  • people didn't ask for much back then

  • Flutter--*shot*

  • id you crazy dawgs.

  • Probably the most violent EGA game ever made

Can someone please tell me a CGA game that will most definatly result in ADG putting a Violent Content Warning for in the beginning?

If there arn't graphically violent CGA games, please name some other violent EGA games (I'm not counting the other SoftDisk EGA games or Bio Menance because I had already heard about those)

  • lol, yayy.

  • @TheXand19 LOUDERRRR!!

  • How come that woman sounds the same as that man?

  • why does the tank have headbob?

  • how come Wolfenstein 3D is 'the first FPS' when both Catacomb and Hovertank by the same company predated it?

  • @TheAdam159 The first one with guns!

  • @TheAdam159 Wolfenstein 3D was the first FPS to be a big hit (Catacomb 3D and Hovertank were very small releases that didn't make much money), so most people assumed it was the very first ever.

  • it's better than "rage"

  • Look at George Lucas at 1:50? What is he doing in this game?!

  • Comment removed

  • When is it coming out and for what console?

  • Softdisk Publishing, lol.

  • NUKE THE CHILDREN!

  • Enemy tanks are the baddest thing in the game

  • OH SHI-"BOOM!"... (Tada!) Congratulations! Thats brilliant.

  • just downloaded this, recorded it with hypercam. It will be the oldest FPS game to feature on my channel. Alright!

  • From this to Battlefield 3 in only 20 years. Impressive!

  • @kattooMC sucks in a way. Sure games now have great graphics, but are destroyed by heavily scripting and shot single players, and only focus on online multiplayer.

I'll stick to these old games.

  • yay

  • YAY

  • Prett damn decent framerates!

  • and ppl say Wolfenstein 3D is the first fps

  • @gamezonic Because W3D had very nice graphics, lots of movements, the scenarios were very interesting to explore and also had variety of enemies and weapons.

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! By 2000 there gonna have realistic graphics!

  • The graphics...The colors, the movements make me dizzy..

  • I like how the rescued people go "yay!" :)

  • This is best than CoD

  • 1:37 - Did the little girl just say "PAY THE DOCTOR" with a monster-like voice?

  • The captives are all stoned, that's why they couldn't escape by themselves.

  • the mission briefings are hilarious! gotta love id software

  • these graphics are more intense than crysis .......

  • When you die it says "OH SHI-"

  • it's the first fps(first person shooter) for pc not the first 3d and a lot of people don't see this a real 3d but 2.5d or pseudo-3d because it is all a 2d calculation creating an awesome 3d effect ^_^

  • Boring game. :)

  • OH SH-

  • 1:30 thats woman totally ISN'T a woman...

  • this game looks pretty advance for its time

  • I downloaded this game off of Prodigy for like 2 bucks. Awesome.

  • I love how they managed to work a nuke into the plot of every stage. The perfect ending to a humorous video. Even ID's love of teleporters is shown in this old thing, with it appearing like a 60's Batman interstitial :V

  • do you know where i can find this game?

  • Now watch a Crysis video.

    You'll kill yourself!

  • This sure looks exciting.

  • wait a second... is this were the WTF-BOOM thing came from because when you die i heard oh shi- boom. maybe people of the internet made there own inspired from this game. just thinking in a creative way ppl. :)

  • lol I friggin' love the sound of saving the people. XD

  • Yay....

  • yaaaaaaaah!

  • Jajaja la voz cuando son salvados jajaja

  • hmm, getting rewarded $110100 to make people orgasm as you walk up to them seems like a pretty cool job.

  • lol the government are such bastards :P

  • this game was also one of the first bloody games (alongside barbarian)

  • I rather kill the hostages, lolz

  • OH, Sh**!! Bchoooooom!

  • i love the noise when you rescue someone :D

  • lol just compare this to mordern games like gta4....

o_O. still old fps games were great too ^.^

  • this is better

hovertank 3d was a fun and advanced game for the time while gta 4 brought nothing new, except for better graphics (and even those weren't all that good to be honest)

  • Yay!

  • laaAAAAAAA!!!

  • The engine also resembles doom engine

  • well, every engine is a upgrade of a existing engine unless its written completely from scratch

from this standpoint, we could say that the catacomb 3d engine is a upgrade of the hovertank 3d engine, the wolfenstein 3d engine a upgrade of the catacomb 3d engine, doom of wolf 3d, quake 2 of quake 1, quake 3 of quake 2, doom 3 of quake 3 and rage will be of doom 3

the actually 'new' engines were this (hovertank 3d) and the quake 1 engine, because hovertank 3d used ray casting and quake polygons

  • they were the pioneers of the genre. If it wasn't for them we wouldn't have FPS games like we do today.

