Hiya, I am coming over to your lovely country in November. Where do you recommend me going..as I would like to try out my accent Haha. I am thinking Winsoncin for some random reason!!! Cheerio for now
I have mates (friends) in the states and they some times have to think what im sayin with slang words and vice versa some of the they use ....but if you get stuck look for urban dictionary on Google it will help you out alot
Im from England, seriously I dunno what you people find so cute about our accents:') I dont really find american accents that funny but thats just me other people might...Im not sure!! :D Hope this helps! And what you call chips, the things in the packet, we call them crisps :P Just thought I would let you know that :) x
posh comes from the phrase - port out, starboard home. Because when travelling to Africa in the 19th and 20th centuries, the rich/fancy people would be able to purchase rooms on the side facing Africa (and the better views). Hence, they were on the port side (left) going out and starboard (right) coming back.
hope I educated at least one person... but I doubt anyone cares :s
Hey. Just thought you should know that I think you look really cute! Also that British does indeed mean English but also Scottish, Welsh, and Northern Irish accents too. I'm from Scotland and would like to know what you think of "our", British accents? :P
Hahaha, mate is a perfectly socially acceptable way to address someone over here. Give me a tinkle does mean come and see me, oh and thanks for the warning about using it over there. If you want a warning from me in return then don't go round saying "hit me up" when you're in the UK. Over here we call the dried ones crisps.
Different places in England use different slang but there's quite a few that the whole country use, like 'mate' and 'snog' we all use those. I'm from the north and there's terms used here that you wouldn't get down south, such as 'now then' meaning hello (not sure why) 'mint' meaning awesome and we say 'proper' before everything that's like our version of totally, i.e. 'I'm proper starving'. Anyway yeah do an American slang one you're cute as hell (oh yeah we say give me a bell not a tinkle) lol
Americans don't use the word posh!? Haha thats used everyday here in England. It's like, e.g. The royal family are very correct with everything they do, meaning they're posh.. And a stereotypical family from east London are rough, they swear a lot and tend to do drugs and drink a lot of alcohol.
And SNOGGING!!! You guys don't know what that means!! Haha it's when you kiss someone with tongues.. Not hit ;) haha. What do you yanks call it when you kiss with tongues!!
@KrissyandKrisia it is if you dont know our other slang for teabag. hell yea! without the slang, please please PLEASE dont leave the bag in the cup. unless you work in a hotel, leave them puppys in. otherwise, take them out :)
@KrissyandKrisia Snogging= French kissing, tinkle= yes means give me a call, ragging= to tease you really, posh (cannot believe you have never heard of this)= upper class, chips= french fries :L and we call what you call potato chips crisps, mate= is a way of calling someone a friend or just a general greeting eg 'hey mate'. Anything else you need help with? :L
You've never heard the word posh before... I actually feel like a world away now, in English it means rich, stuck up but not really meant as an insult :)
a tinkle is a call and sometimes a rag is a cloth or a fag (ciggaret) but it could also be sex. posh means kinda like upper class so like not getting your nails dirty and just being a real girle girl really and in england we say chips for fries and then crisps for chips like in patato chips if you know what i mean! mates kinda like saying hey! but just in a slang kinda way! our other slang is like blimey and the word blimeys is to say wow that expensive or it something that your like woah !
i think you should do an american slang one because some of the things you say are confusing bu i kinda get the jist of what you're sayin and posh people are basically upper class people like the queen and stuff and why do you call trousers, pants
@aladar750 Yea i've been working on one actually.. i think i might film it tomorrow (: cause that's what they are called.. when you say trousers here it's like pants for an old grandpa =P
@KrissyandKrisia oh right thats good then and oh right that explains alot by the way i think you are totally hot and in australia when they say mate its just a friendly greeting and also posh people are what you yanks think all us british people are and sound like but we seriously dont
now youy leaving teabag in mug is too me considered posh aha maybe because im common but i never heard any1 say give me a tinkle before - i say yeah give me a bell - lool wanted too rag you out - i.e fuck you :) what other words you stuck with an yeah american slang would be great see what u lot say oh btw you speak our language but like the auzzies and canadians you fucked around with it for example sem i final its semi lool
snogging means kissing or what you would call making out, but i love that you thought it meant fighting, yeah give me a tinkle means give me a ring/call but we do use the word tinkle for....that other thing as well! im not sure what rag means, it could mean to have sex but they could have equally just been a moron! posh=well spoken and wealthy. when we say chips we mean fries, and we call potato chips crisps. mate does mean friend but it can be quite aggressive if said in a cockney accent
snogging= kissing making out tinkle= give us a call posh= well off, wealthy, fashionable, buy loads of designer clothes chips= fries potato chips= crisps mate= freinds or close freinds/ sole mate= freinds for life/ girl freind for life. just to let you know u girls look gorgeous. i was also wondering if u know any nice places to visit in america, i always go to florida when i go on holiday there.
It's really weird I came across this video today, I didn't search for anything to do with accents, I've also seen your previous video about english accents, and thank you ;) haha
in england we say fag for cigarette so when we say smoking a fag... well yeah we dont mean it in that way ;)
