  • That was a song from when Kai Ekhardrt,Trilok Gurtu and John Mclaughlin was the bass player.Amazing show at The World Theatre in Nov.1990.The passion stays the same.

  • I always thought he was the Best Electric Guitarist in the World but it sounds like he's also one of the best acoustic guitarists ......

  • Can anybody tell me what live album this is? I haven't listened to the later Laughlin/Gurtu stuff they did in the 90s, but this makes me curious!

  • Who plays like this? Damn...

  • @funkifyyourlife Tommy Emmanuel

  • @Floddor Tommy's great, but he's not in the same solar system as McLaughlin.

  • Lots of fond memories of this trio at club Bene in NJ. Thx

  • yes, he sounds like ralphie armstrong

  • someone please tell me how this composition is called

  • @SOIBand Que Alegria

  • @HermerTV Thank you

  • whats the name of this song ? thx

  • what's the best album to start with ???

  • @IMBACHABRI For John's electric stuff, check out The Inner Mounting Flame by the Mahavishnu Orchestra, or Bitches Brew by Miles Davis. For the acoustic stuff, I really dig Shakti's Natural Elements. I'm not really into his standards albums or the guitar trio stuff personally.

  • @NJlo Dude, for how subtle he can be, check out the masterpiece tour de force of "In a Silent Way." Some of the biggest shredders in jazz, tony williams, John Mclaughlin, Chick Corea, just underplaying the F*CK out of a chill but intense jam.Hell, Tony Williams playing on one high hat the ENTIRE song, and McLaughlin's just strummin chords and being soo laid back. Kind of amazing for all the space. Anyways, people disregard that album, but IMO its so subtle people just dont get it.

  • @IMBACHABRI Extropilation. Before Inner Mounting Flame. Outstanding

  • @IMBACHABRI start with anything, you cant be wrong. i havent found one yed, that ive not been delighted with, try visons of emerald beyond, any shakti(or remember shakti) and try trio albums too, from eighties and nineties, you cant miss, guitar trio, electric dreams, realy, you shall be out of words with anything hes worked on

  • This is awesome; don't see why you have to disable the ratings.

  • extra!!!!

  • Check out Trilok Gurtu's (the percussionist here) cd "Kathak". One of my favorites.

  • john mc and allan holdsworth/the best!

  • My favorite...

  • soooooooooooooo beautiful.

  • John is the most virtuosic guitar player in the world!!

  • that is one hell of a bassist

  • @trauma15 what style is he using for playing the scales? cause that's not fingerpicking nor playing with a pick, what a rare style, sounds very good!

  • @trauma15 I don't like him very much

  • @keo774 die troll die!

  • I LIKE HIS SOUND !

I regret the day I was at 1 meter from John MCL and I was so surprised and impressed I couldn't speak to him. What a lucky guy I was :-(

  • I understand you. I´ve been with John a couple of times and the first one I was so nervous that words don´t get out of my mouth. I met him, such a sweet person!. He told me to send him a cassette with my guitar playing! I couldn.t believe it! that was in 1992 with the trio. It was my best show ever (with Di Piazza). Now in 2008 I´ve been again with him and took a photo with him. I told him was my musical heroe!

  • Great story ... =) It seems to be a very nice and humble person. Have you sent a cassette to him ? Give me his adress, I've plenty of things to send him.

    Friendly.

  • yes we all want his adress:=)

  • you are a guitarist?

what said JM about your palying?

    a great story:))

  • where?

  • concert in spain (1992, not sure) , legends of the guitar, with Paco de Lucia, George Benson, Stanley Clarke ...

    Friendly

  • i was born then:)

  • Oh man this song is incredible!

    Anyone know the song name/album?

    Thanks!

  • The song is named "Que Alegria" from the album with the same name! Try to find it, it's so great!

  • amazing band - amazing bass work

  • awesome!

  • this is amazing. who's that on bass?

  • Dominique Di Piazza

  • you cut off the end, asshole.

  • cool nick

  • Great.

  • I'm a big fan of John because the cat can really play but his melodies leave something to be desired. He needs to find someone who can write better music for him. This however was a breath of fresh air. Not sensational but definitely packed with good melodies.

  • looks like u need to hear more of his work dude.. check out the electric dreams album, mahavishnu orchestra, shakti, remember shakti, thieves & poets album etc..

  • thanks for the post

  • That´s really fine..., thanks for posting!

  • Best Off!