  • I wonder how would shooters look today without them

  • i played that b4 in that time when doom 1 came out i basicly left all my old game in 1993 id software

  • First FPS ever!

  • check out midi maze, atari st

  • lol at the end "OH SHI---!!"

  • I think that first enemy showed up in the Curse of the Catacombs games. I remember blasting alot of those monsters back when is a little guy playing that game on my dads 486.

  • lol Should be called Operation Hippie Rescue. :P

  • Great game, but i was stucked on one of the last levels where gameplay is madness itself, but overall it's awesome.

  • "Yay!"

  • Yay!

Whats with George Lucas after the first lvl?

  • first of all he said ON PC, second of all the first was maze war (1973).

  • it's not real-time 3D rendering

  • but it is 3D because of the layout and level schematics.

  • YAY!

  • no duh because this is a game from the 1990's where all we had was DOS (or an old Mac) and halo 3 came out in 2007 i think where we have multi-bazillion color video cards and monitors, plus XBOX sytems and PCs...

  • Please tell me you are joking.

  • nope. Simply put, the technology we have is better than the tech they had back then.

  • So you've been into computers since DOS, probably been connected since the birth of internet and still you took my comment seriously? Come on now, I find that hard to believe.

  • well, i've been into computer only a few years; i'm only 13 HOWEVER, i read computer books, and do research on the internet, so i know lots about DOS and the fact that the technology we have is better then the one they had back when this game was made.

  • The "please tell me your joking" was at you taking his comment seriously....

A little known fact is that this is the first ever 3D game ever released, Wolf 3D has better graphics...

  • Wasn't Elite released on DOS earlier, though?

  • Wow free aim!

  • The sound effects are hilarious!!

  • FUCK YEAH!

  • download link!!!

  • can you make custom maps for this game?

  • I know how it works, I've even recreated it.

I think you vertically, ie vertical stripes.

As I referenced in my previous post, Duke Nukem 3D succesfully created six degrees of movement and full camera control, including the vertical axis.

Go play the game on DOSBox or watch some videos of it.

  • True enough, but rasterisation isn't "true" 3D either. The actual screen projection is 2D using raycasting or rasterisation.

It's just a different means to an end.

As m1omg says, raycasting creates a depth buffer, this having an albeit temporary third dimension.

Six degrees of movement is the generally accepted state of 3D. Duke Nukem 3D used raycasting and had 6.

A racing game only has 4, as does this, is that not 3D?

There can be no "true 3D" till holographic technologies advance.

  • Alpha Wings anyone???

  • but 3D doesnt matter if full or not you have depth and thats all

programming way does not change that you can move in depth

  • oh sh *boom*

  • BANG! BANG! BANG! YAAY! YAAY! YAAY!

    Irritating.

  • The up and down movement gives me motion sickness.

  • I like the 3D Catacombs game(s?) but this looks a bit more primitive than I'd been hoping for.

The intro texts are funny, though!

  • This isnt 3-D It's just a trick.

  • IT'S A TRAP!

  • 3d is everywhere when you have depth it doesnt have to have full engine

  • to thanksj

    It's 3D because the perspective.

    There's 2 kinds of 3d games:

    1. 3d in graphics.

    2. 3d in perspective.

  • i want to play this game!!!

  • where did you download that?

  • The first? Not nearly. This game was proceeded by Elite and several flight simulators.

  • Yeah, I know. That's why I wrote "probably". It doesn't matter which game you call, there's always a game which had this before :/

  • @CuteFloor No that's not true either. This was the 1st 1st person shooter and not "probably" the 1st 3dgame on PC.

  • @Mantua64 Bethesda's "Terminator" was done in 1989, and is almost a GTA game. There is a video in youtube, sadly without sounds.

  • @freeculture True story! My bad!

  • @Mantua64 nope, maze war was from the 70's.

  • @MrThembones please note that I am talking about PC, not every platform. I know maze war is from something like 1974, but not the same platform.

  • @CuteFloor It wasn't even real 3d, Alpha Waves by Infogrames, 1990, was older and had true polygonal 3d graphics

  • @RABBIDGamfan

We used to call first person shooters "3D games" back in the day. So it's clear that flight sims don't count as 3D games.

  • @HipHop1981 Well, they take place in a 3D environment.

  • This was not the first 3D game on the PC. Elite or Alpha Waves were released earlier, and Alpha Waves in particular gave a much better 3D experience in my opinion. Check the video on Google...

  • Wow, I remember reading that either this or Catacombs was the first 3D PC game! I have never seen it until now, thanks for adding this!

  • While it was one of the first first-preson shooter for PC(1991). It was preceded by Elite(1987) and others as first 3d game.

  • Excellent game. I remember playing this.
