the reasons maradona was able to score such a great goal - and it is really a world class goal. is that he was a great palyer and could do these things with ease but also the match against england was played at a high alttitude and very hot conditions which the english players werent used to playing at thats why it was so easy to play past them they didnt have the energy to get back and defend properly in numbers

Actually I'm 52 and have been watching soccer for most of my life. watching Maradona and Messi doesn't require one to be a rocket scientist. Maradona was good but I think Messi is better. Thatcher the most) helped Pinochet when he was going to be sent to Spain for trial. Britain would have won anyway (unless something odd happened) but it would have been a harder conflict.

@MSMRU - yes, it is overrated, he basically runs in a straight line, isn't tackled at all by two outfield players. He then does well to get his shot in as he is finally tackled for the first time. That's what actually happened, after he cheated. And it was 'recreated' a couple of world cups later by an African player who ran just as far and actually beat several defenders in the process.

@prescient8 not really. when he receives the ball he turns brilliantly escaping two defenders. the next tackle is weak, sure, but the tackle that follows is evaded by a quick cut and you can see the defender reach out his hand to try to pull maradona back. they are two different goals...maradona is one of the greatest players of all time playing one of the greatest footballing nations. i'll give him the win on this one
