is being able to fire two flanethrowers

  • looks like a great game

  • pure magic.

  • @arizonacardinals2007

Thats why my little league coach used to say whenever he pulled down my pants.

  • @Broyale26 Jesus man. tmi bro. lol

  • @arizonacardinals2007

This is not tmi, this is catharsis.

20 years later, I still miss his touch.

  • @Broyale26 tell your psych, not a video game review channel watcher. just saying you may need a more qualified outlet, bro.

  • It has flamethrowers.

  • @LAtrailers Yes Mark would be proud to review this game!

  • you're one ugly motherfucker

  • Have you ever peed and it shot out like the spreadshot and it gets all over your tiolet?

  • Contra 3 and Castlevania 4 totally blew me away at the time. And hey, they still look pretty good.

  • hard corps is better

  • do contra hard corps

  • I bought this game n 2000 when Toys'R'US was still stocking 16-bit games-which was the majesco re-release.

  • real men use double lasers only and don't die once

  • haha, I love kevin's enthusiasm... even if he is a bit monotone :p

  • Ohhh yes, the 16-bit era.

Good old times dude... good old times..

  • I wonder if any 2d game have gone to an awful 3d game once!

  • @pippo17173 Sonic?

  • These games are like 80's action movie: the game. Gotta love it

  • great review for a sweet game, i miss when games had addicting gameplay and music that you found yourself humming to when you where at school. now, it seems like they try to compensate for it by beefing up the graphics and telling you its a blockbuster cinimatic with 3D! haha i don't remember buying a ticket.

  • i remember this 1 back in the day. use d2 love playing this on 2player with my friend but could never make it past 2nd level

  • First stage in contra 3 makes me think of stage 1 in Sin & Punishment 2, which also had a really wicked and awesome first stage (not counting the intro/tutorial stage, obvioualy :P )

Anyway, great review, Kevin. Contra III is a really kickass game :)

  • level 6 is awesome. The best level in the game and bought back all the old bosses in one battle.

  • Comment removed

  • Metal slug series can beat the Contra series anytime.

  • NOW YOU'RE PLAYING WITH POWER!

  • This is one of the very few games where everything comes together to form a near perfect experience. I have finished this game countless times, and I still come back to it from time to time. A true classic that stands the test of time.

  • jjjjjjj

  • I got a Super "C"izure at 3:43.

  • Eh, always preferred Contra: Hard Corps to Alien Wars myself. Alien Wars had some great moments but was less consistent.

  • after close to 20 years, this game still has a lot of replay value and makes fsp's look like a waste.

  • that spinning level cost me 2 controlers...on acount of ANGERRRR...lol

  • I prefer Probotector.. show us some!

  • This was developed by development gods Treasure, who would later go on and work on such classics as Gunstar Heroes, Radiant Silvergun & Silhouette Mirage.

  • CONTRA III: ALIEN WARS YEAH!!!!

  • One my favourite games of all time. It's special because unlike a lot of other games, the bosses are actually fun to fight.

  • i have this on nintendo gameboy, but oh man this looks way cooler lol

  • hard corps is better. and that says alot cos i'm a nintendo fan.

  • @mkocja5a the japanese version was better because it evened out the difficulty by letting you have 3-hit deaths and infinate continues.

  • @CHAOSin8bits i agree, the japanese contra 3 is waaaaaaaay better then the us version because you can beat it without going batshit crazy, but hard corps and contra nes are still the best in the series :P

  • @CHAOSin8bits4 credits is more than enough to beat this game. The Japanese version is too lenient....not required.

  • @CHAOSin8bits

    Seriously? That´s awesome

  • @CHAOSin8bits That's boring. After several hours of training I managed to make it to the fifth level without losing a live and to the last level without using a single continue.

  • @CHAOSin8bits then it wouldn't be contra

  • @CHAOSin8bits

Sounds like the Japanese version is for babbies.

  • @mkocja5a No way. Hard corps is good but not better.

  • @retrokidd420 it's just an opinion. i prefer contra hard corps and you prefer contra 3. that's fine by me :P i wasn't trying to change anione's mind, i just wanted to tell my opinion. contra 3 has better bosses and it's longer, but i had more fun playing contra hard corps and that's ultimately what makes a game good imo. and on top of that, it has a freaking cyborg werewolf :D

  • @mkocja5a Bigger doesn't mean better always. Sure, CHC has extra characters, weapons, and levels. But Contra III has that contra feel and charm. It feels like a Konami game. Whereas CHC feels like a Contra Knock off, rather than a sequel.

  • @123doomdoom that's all true, but i just felt contra hard corps was more fun.

  • @mkocja5a Ja, you're not the only one.

  • The gameboy version is good to.

  • 16 bit of pure awesomeness

  • @0MrFusion0 that's pussy shit.

  • @yukmust mmmm pussy :)

  • To win the alien war, you got be Chuck Norris.

  • I absolutely love this game! Except for the top-down levels. The perspective makes it very difficult to control.

  • wow, i played this game for years and never knew about the homing missiles trick

  • @2:43 RAD SPENSER

  • @Caasimac for the sake of poor @sdfdogjedi100 I adjust my comment to... drool

  • @Caasimac nice hidden first comment

  • the best in the series

  • @Caasimac kool

  • @Caasimac school

  • @mrmusito fuck school
