Many people consider that rap is just a bunch of fancy beats and people talking about bullshit, and that is partly true. It's just one category of hip-hop. In fact the best hip-hop artists are renown for their lyrical meaning, wordplay, etc. Just like there's shitty rock bands who have no meaning in their music...there's rappers like that as well, but don't overgeneralize it.
